Monarch SG, looking for trainers and trainees

Got it, but it will probably be Sunday before I play.

As for the techs for luxuries trading, I gave Monarchy to the French and Feudalism to the Aztecs as they were the only civs missing those respective techs.

Perfect trades. :goodjob:

DBear II

0) 510: Turn lux up to 10%, as Pompeii is running equally happy and unhappy. Pompeii needs some culture, I don't like colonies hanging out there. The leet legion s of Buffalo needs to get home, but we have no ships! Our military is also weak compared to Incas. France and Azteca like us, everyone else dislikes us. We can bribe Abe to fight the Babs if we give him horses, but the Babs aren't doing anything yet.

I check the tech situation. Incas are equal, America is down invention; Maya down Mono + invention; Aztecs, Hittites, French down Mono + engineering. I decide to start researching again and go after chivalry so I can get the Templars. We certainly don't want the Incas to have it! Pompeii switched to lib. I try to send the leet legion home across Buffalo. Question: is going from a 3.3 to a 4.2 unit REALLY an upgrade? I don't think so.

1) 520: Veii builds worker, starts horse. Inca are building up near Vitcos (why didn't we get that in peace talks instead of Monarchy? We're a Republic, Monarchy isn't worth it). Move workers out of harm's way. A Babs ship has shown up near Tarentum. Neapolis is unprotected, run a legion over to guard. Fortunately the Americans don't seem to care about my legion crossing Buffalo territory.

2) 530: Abe gives us some help by kicking out our legion, he moves to Tarentum. Rome starts Sun-Tzu, will switch to Templars when we get Chivalry. Antium gets horse, starts another. Max Rome's production. Will take 50 turns for Sun-Tzu. Templar costs half as much as Sun-Tzu.

3) 540: Andahuaylas expands, builds worker, starts barracks. Bab ships sail along the west coast. American settler is seen on mountain n of St. Louis. Where is he going? There's no vacant land except far to the north, and Iron Town will soon expand into there. I check the power rankings. We are 3rd, Babs 2nd, Incas 1st. Incas have much more culture than we do. I have to turn up lux again, cities are threatening to riot.

4) 550: Despite my precautions, Viroconium and Ravenna riot. Shift worker to scientist. Rush library in Lugdunum. Aquaducts switched to coliseums. The people need happiness, and would riot upon population increase.

5) 560: Lugdunum and Lutetium starts pike, Byzantium starts horse, Bloomsburgium starts galley, Veii and Antium start temples. Babs land a spear and sword next to workers south of Rome. Send legion and horse to deal with them and they do so. We then make peace with Babs, getting 40 from them. I talk to Abe about the settler traipsing through our land, he says he'll withdraw. The Americans have caught up to us in tech. Trade with other lands has opened up, so we trade Aztecs Gems + Engineer for dyes + 2. France has incense and ivory, wants iron and horses. Huh? How did France survive and get as big as it did with no iron nor horses? We talk them into accepting just iron. Unfortunately, they have no money. This helps the happiness situation, and I can turn down lux and increase science.

6) 570: American settler heads west, looks like he's shufflin' off to Buffalo. Byzantium expands, Pompeii builds lib, starts pike. Our military advisor says we're equal to Incas.

7) 580: Iron Town builds lib, starts barracks.

8) 590: Lugdunum expands. I open an embassy with Incas to see what they're up to. Cuzco is building a cathedral. Babs have guns!

9) 600: We learn chiv, start guns. Since Babs has guns, only one other needs it for us to get it, so I turn science to 0. We have scientists, so they will be doing research. Rome switches to Templars, will get it in 20. Time to turn our horsies into knights! We send our galley s, since I want to see whats off the se peninsula.

10) 610: Veii, Pompeii, and Andahuaylas start knights. I have gathered most of the knights near Hispalis. Some workers are heading n to join Rome to help build the Templars, others are roading to connect Tarentum and Andahuaylas.

And with that, I turn it over to my successor.

I have no problem with it. Go ahead. :)

Turn 0 – 610 AD
OK, we’re not far from loosing the benefits from the GL. We would like a war w/ the Inca but are not ready for it.

Turn 1 – 620 AD
Building barracks in cities where we’re planning on building units.
Bought wines from the Maya for gems and 10gpt. We can turn entertainment down to 0% netting 8gpt.
We have an American settler wandering around our territory and we tell Abe to get him the heck outta here.

