New NESes, ideas, development, etc

not at all sarcasm, I love fresh start games, I've played in the last two I've found (Jason ran one a few months ago, then there's Eltain's thats still in my sig).

If you check the record my love of fresh starts goes back a long way though, I sincerely would like to see one.

There is the Spryllino NES set for ancient greece. That might be something to catch your attention... But i am not sure exactly when it starts. Personally i am very very excited about it.

It will start eventually, but don't hold your breath; I seem to be a lot busier than I thought I was when I posted the pre-thread.

GalaxyNES is a Fresh Start, but it is set in outer space and the players join as alien species... so yeah, not a standard fresh start, but I'd call it a fresh start nonetheless.

NK and I have been working with bombshoo on a little project: Here's the result of the night's work. :D bomb might talk about the idea more in the near future.

A NES where people play families settling in an island which we have invented for this purpose. It begins in the early 1600s, originating as a Hanoverian Colony, and will advance throughout history from there, with players leading their families through the development of the region, and whatever fate it may be led to.

Oh man I've been dreaming of a small regional NES of that flavor. Sounds wonderful. :D

I'd rather like to play that.

Have you ever read Aldous Huxley's Island?

In the spirit of that, what if you wanted to play as a native family who was friendly with the colonists and trying to hybridize their societies?
I think Masada wanted to try doing that, and no, I have never read that novel.

so it's in the americas? why not south asia? sorry, I didn't think the map was related, didn't read closely enough, my bad. nevermind.
Oh, hahah, for a moment I thought that you had confused a map of the US Eastern Seaboard for South Asia. :p

The idea of the NES is to sort of start a society from close to scratch. If we went with a populated area like South Asia, the game would inevitably end up more about subjugating natives rather than politics and deal making in a comparatively small region.

I am somewhat seriously considering making another foray into modding, finding that for the next month or so I have a comparative wealth of free time. The NES I'm considering running is a NESlite of the Second World War starting in 1936. Stats would be minimal, stories would be encouraged, etc. If interest is expressed, there would be a pre-thread to post reservations. I at least want players for all the major players in the war. Suggestions to tweaks for the map, or stats, are more than welcome. I do plan on venturing into the Spanish Civil War and fixing the map accordingly.

Spoiler :
earth1936.png

(thanks to Plexus for the base map)

Stats Example
United States of America
Republic: Franklin Roosevelt
Capital: Washington D.C.
Economic Power: 6/0
Army: 20 Infantry, 700 Armored
Navy: 80 Squadrons
Air Force: 800 Air Groups

1EP would by 10 Divisions/Groups/Squadrons of any type. Nation stats are at best derivative/basic at worst, completely arbitrary.

Sounds interesting. I'd play it- there's a few countries in WWII I'd be intrested to try out my pre-planned strategies for.

Iggy I feel llike the island should be wider for the sake of aesthetics, or possibly tilted to be more at an angle?
