Going past the discussion of whether or not this is scandalous policy-making, could a kid from a poor family (think both parents earn minimum wage) go through university? As in, can they borrow the money from the state and can they pay it back once they start working or how is that organised in the UK?

yeah everyone gets loans for your full tuition fees, which you then start paying back once your earning £15,000 a year, but if they go up, you wont have to pay till you earn £21,000 a year,

you also get loans to live on which are barely enough, but people from a poorer background get more and may even get grants that they won't have to pay back

My sympathies are with the protesters. Anybody who would deny them a decent education because they can't afford it should be ashamed. Not everything in life should have a price tag on it. Unfortunately, the Right-Wing Media in The UK and possibly other countries may use the violence caused by a minority of the students to turn their brainless audiences against these poor people.

We already have to take loans... we are fighting to keep uni a viable option for those from a low income background.

I've not taken a single loan out and I'm a Junior. UK needs to get in on this grant/scholarship thang.

i dont get this argument, fees arent paid up front, and loan doesnt have to repaid till your earning £15,000 a year, £21,000 after the fees go up, and if you have a degree youve got similar earning potential, also a lot of my friends get all kinds of grants and bursaries, so their actually better off

and if people care so much about their education, why are they taking so much time off from classes, theres another day of annoying disruptiveness on tuesday, as a student the so called students movement annoy me more and more as time goes on, most of them are the kind of people who claim to be socialist but have iphones, and also no idea about economics at all

The police have formally denied cavalry charging the crowd despite widespread footage of exactly that. Doesnt seem like there was any violence to provoke the cavalry charge.
