bueno, ya he encontrado el "patch". me lo bajo y ya esta, o hace falta instalarlo? esque como ves esto de los ordenadores... soy un poco zarpas.

I've just started playing Civ3, graduating from Civ2 because I was tired of the same puny little map and the same 7 puny civs.

I have to say, I *love* El Mencey's huge map. It does get VERY difficult after you've been playing about 24 hours - takes 5 minutes between turns, and I've got a 256MB P4-1.6GHz. And I've had to make a bunch of mods to it to make it more to my taste. But to be able to say it's even better than Marla's map, is really something. I especially love playing against 20 civs.

One thing, and I wish more people would pay attention to this: pine forests on grassland. Don't use 'em! E.g.: on El Mencey's map, most of northern Ontario is drawn as pine forest on grassland. Problem with this is, all you have to do is chop down the forest, and you're left with prime agricultural land. Now, in reality, the only thing you can really grow in north Ontario is scraggly little pine trees, moss, mosquitoes, and black flies. So I'd say it's more fitting to use pine forest on TUNDRA for any northern forested area. Gives you a lot of shields, and you can add some game for food, but don't make it useable as farmland ever.

I think this would also apply to most of Siberia. Playing on that map, there are too many cities that end up being built up in the north there.

Another problem I see with huge maps - and the discussions I've read here over the past while seem to reflect it - is that you can be tempted to put too MANY strategic resources in them. After playing the game for a bit, I think it's better to only put maybe 10-20 of EACH kind of resource on the entire map (depending on how many civs you want), so there's more competition. Arabia can have 3-4 oils, but there should really only be maybe another 6 or 7 in the whole rest of the world, don't you think? If everyone and his brother has iron, coal and five out of eight luxuries, it makes those things pretty meaningless to the game, doesn't it?

Anyway - I love El Mencey's map, and despite the flaws in Civ3, the game is better than ever on his map. Just a few BIG changes that have to be made.

I've been hoping to do my own 362x362 map, with the same projection as El Mencey's (Miller?) but DELETING everything north of 75d n.lat. and everything south of about 58d s.lat. - that is, creating more space for settlement, and less wasted space for Antarctica and the far north (which in reality nobody settles). But it'll probably take a heck of a lot of work (I can create a CAD overlay, but just painting one square on a 362x362 map in the editor seems to take incredibly long for some reason).

The problem with this map is I can't find a damn Long Island, and the Hudson river is a little off.

Wales looks a little messed up.

Other then that, fabulous.

EDIT: could you put those in :D

Two question, is this map available in conquest format? tried to play the game with the patch to allow more cities than the limit. I tried on an other giga map and th epatch did not work. Is there some thing missing or is there another techinque. Love the giga maps but the limits hurt the play.

i know there is a patch that tweeks the game but it's for pwt 1.27f
for c3c no patch yet that sorts out the city limit still 512!

ive got a couple of questions, some of which might seem quite stupid,

1) after dowloading a patch, lets say one of the non-avaliable civs originally, how can you actually get it to work?
2) same thing with maps, once dowloaded, how can you enable them?
3) why is it that there are patches of originally existing civs (japan, germany, and so on)?
4) dont you finde the 362*362 (huge) map still not big enough? i still think its too small to play over 7 or 8 civs, theres just not enough place to settle!

thanks in advance,

saludos, Aupa Zaragoza y Arriba España!

originally huge maps are 160*160 so I[B\] think it´s maybe because it takes too f***ing long time to wait between the turns unless you got 2048mb rd ram and 3.8ghertz cpu.
+ one question: How do i get those picture under my nick??

I am not that rich but I have an AMD 2.0 Ghz and 512 ram. I can run 31 civs on this map smoothly, thats goes for Teturkhans map too. This is what I like, more civs bigger map. Can there be more than 31 civs? Anywho, Best map yet!

Oh yeah forgot, how many cities can be built in the regular game? or for this map?

It's always 512 cities total for all civilizations and the number is impossible to change.

i must say i REALLY like this map!

just one remark, though: there's way too much 'coast' in the middle of the oceans, it would be more realistic if all large bodies of water in between continents would consist of 'ocean' squares, regardless of its depth.

other than that, i think this is the best shaped world map ever. just like in Tet's mod i would recommend to adjust the unit ranges to make it more realistic.

What's the trick to converting the language?

I imported the map and ticked all 3 boxes, then saved and it's still in Spanish.
Could someone enlighten me as to what the heck I'm doing wrong?

You think it would be realistic, to make the Nile ans Amazon Rivers coast squares since they are the two largest rivers in the world?

To answer a late question in here... ;)

In order to use the map, you need to go to File-->Import, then import only the map.

Holy deleted, this map is bad for your health!

Anyway, I just downloaded the C3C version of the map. It'll be good for my Mongol scenario I'm making (gonna crop the map to include all of Europe, Asia, some of North Africa, and possibly parts of Greenland. BTW, why are their 2 biqs in the 362x362 version? English and Spanish?

Just a comment... You have Washington DC starting where Philly is. Washington DC is on the Patomic River. There should be iron around Philly, after all, it has the Iron Works. Washington DC should start 1 NW of that tabaco, and have some marshlands around it. Washington/Baltimore used to be a swampy place. Just ask my side yard. ;)

Louisiana, Florida, Egypt, and Sumeria should have marshland. Sumeria should also have more nearby oil, too. The Americas (and Australia?) should not have horses, either. (oh, and just hope Xen doesn't see this map. ;)) I'd also suggest giving England iron, and perhaps in Ireland, too.

I'm also stickying this map, since a lot of people look for world maps.

Isn't it a bit unfair to all the other exelent world maps, that you only sticky this one?

your maps are really good, excellent

Yes, but little by little.

Umm, yes, can be, but I do not think it to do. They have permission to modify the map.

That is the river Roanoke.
I do not have long time to make changes, but it can that do it.
I am working now in a scenario, almost is finalized.
