Napoleon, the leader with the most "troll" personality of the civilization VII.

Emperor Napoleon is definitely ahead the race for most hated leader at the moment.

There's always hope that Montezuma will show up as a leader.

Not impressed. They left out Napoleon's revamping of the entire French civil administration and law code, changes that are still largely in effect over 200 years later, and his complete reorganization of Germany from the cumbersome wreck that was the Holy Roman Empire into thre States that still comprise modern Germany. Simply characterizing him as a negative militaristic 'troll' is buying in to the Monarchial propaganda aimed at him at the time, and largely because he had the temerity to be the result of an overthrow of an anointed monarch, which didn't sit well with all the other anointed monarchs still planting their aristocratic fundaments on their thrones.

If they wanted to put Sauron in the game, just do a Fantasy DLC and be done.

France could be in without a default leader, or France could have another default leader. I kind of suspect the latter more than the former.
It's not like France has a shortage of good choices, especially with the expanded leader criteria to include army commanders, religious figures, scientists, political philosophers and revolutionaries.

Half of the leaders in this game could be French and they'd still have many worthy choices left over.

A long time ago I had an idea for a Pontus civ led by Mithridates. His ability would have been able to target enemy cities with the creation of rebel partisans (inspired by the Asiatic Vespers).
.
Mirthidates would definitely be the most stylish of the leaders. him & Tigran II of Armenia as the Age of Antiquity power couple plz:

If they go for a Qajar civ in the Industrial Age I hope they pick my man Fath-Ali Shah
Spoiler Big :

Historian Joseph M. Upton says that he "is famous among Iranians for three things: his exceptionally long beard, his wasp-like waist, and his progeny."
Sadly not known for anything besides

I'm a bit confused by the "Emperor" version of Napoleon being a persona. What the heck is his "normal" skin? Or does the leader itself not have a normal version?
The alternative to Napoleon's Emperor (or Napoleon's Troll) is the Napoleon's Revolutionary (the Napoleon who dressed in red). It looks like a good combination to play with Rome if you like to play in a military way in Civilization.

"Like all leader Personas, Napoleon's Revolutionary Persona has a unique outfit and background, new gameplay bonuses, and an alternative agenda when played by the AI. Napoleon's Revolutionary Persona specializes in culture and military might, with a new Unique Ability: La Grande Armée, giving all army commanders extra movement and granting Culture each time he defeats an enemy unit." I have a much less generous view of Napoleon, which is someone who hijacked the changes of the French revolution, actively rolled back and or sandbagged a lot of them (slavery in the colonies as a premier example), replaced one form of tyrannical rule (the monarchy) with a different one (himself as dictator), and started a campaign that killed millions of people. I understand he was certainly one of the reasons the French revolution maintained some of its success, but I tend to view him in light of the initial promise of the revolution, and find he comes up very short in comparison.

Him being designed as Civ 7's most hated though makes me wonder if they aren't even including Alexander at the moment, since that's usually their role for him.

I fully expect Alexander to be in the game and to be very punchable. If he's not there on release, he'll be early DLC like in Civ6. There's plenty of room for villains in the game.

Yes I know about that, but that's an alternative skin to an alternative skin. I was wondering what the "normal" Napoleon skin is, and I guess what we're supposed to conclude is that there isn't one.

In Civ6, when Leaders gained new alternate personas, the original one was also named in a similar fashion. So the 2 personas for Napoleon are Revolutionary and Emperor. Neither is "normal" or "default".

Maybe I'm missing something but, why can't Naploeon be the default leader for France? This offer is only for the Emperor persona version of him. Doesn't that imply that there is a base version of him already in the game?

Because that would make for three versions of Napoleon and there's already two too many! But really, France has many leader options. It would be a shame if there were no non-Napoleons from France.

There's ANOTHER free persona you get by connecting your 2k account for Civ6. So there's 2 personas right there, one for connecting to Civ7 and one for Civ6. No base version in the game needed.