Turn 2 – 630 AD
Both the Inca and Babs have Theology and Gunpowder so we’ll be getting those next turn.

Turn 3 – 640 AD
We have a source of saltpeter.
Nothing

Turn 4 – 650 AD
Kicked the Americans out.
The Inca have fur which will one day serve us well.

Turn 5 – 660 AD
Nothing much.

Turn 6 – 670 AD
One of our volcanoes has erupted. No real damage.
Not much.
We agree to a RoP w/ France.

Turn 7 – 680 AD
Not much.

Turn 8 – 690 AD
The Inca have acquired Gunpowder and do not have saltpeter. Pity.

Turn 9 – 700 AD
We’re strong compared the Inca but I would like to hold off on the attack. Let them keep doing our research while we grow even stronger. When we go to war with them the more lopsided the better.
We trade our extra horses to the Babylonians for 29gpt and 14g. The trade route w/ them is safe if we go to war w/ the Inca.

IBT:
Syracuse flipped to the Inca on us. This will be avenged.

Turn 10 – 710 AD
Not much.
Our deal iron for lux deal w/ France is up in five turns and it appears France nay have access to a source of iron. Let’s hope not.
Gems deal w/ the Maya continues for another 11 turns.
Lux deal w/ the Aztecs also end in 5 turns.
Inca and Babs are at tech parity and as soon as they sway Educationt the GL comes to an end. I’m going to push up research on Chemistry towards a goal of getting to cavalry. If the Inca lack saltpeter then a mess of cavalry will make very sort work of their pikes.
Plains below Pisae need roads and irrigation.
Ravenna needs a duct and a courthouse.

720 AD
Not much
15 legion/15 knights, 10 pike/musket defenders.

730 AD
Not much. No deals to be had.
MM the cities for growth/production balances focusing on just filling the food box.
Any suggestions as to which city we should construct the FP? I have found that in [c3c], other the city in which the FP is built it seems to have little effect on the surrounding cities. Thoughts?

740 AD
Nothing much.
We’re strong compared to all others.
We’ve been building a mix of offensive and defensive units, infrastructure, and Knights Templar will finish in 6 turns. Although I would very much like to go to war with the Inca right now I think I need to be patient. Other then the Inca we need to take a swipe at the Americans to relieve them of their saltpeter outside of Buffalo and their silks. They’ll have to be the next target, as we have no navy to transport the forces.

Yikes! I have lost the “lines” on the diplomatic screen. This is always a warning to me that the program is about to crash. Time for a reboot.

750 AD
Maya finish Sun Tsu’s and we see a wonder cascade.
Babylon has Education. The end is near for the GL.
Pompeii needs happiness.
I’m going to bump entertainment because we have a few cities on the edge and I can’t MM Pompeii to finish it’s market and stay happy in one turn otherwise.
I would advocate razing and replacing the Incan towns because otherwise we’re just going to see them flip back.
The Inca have a number of units in the open and I’m temped to start the war now as these would be easy pickin’s

760 AD
The Inca have Education now so this is the last tech we get out of the GL.
More cascades to Knights Templar.
I built a knight in a city w/o a barracks. Sorry.
The Inca put even more units in the open.
France wants Chivalry and Theology for their two luxuries. This seems steep.
I’m going to reclaim our gems from the Aztecs and trade them a tech instead and pay for the luxes from France for a tech and gems.
We trade Joan Chivalry (it’s less expensive and she lacks horses) and gems for ivory and incense.
Well, the Aztecs wont bite on Chivalry so it seems I made the wrong choice for Joan.
Theology to the Aztecs for dyes and gold
Note: American lacks iron.
I looked into offering Theology for an alliance against the Inca but nobody’s biting.
We declare the Inca scum.
We take workers, kill swords, horsemen and two MI w/ no losses so far.
We take Arequipa and keep it due to it’s small size and low flip probability at the moment.
We loose three knights and kill but one pike in Machu Piccu.
There are alliances to be had but I don’t see the price as worth it and the risk of them aligning w/ the Inca as low/not a problem.
The bigger risk is being sealed into a 20 turn deal for war.

