Recently got together with some old friends and we talked a lot about Mystery Science Theater 3000. Led to a few questions which we all had varying opinions on. So curious for CFers that love MST3K (or Rifftrax or Cinematic Titanic):

Joel or Mike?

Clayton Forrester or Pearl Forrester?

Favorite episode?

Favorite host segment?

Something else to talk about on the show?

As for me:
Mike Nelson (Joel just seemed ill at ease on camera and it showed).
Clayton Forrester (because of TV's Frank)
Puma Man (still makes me laugh into tears).
Air on a Delta Knight (from Quest of the Delta Knights).
Such a wonderful show like this makes me appreciate cast members doing Rifftrax and Cinematic Titanic.

I loved this show and still get pissed about it's cancellation. Not even any reruns in nearly a decade. No doubt one of the best things on TV in the 90s.

TV's Frank was the best. For me the segment where he is all exited about seeing Squanto: A Warrior's Tale is particularly memorable and funny.

My favorite episode was the movie. Which was basically a normal episode with credits and better set design.

The Trace Beaulieu/Comedy Central host segments were funnier although there were some good ones from SciFi too.

MST3k has become my favorite show, and I have I no idea if they ever show it on TV anymore cuz I watch it all on youtube.

I'd say Mike was better, but Joel was still really funny.

Dr. Forrester over Pearl.

I can't really decide between The Final Sacrifice, The Touch of Satan, Space Mutiny, and The Thing That Couldn't Die.

I liked the invention exchanges when Joel hosted. Other than that I love Space Mutiny's host segments.

I also love to watch the shorts on youtube. My favorites are A Date with the Family, and Is This Love?.

Favorite episodes:

The Agent from H.A.R.M.

Manos: The Hand of Fate.

Danger!! Death Ray.

There's also one about "MegaWeapon" but I forget the actual title. It's like a giant super dump truck in a Mad-Max/Logan's Run future. The MST3k hosts interview him and find out he's a great guy.
EDIT: Warriors of the Lost World.

I think The Killer Shrews was ok.

I think MST3k works best with movies that are very serious despite being very bad.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 was loosely based on an old custom we had in the 1970's. That is, smoking pot late at night in someone's basement (their parents away) with the TV (real, authentic local analog VHF television) on, the volume down to zero, and us knuckleheads making up dialog. We called what we were doing "midnight movies", and later learned (in college) that potheads and drunken rednecks all over the country claimed to have invented it. But it was us.

It seemed hilarious to us at the time, but then we were admittedly wasted. I honestly don't remember everything that happened... MST3000 certainly had better writers.

Best MST3000 episode: This Island Earth.
Best gags: SpaceGhost Coast to Coast interview with Tom Servo

Joel or Mike?

Definitely Mike. Joel was ok, but he becomes more lackluster when compared to Mike. MST3K might have actually improved every year, mostly because of Mike.

Clayton Forrester or Pearl Forrester?

Clayton was perfect for the show and probably better than Pearl, but I liked Pearl's krew better than TV's Frank. I dunno, it's close.

Puma Man, Riding with Death (lol Ben Murphy), Escape from the Bronx, This Island Earth, Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, Track of the Moon Beast, and Squirm are all honorable mentions.

Favorite host segment?

I know I had one but I can't remember it! I do remember the one right after the "Case of Spring Fever" short pretty well though.

Something else to talk about on the show?

10/10 show, would watch again

The earliest episodes were the best. Here's #101:

Link to video.

I think the movie completely sucked because they based it on a great sci-fi flick instead of an awful one. What could they have possibly been thinking?

If you have a minivan and are a real fan, you have to have one of these:
