You want school spirit? Set up a still in the science lab.

Aaa... the good old days

School spirit didn't really exist in my school, given that most of the kids hate each other.

Seriously though.....everyone gets segerated into different groups and what not, you can not really portray it as school 'spirit' when all the popular kids are running everything whilst bullying all the 'geeks'/'stoners'/'goths'....

Intresting that this comes up now as yesterday was the last day of spirt week for my school. The last day is of course the best. Every year each of the grades is given a color and on the last day everyone in that grade wears that color (freshmen are always pink :D). It's rather amazing to see.

I love my school/college because...

1 - There is a minimum of outdoor time I have to walk. I just take the RTL bus to the Longueuil metro get off at Berri-UQAM, go onto the green line untill I get to Atwater. This is VERY important, with -20 C tempratures.

2 - There is big library with lots of books, and newspapers and maganizes to read. I always a book going.

3 - Most importantly, there are FOUR cafeterias, three with place you can junky food from to shove into your face.

Oh ya, there is quality of teachers, students, extracurricular activities etc.

schools have spirit? we never really had any of that, only time people would agree on anything is that people from this school called Saint Aidens ( probably spelt it wrong ) was bent, we often called it Bent Aidens because it was an all boys school

I just came back from a three-day camp-thingy with my grade and I can actually feel some school spirit in the grade, although it's more "grade spirit". We had fierce competitions between us and another school at the place and it really helped the spirit. Nothing the teachers did, either. :)

I have grade spirit, too. Gotta keep those [disdainful voice]sophmores and juniors[/disdainful voice] in their place. Stupid underclassmen. Ugh.

(Actually, I just like to make fun of the uber-seniors who think the world revolves around them).

My school recently had one of the worst school spirit ideas ever-a tsunami relief Dance-a-thon. The day before the event, only one person had turned in the permission slip, and we had to have a school assembly just to try to convince people to go. :lol: From the few who went, I heard it was terrible.

Not that I have anything against having tsunami relief fundraisers, but you would think they could come up with something better than that.:rolleyes:

my school really has a problem with school spirit. School dances, sporting events, and other things just dont seem to interest many people in my high school. We just don't participate in many school activities. Anyone here have any ideas for me to help revive school spirit?

School spirit is not worth anything once you've finished high school. So I'll say, don't panic ;)

That makes me remember how much I HATE this dreadful song, "Be true to your school", by the Beach Boys IIRC.

EDIT : Aphex Twin : :lol:

Here's an idea, screw school spirit. It is totally worthless in the long run. (this is why I don't stand during the school song and don't go to football games)

@punkbass

Yes! It's true to point out that I was having a rant as well. However, as an educator, when I read people describing schools as "breaking children" and "disgruntled and inept faculty", I feel personally insulted and, in a public forum, I have a right to reply. I apologise if that shocks or offends anyone.

Incidentally, read 'Hard Times' by Charles Dickens and tell me if you feel the school in that book can be fairly characterized as "breaking children" with "disgruntled and inept faculty". I believe it does and so I stand by my point. :)

@Perfection, why do I see so many people with anti-perfection messages on their signatures? Have I missed something?

They all envy his epenis.

@h3ppy
I see you've returned...

Allow me to keep on mis-spelling your name, it's sort of an old custom by now ;)

You have taken what I had said out of context, and of course it would sound bad in the manner. You say you were insulted, due to the fact that you are an "educator" and cleverly omit a part of my statement so that you could seem justified in feeling that way.

However, if one were to add in the missing word, the implications of my statement would change dramatically. Let us experiment with this idea.

"mostly disgruntled and inept faculty."

Amazing! Now class, do you notice how the word "mostly" changes the implications of the aforementioned statement? That is right, as opposed to how it was presented prior to the addition of that word, "mostly", it now leaves room for there to be some good "educators". Instead of the abridged statement leading one to believe that the author, myself, was implying that all public education professionals are disgruntled and inept, we now have augmented our statement to show a more accurate intent of my communication.

Apparently Boleslav is not an "educator" in the studies of the English language, but I am willing to bet that he/she would make an excellent "educator" in the field of spin and politics. ;)

Now, beyond that, I have taken notice to the fact that although you have taken insult to what I have said, you have in no way attempted to counter those things that I have said. Instead, you go on to take my words out of context and charge me with 'ranting'. You have the "right" to reply, but you are going to have to do better than that.

We have too much school spirit. I go to a private school and we are renowned in the region for being incredibly arrogant. Of course, we are state champions in basketball and soccer, formidable (unbeatable in this region, but not statewide) in every other sport, superior in theater (I just starred in Li'l Abner, it was fantastic), absolutely incomparable in academics, and a force in public speaking competitions. In one particular extra-curricular, a Mock Trial competion, my school eventually had to dissolve its team for lack of competition because in every school we used to compete against, there was no interest in forming a team because my school won every single time anyway.