770 AD
We have six successful defenses w/ two elite promotions and a single loss of a knght.
Machu Picu is taken and razed. At size 12 we would have never held it.
Other battles go well, Our kill/loss ratio is good. Retreating wounded knights and setting kill zones for Incan ground-pounders.
Found an Incan musket.
Goals are going to be to unhook horses, salt and capture gems and furs.
Knight in Antium in return for slowed growth.
Switching Palmyra to a courthouse as it’s otherwise corrupt gaining no benefits from either a library or a market.
Lugdunam, our fishing village is getting a harbor at the moment and probably should go for the courthouse next.
Virconium switched to a courthouse due to the corruption.
Neapolis is a good treasury city and needs the duct for growth/increased revenue.
Cumea needs a duct for growth but we switch to knight because we need some more attackers. On second thought, research is pulled back and we’ll rush the duct and then move to knights.
No trades to be had other than giveaways.

780 AD
One knight loss to a LB, why didn’t her retreat? Was Elite. And one regular knight kill to our pike. Sword enter kill zones.
We capture Huamanga w/ an elite legion kill (no GL) and keep it due to gems.
Risk a vet musket against a LB and it pays off twice.
Beg a sword and archer to attack a pike across a river. We shall see.
No trades worth the trouble.

790 AD
Bad IBT. Three losses including the loss of Seleucia to a LB. One knight win promoting to elite.
Inca sword took the bait but it didn’t turn out well for our pike. May he RIP.
A little revenge killing.
Treb on “move-to” gets hung in the open.
WW is already at 22% in Rome. I believe we may have to cut this short.

800 AD
Treb captured. That’s it.
Treb capturing sword dispatched. Pike killed and settler taken.
Syracuse recaptured at the loss of an elite legion to a vet spear.
We can probably take a some, or all of the outlying/disconnected cities but then we’ll need peace. By the time we get MilTrad in the 20 turns will be up and we can roll over the Inca.

got it
wil play tomorow
without seeing save (no time now) log looks pretty good.
i think i will head for an all military production, adding a couple of rushed settlers, for use near the inca resources.
tech-wise im all for a max rush to MT and those beut horsies.
on turn 6 - y exactly did we take the frog's RoP deal?
im open to suggestions about FP placement, as i will probably start it soon.
Abe is our next target - especially without iron.

so plan is - keep war for 5 turns or so, before WW really kicks in, taking as much as possible. settle for peace then, kicking the dust off our books. save as much cash as possible. build a few settlers for use in incan war now. the reserves can be used later, or just added to the weaker towns. Goals VS inca are - take thier horse and salt, take lux if near.

Signed RoP w/ Joan because I sent our galley out to circumnavigate the continents and most of the coastal territory was hers. We're not going to war w/ her anytime soon so I figured no harm, no foul. Big 10 basketball! :)

We'll need some ships when we change our focus to Abe.

The Incan salt must still be somewhere in the fog and their horses are already disconnected. You might just want to pillage in the homeland and take the outlying cities over the next few turns.

There is a slight variation in corruption rates depending on where the FP is placed, but nothing significant. I find that the best way is to build it where it will be completed quickest.

That's been my experience w/ [c3c]. Once we don't need our best, non-capitol, city for knights (pronounced ka-nig-ets) against the Inca (when WW becomes an issue or the tides turn) we should just build the darn thing.

@ zakharov
just got a bit of trouble at work that will only go away friday.
mind if we switch places just this once?
if i wont get a reply (yeah or nay) ill try to play... but cant promise anything
thanx

Yeah. :)

I'll probably play tomorrow as I'm too tired to play tonight.

EDIT: Sorry guys. My turns in another SG took a lot longer than I anticipated, so I will play on Friday.

800(0)- Science increased for Chemistry in 5 turns.

IBT- Inca want peace. No!

810(1)- WW has stepped up a notch. Many towns are unhappy. Luxuries to 10% plus I hire some tax collectors.
I capture Atico and raze Vitcos.

820(2)- Tiwanaku razed.

IBT- Lux deal with Mayans ends so I extend it.
Trade with Mayans: Give wines for gems + 13gpt + 14g.

830(3)- Artaxata founded.
Ollantaytambo razed.

840(4)- zzz

IBT- Chemistry researched > Metallurgy

850(5)- I switch off research and hire 1 scientist. We need the gold to rush culture in our new border towns.

