Naming scheme discussion

LP is great name for our worker. Not only he will confuse some specific players, but it pleases me to know that those turncoats in another dimension bow their back to work for our prosperity to repay their sins towards us.

:agree:

LOL @ LP the worker when I saw it... You rascals! What a great team:D!

New warrior was finished, and Indira is now building a new one. Moved the new warrior 1 from Indira which revealed our southwestern wolf friend. (We need to name the warriors now, so I need a list of names to give them in the naming thread :))

Alright guys, it's time to decide what we want to name our units. We got a great theme for the workers, now we need one for the combat units. I like the idea of CFC members, and I think that has some support in the team. Any suggestions for the names of our founding warriors?

We can name our combat units after notable CFC members (admins, mods, etc) or members of our current team.

I am all for the CFC member list. Could someone take the time to compile a list of names (both for the workers and the military units) please, and I'll use an RNG or my good sense in naming the units? :)

If we are going with notable CFC members we could start with Thunderfall, then admins, then supermods etc. I'm sure Dave could help us sort out seniority and make sure we dont miss anyone :)

Here's a list of Mods, Admin and other CFC Staff. Thunderfall sounds good for our founding Warrior. Should we group type of Mod / Admin / Staff to type of unit?

Here's the full member list, sorted by Post count, so the most active members show up in the first pages. I'm relatively new to CFC, and I spend most of my time here in this sub-forum, so not too many names look familiar to me. Maybe someone with more history than me can suggest some appropriate members, or we could just go straight with post count (plus any requests from team members).

Most of the very top of the postcount list is just OT-spammers. Near the bottom of the first page you get to the members that are vey active in the Civ Forums.

Pretty much everyone with a high post count got that in OT as far as i can tell. There are enough admins and mods to last us for quite some time if we go that way.

We can start with admins and mods, maybe switch to team CFC members after that. That way our list doesn't contain any of the players on other teams who we want to use as worker names. It looks like that would be a sufficient list to last us quite a long time. We can add further names if/when the need arises.

OK then, let's start with admins:

Thunderfall
Ainwood
Padma
Plotinus
Lefty Scaevola

Lefty would also be one we can reserve for something special, he has used a user title / signature of "Minister of Internal Security" at times. In a way he can be thought of as 2nd to TF, even though he didn't want an official admin tag.

Thanks DaveShack! That list means Warrior 1 is Thunderfall, Warrior 2 is Ainwood, and Warrior 3 who is being produced will be Padma.

Any ideas for who we could use Lefty for? Internal security makes me think a defensive or garrison unit, but that doesn't seem special enough.

:) Indira is the Sanscrit word for "splendid". Also the daughter of Mahatma Ghandi.

Sanscrit words can be good for naming our cities. We are India after all.

I like Sanskrit words as our naming scheme. Earlier I had suggested foreign (non-English) words in general with nice meanings. These are some of the names we came up with:

Terasvin - Sanskrit for "quick"
Zighra - Sanskrit for "fast "
Dvita - Sanskrit for "second"
Shanti - Sanskrit for "peace"
Parakram - Hindi for "power"
Dewachen - Tibeten for "land of bliss"
Umoya - Zulu for "wind", "breath" or "soul"
Schadenfreud - German for "taking delight in the misfortunes of others"
Svet - Russian for "light"
Glede - Norwegian for "happiness"
Vosem - Russian for 8
Vosemnadtsat' - Russian for 18
Yhdeksästoista - Finnish for 19th
Poleno - Slovak for "useless piece of wood" - talonschild's nickname from his grandmother
Kasisvet - Slovak for "world-wrecker"
Feuer Frei - German for "watch" - suggested for Heroic Epic city
Crupp - family name bound to the German steel and military industry - suggested for Ironworks city
Schnelle - German for "speed"
Flaming Galah
Nincompoop
Feckless Wonder
Muppet
Drongo
Plonker
Dunderhead
Buffoon
Wally

We could send a subtle message by naming a city on our RB border "Shanti". I'll bet at least someone from RB will bother to google what it means.
