NESLife attempt #3

Does anyone know if animals need a specific plant eating genes to eat nuts and fruit etc? Do the trees of this world have nuts and fruit atm? You know its mutually beneficial for animals to eat fruit. The animal gets more energy then they would get from eating meat and the plant gets its seeds spread over greater distances for it. Is plant eating for fruits and nuts or just for leaves, what does complex stomach do etc?

Complex stomach has tended to be used for creatures eating from multiple scources.. deadthings/plants plants/flesh for example

@daft ya the diverfish just lays its eggs down at the volcanic vents and the larvae hatches and then does its thing until it can make it back to the surface or w/e but they don't feed on the bathys, just happens that they are living in the same area.

Once again another great update. Here my creature.

Spoiler The Old :
Mudtupler: NPC
Evolved from: Seatupler
Survival Status: Competing
Genes (25): Crawling x2, Plant Eating x2, Flesh Eating x1, Complex Stomach x2, Claws x3, Cold Resistance x1, Communal Behaviour x2, Brain Power x2, Eyes x2, Skeleton x1, Tough Skin x1, Fat Reserves x1, Digging x1, Parenting Instinct x2, Water Retention x1, Lungs x1
Description: One branch of Seatuplers became adapted for life in very shallow waters, and eventually moved into swamps and lakes near the coast. The Mudtupler has lungs, enabling it to surface and easily gain oxygen when it is in stagnant, muddy waters. It can even haul itself out onto land for short periods, though it remains a fairly slow crawler on land. With many predators in both land, air and water, it has a stronger instinct to protect its eggs and hatchlings - small groups of adults often help each other to do so. It is losing its ability to eat meat as aquatic plants like Sea Fuzz, Ground Fuzz and Algaceae Dendrocovitis make up most of its diet.

Landupler: C&civ3
Evolved from: Mudtupler
Gene added (3): Walking +2, Water Retention +1
Gene removed (optional):
Description: As time went on some of Mudtupler travel farer inland in and give rise to the new Landupler. There skin allow them survive farer from water an Mudtuple. Landupler had evolve a way move faster by walking on the surface to help escape predator's, by used their crawling abilities underground to defend themselves and their young. Will these land duplers become as great and varied as the Land Duplers of Old? Only time will tell.

Daft, FYI I've changed my Kakliea a bit. Its now this:

Ok... Ignore Irritant Zeeboo. I'm doing something new this turn.

Kakliea
Evolved from: Valios Polykalios (Woot! First animal )
Original Genes (36): Complex Stomach x3, Flesh Eating x4, Swimming x1, Vibration Sense x2, Eyes x2, Brain Power x2, Skeleton x2, Cartilage x1, Jaws x2, Fangs x1, Communal Behaviour x4, Water Retention x2, Lungs x1, Walking x3, Climbing x3, Parenting Instinct x2, Large Eggs x1
Genes Added: Live birth x1, fur x1, claws x1, complex stomach x4)
Genes removed: large eggs x1, swimming x1, communal behavior x1

The Kakliea was a small(ish) tree-climbing mammal. During this era it left the water completely, losing the ability to swim. The Kakliea lived together in famillies, each familly would be made up of around 5 to 10 related individuals, it was common for a famillies to be centred around one tree, on which they would have multiple familly nests. They would often raid nearby birds nests for eggs or baby birds alone or with a mate although generally the males of the familly went scavenging, primarilly they ate fruit and nuts from trees, insects, and small animals. The Kakliea weren't the most dangerous of animals but together they could quite easilly bring down small animals It would not have been un-common to see Kackliea packs dragging fresh corpses back to their famillies. Also, if the familly's territory was threatened in any way. They would climb agilely up the trees, where they would leap down on the intruder, fangs and claws at the ready. Males of the species were always slightly larger, with stronger leg muscles and larger teeth. Kakliea communicated with small chirping sounds.

I'm not too familiar with animal genes so I hope this is OK.

BTW, Kakliea are mammals, althoughn they evolved from amphibeans.

Quite proud of it atm, I hope it does alright ;)

Kuaryte: NPC
Evolved from: Flevryte
Survival Status: Competing
Genes (23): Crawling x2, Eating Dead Things x1, Plant Eating x3, Complex Stomach x1, Exoskeleton x1, Communal Behaviour x2, Claws x2, Water Retention x2, Lungs x2, Cold Resistance x1, Eyes x2, Climbing x1, Flying x2, Talons x1, Vibration Sense x1, Vocalization x2
Description: Flevyrtes, having struggled through the hard times of the past few eras, now had an opportunity to expand and diversify. This resulted in the Kuarytes, boisterous creatures who come together in noisy flocks. They are better fliers than their ancestors, and can make louder and more sophisticated calls to each other, to keep in contact in dense forests, and to quickly warn all the others if any predator is spotted. They are also more social, spending more time with each other and sharing food.