860(6)- zzz

870(7)- Aurelinorum founded.
Hippo Regius founded.
Nicopolis founded.
Our forces are stretched and WW is rife. The Incans now have knights and muskets (via trade?) so I decide to negotiate peace.
Peace with Incans: Get Nasca + Seleucia + 11g.
Luxuries are back to 0%.

IBT- France wants to continue our ROP agreement. I make them pay 4gpt + 9g for it.

880(8)/890(9)/900(10)- zzz

Notes:

Metallurgy in 8 @ 70%, 238g in treasury earning +6gpt.

17 more turns of peace with the Incans.

FP in 9 turns in Veii.

By razing the Incan cities I have lowered the flip risk in many towns.

I think it is time for some infrastructure until we get Military Tradition, then we can build cavalry and finish off the Incans. Please feel free to change build orders from units to buildings.

We’re up Chemistry and can purchase Printing press and Astronomy.
I would look to trade Chemistry for PP w/ America and Chemistry + horses for Astro w/ France.
Additionally, France will pay through the nose for either iron or horses. We could sell them iron for 48gpt + 119g.
We can also trade the remaining contacts around for any spare change.
I suggest upping the research rate towards Military Tradition for when our peace w/ the Inca runs out.
Anyone interested in short war w/ the Americans to take Buffalo and St. Louis?

What victory condition are we shoooting for?

finally can play :D
i think we are aiming at conquest/domination?
i agree about the Military Tradition goal being of highest import right now. go there ASAP.
will trade like mad.
results to be delivered directly.

and here is how it all started....

pre turn

i plan on a quick american land grab, so i start moving troops closer to Buffalo and St Louis. up SCI to 50% (will get Metallurgy in 10, netting +55gpt).
i trade Babylon - Chemistry for Astronomy, 81g & 11gpt
i trade France - Chemistry for PP, 129g & 26gpt.

1- Atico gets worker starts harbour

2- workers mostly road, some mine. knight out of Pompeii, Treb out of Hillendale

3- rome - caravel > knight. rush Lib @ Arataxata for 228g.
WE GET A PALACE EXPANSION, so i build us a nice garden.

4- ARtaxata lib > treb, Neapolis Aqua in > knight, Byzantium Aqua in but no growth. i MM for growth and start market. Ironhill harbour > musket. Nicomedia lib > treb.
maya start on copernicus.
at this stage i see that america, babylon and france have BANKING, but its still too expensive, planning on taking it from Abe.

5- Antium knight > knight, Hiasplis treb > courthouse, Aurelium rush lib (228g) > courthouse.

6- we lose our dyes. no trouble yet so i let it hang. will buy next turn or two (had i only known...)

7- lose Incese and Ivory. deal for it from france. for their whole treasury and iron. bad deal, but 2 luxes down... seemed fair.
2 HITTITES GALLEYS, after politely saying we will move, land 2 groups (2 Anc Cav near ROME, and 1 AncCav + 1MDI near Huamanga). they declare resulting in MASSIVE rioting.
i move all close-by units to defend. rome now has 1 vet knight, nothing near huamanga :( got 8 knights from the incan front rushing inland.
i get france to use that Iron we gave her against HIttites, for only 40g. what a deal :)
Rome is attacked, knight manages to kill both Ancient Cavs, going elite and redlined.

8- now its Babylons turn i guess. they declare. so i get Abe to do our fighting for 95g.
i rush a knight in Antium for 100g and get yet another PALACE EXPANSION. this time, as we are in for a long war i go "Right Wing" :D

9- we lose Huamanga. our pike there killed the MDI, but weakened the ACav. forbidden palave is in > i start copernicus (in 20).
Tarentum flips to America  we lose 1 elite legion & 1 crusader
i up SCI spending to get MT in 6 turns, @ +29gpt.

10- i rush a temple @ Selucia (dont want another flip)
and i get Huamanga back fo rthe cost of 1 elite knight. tried Leader fishing, 2 elites but no leader :(

summary
tech-wise - were up on everybody Metallurgy, down Banking (babylon, france and america)
cash-wise - 138g in the bank, +35gpt.
diplo - WE AT WAR
american alliance for 18 more turns (annoyed)
french ROP (Gracious)
see picture for maore detail
