NESing Guide

OTL.. what does iths mean?

Presumed it meant something like that.. wouldnt IRL make more sence?

aaah OK :)

I've read some of the first page, but it is so lengthy.

Is a NES a Civ mod or some kind of role playing game you play in your fantasy?

Role playing game meets Diplomacy and Risk.

Would anyone be annoyed if I wrote a military article?

I don\'t mean warmongering, but rather fighting the actual wars, whether you are attacking or defending. It seems to me that many players (and mods as well) don\'t have a basic understanding of military theory - Sun Tzu is all well and good, but he\'s basically useless. Clausewitz and the Fuller/Liddell Hart combo seem to be missing from the forums, and IMHO games would be a lot more fun if people actually knew how to fight a war - at least, if the bloody mods knew how. Explaining yourself whenever you want to say why a particular action is good for your military is always annoying and takes up too much time.

Please! i SUCK at battle.. think i have been completely routed every single time so far :D

Clausewitz would be good especially. Go for it Dachs.

I'm fine doing the larger-scale things. I generally don't go too indepth in my updates.

Alright, here....

Pvt. Parker was born on Sept. 1st, 1979, on 16:12:30.5235346345345 His first breath was slight, and....

Several pages later...

Parker was killed on the battlefield of Gorge, which was on Earth, which was created by God, or the big bang. The big bang is a theory...

Several thousand pages later...

And most scientists agree that cancer can be cured, going along to Alzheimer's Disease, or AD...

Several million pages later...

And the Egyptian civilization prospered. At October 4, 1300 BC, 1:1:01.......

At the apocalypse....

And the Vikings started the invasion at around........

After the apocalypse in the Netherworld

And therefore, that concludes Parker. Now on to Larry...

Joke Attempt: Failed.

Sure, why not?

I've been thinking about doing the same thing for technology since it's similarly ill-off.

Spam Attempt: Succeeded.

I though carmen was fairly funny. IRL, I'm infamous for going off in spoken trains of though in the middle of conversations.

Except my ninja editing skills are better than your retorts, and thusly, I win. In fact, even while pointing this out, I am still capable of saying something to stay on the topic; that's how awesome I am. Observe:

In addition to warfare and technology, someone really needs to write something on basic economic theory too, because random events and policies dictated by NESers, if they're used for much anything at all (ie: in a das NES I often get the feeling anything I write that doesn't have an EP value attached to it, or that doesn't have a story reflecting it, generally tends not to happen or do anything meaningful) tend more often than not to be mishandled.

For example, say, being able to achieve resource self-sufficiency in oil doesn't mean that oil is commercially exploitable. The United States has 62% of all the world's oil shale deposits. But they cost 8x as much as crude to exploit at present. A government initiative to use them would therefore wind up wasting money.

This isn't so much a problem under simple economy-tier systems except when it comes to dealing with seperate player initiatives (fiddling with tax rates, tariffs, economic apparatus in general) but under any more advanced system it becomes a concern, and if the majority of mods are ever going to use those sorts of systems or really properly implement the results of things players suggest then they need to have at least a basic grasp of economic theory.