Evolves to...

Floryte : Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Kuaryte
Gene added (you can add 3, or 4 with bonus): Plant Eating x2, Complex Stomach, Jaws
Gene removed (optional, remove up to 3 or 4 with bonus): Eating Dead Things
Description: Faced with increasingly tough vegetation, the Floryte has been forced to improve its methods of extracting energy and nutrition from its food. It has developed its primitive mouth, located where the head meats the thorax, into jaws, to crush and grind hard leaves and plant material into easily-digestible pulp. Its optimized digestive system then extracts a far larger percentage of the potential nutrition from food.

Cool stuff :D Thanks!

Also, I'm afraid the update may be quite a few days away. Im working on my other NES right now, and am probably getting a new PC tommorrow so I'll be sorting that out too!

edit:

Does anyone know if animals need a specific plant eating genes to eat nuts and fruit etc? Do the trees of this world have nuts and fruit atm? You know its mutually beneficial for animals to eat fruit. The animal gets more energy then they would get from eating meat and the plant gets its seeds spread over greater distances for it. Is plant eating for fruits and nuts or just for leaves, what does complex stomach do etc?

There has been some cross-over between complex stomach and other digestion stuff. Complex stomach has been helping to digest things like bones and shells or tough plant matter. It has also been considered to allow limited eating of both plants and flesh etc even if there arent any 'genes' dedicated to that. So basically, yes it could eat fruit quite well with either complex stomach or plant eating, even at x1 level. Fruits should be very easy to digest. Honey and nectar are probably even easier :)

Oh about the nuts, the Zeeboos have 'protected seeds x1' which can count as nuts I suppose, though not all that strong yet. Any other seeds are either tiny or chew-able.

Spoiler :
Cavebug: RFHolloway
Evolved from Caveworm
Survival Status: Struggling
Genes (23): Digging x2, Water Retention x2, Crawling x2, Eating Dead Things x2, Mass Reproduction x1, Jaws x2, Communal Behaviour x4, Plant Eating x2, Complex Stomach x1, Smelling x1, Scent Glands x1, Cold Resistance x1, Parenting Instinct x1, Large Size x1.
The cavebugs were considerably nastier than their more primative ancestors. They had grown fiercer, with some members spending much time actively hunting for food while others would spend time caring for the young. The eggs would now be laid inside dead or dying bodies of other organisms. The decompostion would provide a ready source of food, and also some additional warmth from the decomposition process. The bugs also got better at crawling, using their increased speed to challenge any other organism they bumped into that was not a caveworm, any victims would be dragged back to the main cave. Plants would also suffer with roots or leaves being gnawed off the main plant, and dragged back to the cave complex together with any other fallen leaves or twigs that might provide nutrition.

Later Cavebug

Evolved from Cavebug
Genes added - smelling x1, Vibration sense x1 Crawling x1

Faster than the earlier Cavebugs, they had also developed the ability to smell at a futher distance, and detect the approach of potential prey - or predators. They still attempted to overwhelm anything living through sheer weight of numbers.

Ok, just use Horning Stalker. But here is eating Machine.

Add Planteatingx3!

EDIT: No jaws x2! I want beaks to continue my digestion advantage (plant eating x10! here i come!)

Go and read some past updates at the first page. Then go the this update and go the the TXT to look for a nice animal. Then you change it. Write stories and ask advice! I started this way to... with "moss" (never worked out) and the Finners (now scrapers and stalkers and very successful!) So test you arms! Do you like to make a tall tree? or do you like to extend branches? What ever way, I be you are going to enjoy it like I do!
Yeah or he can be like me and do so well with his first critter/plant that it gets the era named after it! lol, but i didn't expect my thing to be so good and have that big of an impact it amazed me, i thought i'd be just an average species. But i can't wait till next era

Any idea when the update will be Daft? I know you're working on DatfNES atm but I can't wait to have my first animal :D. The dome zeeboos will probs die out this turn but I think I can live with that. Could you possibly make a status check on the first page like there is in DaftNES.

eg. Working on update - will be about 2 days etc.

@Kol.7, the thing about setting deadlines for myself is that I tend to miss them all the time. All I can say is it will be next week sometime :(

@The Farow, you have until sunday if not longer, if you want to post a new evolution.

Even I have a dime, and i'm not even american!

It makes no difference joining whenever.. i pop in and out all the time.
You can take ANY creature and add a few genes to it.

I have 150 euros plus some coins (Maybe 175ish euros) and I'm not even European! ;)

Anyways, this seems way too advanced for me to join without having serious disadvantages.

You can evolve from ANYTHING in the creature stats list. ANYTHING.
