Anyway, this will probably be my last vote. I like the idea of these threads, but find the discourse to be...bad. I also have a sense it wasn't like this in the earlier threads, but perhaps I am just misremembering. In any case, I'm out.

Will be casting a vote, so don't disregard it just because you have to scroll down a bit because I actually have some thoughts to share rather than leveraging an already given opinion...

OK. I usually don't reply to these elimination threads because there's a lot I don't agree with about them. First, people should be looking at what's remaining and vote for what you think is the best one available and against the worst one available, not using your votes to leverage a choice that isn't your favorite or least, but to keep your fifth or sixth favorite choice in the runnings while voting against one that isn't your least favorite but either to help eliminate one that "doesn't belong with the rest of the field" or to sacrifice your "downvote" to be able to say, "I eliminated that one."

Second, I don't care for how some try and succeed in adding more weight to their opinions by maximizing the frequency of voting to just say the same thing and add another "point" to the "score" (or subtracting 6 instead of 3) of an option that isn't the one they favor but one they don't want to see go out. Which leads to two things...

Third, ... by having some people add another vote without giving any new reason leads to their mindless post taking a few seconds and other posts, where people actually take the time to give some insight other than thumbs up or thumbs down, need to refresh and see how many posts have been made while putting their thoughts together.

Fourth... the nature of this "can only add a vote every 24 hours and really want my fav to win as everyone's fav" leads to all these threads, no matter if they're very relevant subjects that deserve collaborative thought or silly notions that could really be disregarded, all of these threads are bound to have a high number of replies over dozens of pages. And as so many of those replies are just, "voting again for the same reasons," the quality content that people want to find are harder and harder to come across because they are proverbial needles of wisdom scattered throughout a haystack of redundant leveraging of one opinion. Also...

Fifth... I guess some people think they're a "higher status" forum member if they have threads with lots of pages of replies, or something like that. And as aforementioned, since the nature of these elimination threads will lead to a higher number of replies, these people who want "their" threads to be ones with pages and pages of replies, are going to opt for elimination threads. And there are some subjects, like which civ is the best at what style of play, or which civ has the best early game, are subjects that should be considered in elimination threads (well, if we did away with the whole upvoting and downvoting because I want my opinion to win) eventually these subjects with weight are going to be thoroughly discussed, leaving these people making elimination threads, which are bound to have lots of replies, creating threads about silly and meaningless topics like which avatar has the best abs or which natural wonder is the most fun to say.

Having said all that, I'm going to cast my vote. Well, first I'm going to review all the redundant upvotings of third and fourth choices. Then I'm going to give my vote and reasons for it. And I won't be voting again to add more leverage to my opinion.

Arabia (Üsküdara) - 17+1 =18 ah,,, the beauty of the melodic minor scale. Particularly the medieval era version. It adds more distress to the dissonance it naturally provides while in turn providing more comfort to the resolution of that dissonance. This parallels what's going on in the game at that time - there's distress over the levity of the decisions that you're making during this era, decisions which usually make the outcome inevitable in one way or the other, and as we've had time to master the game and are often successful, the resolution is usually warranted as well. Plus simply a catchy theme with accompaniment that brings it to the next level... Loved this theme snce the vanilla version came out and haven't gotten sick of it even after two expansions. I often hand-pick Arabia to be in my games simply so that this theme is in the playlist, and have even liberated an eliminated Arabia's city, well, for other reasons, but definitely considering the fringe benefit of getting the theme back into the playlist.

I never got around to saying this before it went (I never downvoted it, but I also didn't like it enough to try to save it), but I found it interesting the way several posters commented on the American theme's wonderful era progression. I think, if you listen to all the themes, there can be no doubt that the idea of the themes progressing through the era was developed with this particular piece of music in mind. Not one of the other Civ's themes' era progressions comes close to being as successful. Particularly with some of the more recently-added themes, it feels like the Industrial/Atomic versions were composed by going 'the same as before, only louder, and with MORE BRASS!'

But as I said earlier, it's one of those that I manage to completely forget when I haven't seen Hungary for a while, but when I do, it takes up residence in my brain and will not leave. That is not a good thing.

Even that does sort of represent the people of Canada, and since there are both French and English variations, I guess it's a great simultaneous connecting representation of both anglophone and francophone Canadians, in addition to both of them receiving a theme part of their own language (Crooked Stove Pipe for anglophones and Vive la Canadienne for francophones). Let's not forget that Civ V Sweden used the Swedish national theme too, and it worked just fine.

Macedon (Tino Mori) - 5-3=2 - I admit, there is the middle part of these themes, which sounds epic, serious and threatening, and fit for conquest... But only in the last two versions. Medieval nor ancient version don't make this part sound threatening nor grand. And all these four variations come with very happy and jolly music that is bouncing with energy so much that it tires me and drains my own energy when listening. And you're supposed to hear this while eclipsing the world with your great army and military genius. Mongolian or Ottoman themes invoke a feeling of powerful, militaristic, ever-expanding empires much better. Another point I'd like to make is that I have hard time telling the difference between industrial and atomic version, which is a problem many of the themes have though (but I suppose it's better than atomic theme done badly, like Georgia).

Scythia (Traditional Melody) - 25+1=26 - As of recently, I found myself listening to Scythian themes more and more often. They were possibly my favourites pre-expansion, and after the coming of both expansions, it shares the throne of themes with Mongolia and Ottoman Empire. A bit dark-sounding and mysterious, perhaps slightly melancholic, but not outright depressing like the German theme. It is not fast going, but not dragging either (a bit of a problem of Roman themes). Melody doesn't become repetitive, like Kongo. It doesn't unnecessarily bounce with energy, like Macedon or Brazil but there is sense of power in it, too. The most epic parts and powerful parts come with industrial and atomic variants, too, but unlike Macedon, it doesn't blend with any overly jolly and celebratory part. I can also say whether it's industrial or atomic theme playing right now as soon as they start playing because of the touches of piano (Is it piano? I think it's piano, but I'm not sure). The sound effects that get added to every atomic theme in some form were chosen rather well and don't ruin the sound of the theme. And when it comes to medieval theme, which I rather dislike by quite a lot of Civs, since I'm not a great fan of the sound of the string instruments from these variations, Scythia has a great one. The sound of duduk and those string instruments go together rather well, and the sound of those strings also goes well with the tone of the theme. And, as the last point, I love the sound of duduk.
