Spoiler :
In 1520, the young nobleman Gustav Ericsson Vasa was escaping from the troops of Christian II, king of Denmark, Sweden and Norway (the Kalmar Union). Much of the Swedish nobility was in opposition to the king, and had nicknamed him Christian the Tyrant. In a move to silence the opposition, Christian invited the Swedish aristocracy to a reconciliation party in Stockholm, only to have them, including Gustav's parents, massacred in what came to be known as the Stockholm Bloodbath.

Vasaloppet (literally, The Vasa race) is an annual long distance (90 km) cross-country ski race (ski marathon) held on the first Sunday of March in northwestern Dalarna, Sweden between the village of Sälen and town of Mora. It is the oldest, the longest, and in popular consideration the biggest cross-country ski race in the world.[1] In the 80th race, held on 7 March 2004, some 15,500 skiers competed in the main event. More than 40,000 participated in one of the seven different races held during the first week of March.

Vasaloppet in Sweden. I suspect I'll never do it. Skiing 90km doesn't have that much appeal on me, but otoh it would be an accomplishment.. perhaps in a 40s crisis.

What do you've got that you probably should do for no other reason than it's there and people do it?

I want to go for one of those polar bear swims where you jump in freezing water.

Instead I have a "f" it list containing all the cliched stuff people profess to want to do that I'm just not touching.
For a second I thought you had an actual "'f' it"-list :)

I'd like to visit museums in countries around the globe. Smithsonian, Louvre, Tuol Sleng...I'd like to see them all.

EDIT: Oh, I see. I guess Quebec would be a good place to get some maple toffee.

Well, in Raleigh we have something called a Krispy Kreme Run. You run a mile, eat a dozen doughnuts, and run back. It's on NC State campus, so it's a nice run - or at least, it would be, if there wasn't vomit everywhere. It's a thing because Krispy Kreme is a North Carolina thing.

Of course, the Appalachian trail.

Something kinda like the OP thing is done here, too, but it's a little harder to do because you have to be a teenager on a football team. Andrew Jackson was born in either North Carolina or South Carolina in a town on the border, so every year the two respective counties that Jackson could've been born in have their HS football team play each other and whoever wins gets to say "Andrew Jackson was born in my state" for the year.

There are a lot of caves around here that I'd like to explore thoroughly. There is a cave system in Southern Illinois that contains some amphibians that only live there and nowhere else.
