NOTE TO MOD: I accidentally called Santorum a Democrat, and spelled Gov. Pawlenty's name wrong. Please fix this. Thanks.

I think he shouldn't choose another strongly pro-Bush candidate since the Democratic Party is already having a field day painting McCain as running for a third Bush term. Choosing someone a militarist like Lieberman would alienate independents, and people will question his choice and commitment to his positions since they disagree on almost every issue except a hawkish foreign policy, ranging from tax cuts to the wealthy without corresponding spending cuts to affirmative action and gay marriage.

I guess Pawlenty's the best choice, since all the others are bad and there's the off chance that he'll give Minnesota to McCain.

Lieberman would be freaking awesome, especially if the GOP rejected McCain for being too centrist and went with Huckabee, forcing him to take the independent route.

Lieberman would be cool.

But its probably going to be Huckabee or Romney.

Lieberman's big on affirmative action and opposes almost every single Republican policy except foreign policy and the war.

From what I can gather:
Sec. of State Condoleezza Rice (R-Alabama)- no
Gov. Jeb Bush (R-Florida)- ha, no
Sen. Joe Lieberman (ID-Connecticut)- no
Former Sen. Rick Santorum (D-Pennsylvannia)- he switched parties did he? being out of office must really change a man! (also a no)

My typo reminds me of FOX calling Foley a Democrat. :D

Tom Ridge. McCain locks up Pennsylvania and the election while the Dems are still squabbling over Florida and superdelegates.

He's a McCain aide but I don't know if he'll accept it.

"After more than 22 consecutive years of public service, it is time to give personal and family matters a higher priority." - Ridge in 2004

Then again they all say that when they leave office, but some come out of retirement.

I doubt he could take Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and a few other cities, which is more than half out population. As they say, Pennsylvania is Philly in the East, Pitt in the West, and Alabama in between. He has a better chance, thats for sure, but the urban populations, like most places, vote democratic. It'd be interesting to see either way.
And we've been meaning to make up for Buchanan, so VP would be a start.

Who I'd want? Probably Charlie Crist or Libby Dole.

Ridge is a good choice, as would be Crist. He should also take a long look at Rob Portman (R-OH)

I agree on Ridge and Crist. I can't see the Democrats taking Florida against McCain/Crist, especially if they go ahead and alienate all of their voters by refusing to seat the state's delegates.

Lieberman wont happen. Unless Joe decides to adopt an (R) by his name.

I dont see any of the names on that list making the cut. I would say the odds are pretty high that it will be Mitt.

It won't be Romney. He adds nothing to the ticket but nice hair :p.

Assuming Obama is the Dem nominee, McCain would have to make some big mistakes to lose Florida. The high senior population is going to be more naturally drawn to a 71-year-old, white, veteran than a young, black newbie talking about changing everything, even though they might agree with some of Obamas policies more. McCain doesn't really need a Crist boost in Florida. Pennsylvania should be a much tighter race, and choosing Ridge could tip the scales.

Ron Paul, obviously.

Any person that would give the Democrats a chance to win!

Lieberman, for the simple fact that he wants another pro-war middle grounder beide him. They nominally agree on many things, but wit Lieberman, McCain will cast a wider net of voters.
