LK164 - CCM, AWM, Korea

1660 AD (5)
I kill by Yakutsk: 1 Polish MDI, and 2 crossbows. I lost 2 Cataphract vs the MDI. (32-16)
At least the third Cataphract went elite.
(IT) I lost a knight by Mountain View. (32-17)
I killed an Aztec bucket. (32-18)
A badly needed calm period arrives near MV.

Royal tournament is completed.
Free attack 5 units will be nice.

1665 AD (6)
I kill a German MDI by MV. (33-18)

I kill by Yakutsk: 1 Polish crossbow and 1 camel. (35-18)
I kill by Yakutsk: 3 Russian crossbows. I lost 1 horse and 1 Cataphract. (36-20)
I kill by Seoul: 1 Aztec pike. (36-21)
Poland must have desert in part of their territory.
I have to leave a Russian bucket alive, as I was out of attacking units. More offensive units are heading that way.
(IT) A German MDI commits suicide on MR. (37-20)
That Russian bucket by Yakutsk is dead. (38-20)
The next research project is alchemy. Once again it is 5 turns. I will have to squeeze in more academies.

Pyong will slip in a windmill. That will give us 2 turn knights.
It looks like Wonsan can get 1 turn knights with a windmill.

1670 AD (7)
I barely kill a Russian spear wandering by Kadesh. (39-20)

I kill a Persia crossbow by Seoul. (40-20)

1675 AD (8)

(IT) Poland is building East India Company. That puts them halfway through the age 2 tech tree.

1680 AD (9)
Why did we build School of Navigators? The last thing we want to do is go exploring the seas. The last thing we need is more contacts. I fortify the useless naval explorer.
(IT) Maghreb lands troops by Casablanca.

1685 AD (10)
I kill Maghreb: 1 crossbow. I lost 2 Cataphract. (42-20)
The blasted bucket is injured, but still alive.

I clean up by Yakutsk. I kill Poland: 1 winged hussar, 3 crossbows and 1 camel. (47-20)
I gained 1 worker.

[End of session 1]

Summary:
The former Israel towns need to concentrate on infrastructure. They badly need admin centers and academies. 4 turn research is desperately needed.

Mountain River is finally getting stable. Fortresses are completed, and each square has 4 pikes. The cities are switching back to heavy knight production.
The next goal is barricades followed by mines in both squares. That will finally secure that flank.

I finished this last night, but by the time I was done to late to post it.

Mountain River is finally quite. The hills are finally getting secured.

The homeland. There are several windmills built, or being built. These are cities where it looks like I can shave a turn off of unit production. Well worth delaying troops a handful of turns to get troops quicker.
Wonson is painful, as it is just short of 1-turn knights. It can easily do 1 turn pikes. Some defense need to keep building.

The western front:
Yellow circle is the annoying bucket that is still alive.

Blue circle is the next goal. You can never have enough happy resources. Russia has none to spare. If we capture that city we hurt several civs.

Green circle is the next big goal. Colossus is good for a free settler every 20 turns. You can’t have enough settlers this early.

You can see there are no troops being built in this area. The front is stable, and former Israel badly needs to get productive. 2 academies and multiple admin centers should help research.

In addition, I spent a lot of effort irrigating those cities. I see why Israel was backwards. The cities were too small. They should start growing larger and that will help.

JJ gets to place the next city.
My #1 request is not between Mountain River and Seoul. That front is finally stable again, and I don’t want a third hot zone. I am open to any spot except there.

The below is my suggested city spot. 15 tiles to claim with 2 forest, and 2 mountains for some productivity. It will probably be able to grab a forest or 2 from Samsung. The horse helps with growth (3 food before irrigation). There are a few river spots for a bit more income.
A block of workers is nearby and can shift to help that city quickly.

Multiple civs are probably south of Seoul. Please don’t explore that direction.

Unless it is a critical emergency please don’t use up any cash. Deficit funded research is desperately needed to try and close the tech gap.

A couple of things I forgot to mention:

Maghreb has spices. I hope we can find them and add yet another happy resource.

I saw an unknowns civs border near Smolensk.

pre-turn report:
That green border by Smolensk might be Poland's. The green looks about right.
Chariot in Casablanca kills annoying Bucket.
I hire about 50 scientists using some of the stored food and we will learn Alchemy in 1 turn.

This might not be a popular decision, but I raze the city. It exposes us to contacts on the other side of the mountain range

Understandable. I hate to raze cities in CCM, but it makes a lot of sense to avoid getting too many new contacts. We can relax our vigilance a bit after a few more turnsets (and once we've absorbed the Maghreb and Russian empires!).

That was horrid RNG luck.

This game has been awful for RNG.

Don't forget Poland. I want all of the west under control.
We don't know if there is anyone past Poland yet. After all, it took a long time for Poland to show up.

Notes:
  • Napata started on a Theater in my last turn. They produce a low number of shields per turn. I figure it might be better to use them to help minimum number of building prerequisites.
  • Novogord went into disorder this turn. Please check that it is employing scientists next turn.
  • A good use for the Great Leader is rushing the Castle I was building in Mountain River.
    • The Leader will get there to rush a build in 2 more turns.
    • I changed the build from Castle to Slavery which will be finished and a clean Castle build started when to Leader arrives to rush the build.
    • The Leader is not on a “go to” and is current on the road behind Jericho.
    • If you decide to use the Leader elsewhere, you should change Mountain River back to a Castle build.
  • The only source of Saltpeter, I see, is south of Samaria in the desert. (see Western Front 1735 AD map).
    • We have 2 choices:
      1. There is a flood plain on the other side of the mountain west of it were we could build a town.
      2. Build a colony on the saltpeter.
  • Smolensk is build on top of Iron.

WOW, I didn’t think the west would collapse so fast.
I was so busy dealing with Mountain River that I didn’t want to try and push much after taking care of Israel. I went pike happy during my set and was very worried about no fresh troops on the way.

The location of the saltpeter sucks. There is no way I want a colony on the other side of the mountains. Based on the mountain length I suspect at least two or three civs on the other side. That is way too much to deal with just to get saltpeter.
My vote is to delay that decision until we finish off Poland. Maybe we will get lucky and there is another saltpeter tile in a more reasonable spot.

There is still the question of the later critical resources of rubber and coal. I hope with the amount of forest and hills we have that both are available.

I like that Oran is building supply center spices. Those supply shipments help with deficit funding.

Once again the mountains are really helping our cause. I think we might be able to wait a little while on the Saltpeter but not too long. If we do build a road over the mountain for a colony, then keeping to the mountains until the Saltpeter means we can defend the Colony to block access to our road. The AI will be blocked from using our road and be less likely to send units since they cannot reach the mountain road to explore.

I forget what tech gives adventurers, but given last game, once that tech is known the mountains will not protect us against new contacts for nearby civs.

Ugg, we have that nightmare arriving soon. We probably want to start working on getting every city right across from the mountain range up to 2 pikes each.
