New Beta Version - June 14th (6/14)

I've seen posts about the "change 0.1 -> 1.0", was the 0.1 a mistake or is the 1.0 value an option for more laidback games?
I've been reverting some to older less unhappiness versions but consider 6.14 again.

It was a mistake that will cause massive unhappiness for tech leaders. You should change it back to 0.1.

Thank you I found the post on tab 6 or similar and I'm not helping to keep this thread short and consistent

Has anyone been seeing anything different when making demands from the AI? I am now regularly demanding and receiving vassalization from AIs; all the conditions are right for it (ie military score of 33 vs AI's 10, with them right next to me), but it's never been possible for me until the last couple of patches. The deal even still says 'Impossible!;' it's risen to the level of being a potential exploit for me. As an example from my current game as Assyria on King: most of the world is in Medieval, I'm in Renaissance. I've warmongered my way through the Inca, Korea, and the Shoshone in quick succession. Carthage and Russia are my two remaining neighbors, both extremely hostile, both denouncing me and with a Defensive Pact. Carthage declared on me shortly after I finished mopping up the Shoshone. Our border situation is such that attacking Carthage without a cooperative or subdued Russia would be very difficult from the land side of things:
Spoiler :

I have a much larger military than Russia and there's no chance of a friendly Open Borders agreement, so I decided to attempt intimidating her into submission, and she accepted my demand of Vassalization, backstabbing Carthage and putting herself into war.

Given their friendship towards each other and the fact that Carthage's military score matches my own, Russia almost certainly would have been better off telling me to shove it. In the past, she absolutely would have; instead, I have a straight, clear shot to Carthage (who has absolutely no chance of success in this war) with my only impediment now an obedient vassal. This effectively eliminates my only military competition AND the runner-up on the scoreboard in one fell swoop.

I'm honestly fine with this outcome if everything is playing out as intended, but it does feel a bit like I cheated when I vassalized Russia.

Just an FYI I had a computer malfunction (PSU) and I am currently waiting for the new one to arrive. Thus the lag in updates.
Aw, that's too bad.

At least that's a fairly cheap part

If it's a PSU malfunction you better prepare yourself to also replace the rest in the future. Depending on what happened, that is.

It wasn't a surge, actually just consistent voltage droop to peripherals. It runs fine at idle, but under heavy load it starts to get upset. It's an old PSU, the oldest part in my PC. I also splurged on myself and bought a new graphics card (which is feasible, now that bitcoin mining is in essence dead).

At some point I'll probably cave and get a new mobo+cpu, but not yet! :)

I'm noticing tons of "used" 1080s and 1080tis appearing on the market with no one offering to pick them up, so yup, the miner bubble is finally bursting. I bet soon the prices will be going down even more because there's tons of used high-tier cards nobody wants or needs anymore until they're back to where they were or even lower as the miners decide to just get rid of the cards. I wouldn't buy an used card myself, though. I might wait for the next iteration of graphic cards myself, no point upgrading from 980 when I barely play new games even if I'm having some problems with my rig that make me think the entire computer might be dying, ranging from inexplicable slowdowns, many games being unstable and other stuff. Hopefully it will last long enough so I don't need to be forced to upgrade before that point.

Yeah - the price history on 1070-1080 cards over the last year is crazy. Talk about bubble. I'd be weary of buying a used miner card, though - those poor things.

Aye, they are going to be extremely unreliable. Sucks for the guys who used it normally, anyone even considering a used card's purchase's going to assume they mined anyway. Even if they say they didn't, it's going to be hard to believe them. I only ever buy new components myself because I prefer to pay more for reliability and a good warranty.

A good psu may save your day. If you can afford it, purchase a good one. You can move it to your next mobo, when you're ready. (I know now it's too late, you've already made your order, surely).

I have the same case for almost 15 years. The psu failed 5 years ago and I replaced it with the same model. It's an Antec Minuet, which has an unique psu model. It looks like it's been purchased last year. A beautiful case you can have showing in the living room. The hardware inside has been replaced twice, for upgrades. Never a failure, except for the psu and some mice.

Only drawback is the slim factor that limits seriously what I can install. But VP is not a power hungry game, anyway.

I got a nice one from eVGA. My old one was so old it wasn’t even modular. So many unused cables...

Had to stop playing a game with India. Too much unhappiness. See below:

Mostly peaceful game. I killed Maya early, and took 1 city from Israel. Everything was fine until late Renaissance. I haven't conquered anything since the happiness struggles started.

I played with the 0.1 tech lead fix, but I was drowning in unhappiness from my capital. I couldn't keep control of my cities and they all started revolting. -1:c5angry: in each of my cities, and -25:c5angry: unhappiness from my capital alone (13 from poverty, 12 from crime), even though I have built literally everything. Delhi has a population of 46. there's nothing I can do to reverse this. The Indian UA strangled my empire.

I have ultra-dense cities (327:c5citizen: in 14:c5citystate: cities, or 23:c5citizen: per city), but am only getting 21 :c5happy:happiness from 15 unique luxuries on empire (1:c5happy: for each luxury, then +6:c5happy: bonus). Next upgrade is 200:c5citizen: away. Is this some sort of glitch? Why even have a luxury bonus mechanic that nets you 6:c5happy: for 325:c5citizen:? I’m assuming there’s a bug somewhere, because luxuries are utterly pointless in my game.

Is that bonus supposed to be +6:c5happy: per luxury, perhaps? Does anyone know how I can fix this? If not I guess i’ll Just give up on my game.

What does the top panel tooltip say for the luxury bonus?

Also, that is a very big city for 1830. A city in the '40s' citizens-wise is akin to modern Hong Kong. Imagine that in 1830.

It says "you have 89:c5happy: happiness from various sources"
19:c5happy: from Policies
39:c5happy: from buildings (i had the 1:c5happy: from all universities and castles in cities, and 1:c5happy: from national wonders. I also had zoos in 6 cities)
5:c5happy: from difficulty (prince)
5:c5happy: from natural wonders you have discovered
6:c5happy: from luxury bonuses
15:c5happy: from at least ONE COPY of each of these luxury resources:

Yeah, Demographics says my empire has 112 000 000 people. I was pretty happy with how big I had managed to build it. I didn't think my growth would be such a problem until it was too late. I have the red fort, and every crime/city defense building possible inside that city, but my crime has spiked as high as -17. Nothin I can do for it

As someone who plays almost exclusively India, it's definitely a problem that can crop up before you realize what's going wrong. I've recently started paying much more attention to the growth rate of my cities, which I guess is the intention, but it's slightly annoying that it can go so wrong so quickly. Especially since compounding growth is kind of India's thing. I wish there was either a way to combat it for India specifically or at least benefit from the compounding in some other way. Maybe yields on religion adoption or removing the cap on some of the founder selections or something. I miss late-game Holy Law!

Edit: I guess the benefit is that I can work more specialists earlier on without worrying about their food cost, and that's very good.

it's +1%:c5food: and +1 pressure per follower in every city, correct? India's UA seems to shoot itself in the foot because the happiness system makes your ability to control growth a very central mechanic. at 46:c5citizen:, and with India's extra 5%:c5food: carryover from Harrapan Reservoir, that capital effectively grows 1.5x faster than any other city on the map. And I just unlocked agribusiness, so that freight train just keeps on goin'. You'll notice several 12:c5food: farms in that pic
