pre-release info New Civ Game Guide: Abbasid

pre-release info
Interesting. Arabia from Civ6 was one of my favorite civs, and now the Abbasids look like they will become one of my favorites to play. I really like everything about this civ.

Associated Wonder:
House of Wisdom: Adds Science. Gain a set number of Relics. Increased Science on Great Works. Has a set number of Great Works slots. Must be built adjacent to an Urban tile.
This confirms that we will have Relics and Great Works again. I wonder how they will be obtained this time.

Wait a moment, that medieval wall looks different. Does that mean there is a bit of variation in walls, after all?:woohoo:

We knew there was a distinction in Antiquity between MENA and Eurasian walls so I presume that continues into Exploration and Modern.

As long as I know, the walls were always slightly different with each other in the previous videos. But yes, this wall is most unique than the others.

I suspect the UQ name "Ulema" and the UA name "Medina" are somehow mistakenly switched, since to my knowledge "Ulema" never refers to a building or an establishment (it means Islamic scholars), while "Medina" literally means "city."

And to receive great persons (who are also Islamic scholars), you need to build up their UQ (which developed from religious and educational institutions), which seems logical.
I want to point out that the ability description makes more sense for "Medina" than "Ulema"

Confucius looks like he would be a good leader for the Abbasids.

Those look more like a variant Ancient Walls, since we have seen an Abbasid city with more elaborate crenelated medieval-looking walls.

I'm guessing that this must be the Pavilion...

...since this seems clearly to be an Observatory.

Which is a correct observation, and Sar adds later that the quarter name is indeed "Ulema".

I still feel this is a bit off, though, since neither "Ulema" nor "Alim" (ulema is plural for alim) ever refers to something you can physically construct in a city, unlike "Medina." (Although this is not the first time I feel the naming is off regarding the original language.)

Yes, to the best of my recollection "Ulema" was never used for a building. It would've made more sense to have something like the Bimaristan, which could also function as an early hospital besides being a Sciene-related building.

Also "Dar al-Ilm" would be a better choice for a building's name.

There's still time to change it <nudge nudge>

Well, I also confused about that... but we can consider about that the Unique Quarter is what actually not be built in the game, but formed from the exact pair of the unique buildings. UBs are definitely the physical architectures with its own functions. But maybe UQ can have a conceptual name inspired from the UBs?
