Merry Christmas OT!

It's midnight where I am. Merry Christmas to all.

It's still Christmas eve where I am, so I'll post this:

Now to be a grinch about the economics of Christmas, check this article out. It basically says most people lose money on gift giving because most people don't get things they actually want in return. All that wasted money, but at least the retailers are happy.

Buying a gift may spread holiday cheer, but it also spreads something else: Global wealth destruction.

Joel Waldfogel calls holiday gift-giving "the subversion of the usual way that economic activity works."

You can tell Waldfogel isn't from the North Pole. But believe it or not, he lives close enough. He is the Frederick R. Kappel Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota.

He is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, the official arbiter of when recessions begin and end. And he is the author of "Scroogenomics: Why You Shouldn't Buy Presents for the Holidays," published in 2009.....

As we say in Cheezland: "Meowy Catmas!"

There's a Doctor Who marathon on the Space Channel in about 3 hours, so I should get some sleep.

Yep, it shows science fiction stuff - lots of Star Trek, movies, and other SF shows I'm not sure about, since I'm just getting back into the TV habit after 3-4 years without.

The Doctor Who marathon runs from 5:30 this morning until the wee hours of Dec. 26. Since I've never seen any of the current Doctor's episodes, this will be fun!

Got a fantastic book from my Dad . "1000 songs to listen to before you die" . Published by the same people who have done "1000 books" and "1000 movies" .

Dad's an A1 gift giver . Never clothes and generally must be listened to , read or require power.

Is it Christmas today? Really?
