New NESes, ideas, development, etc

Have there been any NES like Civ3's Fall of Rome scenario?

I can immediately recall Xen's first NES, but I'm sure there were others as well. Then again, I doubt that any of them were precisely like the scenario. Xen's was global, for instance.

Cool i'll take a lookee there, is there any preemptive interest in such a NES?

I'm fairly certain the first NES I ever played in (a Xen NES) was based on that. But I ain't sure.

I just wanted to say that I have copies of the Magnamund map I made for SSNES3 available. If anyone wants to start a fresh start random, I'd be glad to offer them. (And no, this is not a scam to take advantage on the maps later, since the MOD can decide to not have shroud. The idea never crossed my mind anyway. Seriously! :p)

I was wondering if someone would play in a Nes kinda like this...

It is the year 1700, and The British, French, Dutch, Spainish and Portugese Empires in the Americas are running, but the Spainish Empire is considerably smaller, only containing Columbia, and some carribean Islands.

The Cherokee and Huron tribes decide to make a pack for unification, and quickly defeat the Iroqouis, making them the dominant tribe in North America. Many tribes unify with them, and in 1720, with guns from the Europeans, defeat all of the colonial empires except for The Spainish in the Caribbean and The Portugese in Brazil. The newly formed NAF (Native American Federation) controls most of the land.

However in 1800, many white people who still lived in North America started forming nations. There will be foerign powers to help them dominate North America and some nations may form great empires.

OOC: The map would be North and South America, with nations like the Aztecs, maya, Inca, and NAF. In some areas though, people can make new nations.

So would anyone play it?

That's basically a rip off of EQ's nes the Eve of War, and that newbie invasion nes, just set in a different time period.

It's more like a fresh start North American NES

Hurons and Cherokees were a long distance away from each other. And native unification is horrendously unlikely, especially between different major groups (IE: 5 Nations were all Iroquois factions, not different races)

As part of the very complicated update I'm working on, I had to write up a short summary of each nation's own perspective on the turn as of Spring 1530. It got to be pretty long (about 3 pages). None of the fnal turn's final results are revealed, or even how the year 1530 ended, just some of the planning and reaction to some events that happened in January and February of 1530. I'm thinkiung of posting it prior to the final update. I would do this for two reasons:

1. It will give the players a peek at what may happen and how other nations view the start of the turn.
2. It will make the waiitng a bit more painful (or not) as you see how your plans fit in the larger unfolding of events. A bit of a teaser. ;)

Each nation would have a just few sentences that would set a tone. Now clearly such a post would be less significant for a nation like Calusa that tends to be olitary and does not appear to be interacting at the moment.

So what do you think about such a post? Would it ruin what you currently expect in the update? Yea or nay?

And a second question, if you like the idea, would you like it as a regular feature?

I LOVE THIS IDEA. Ayutthaya gets a part right? ;) If it doesn't, I hate the idea :p POST IT NAO!!!!

But aren't you worried about the additional time it will take for you to do this and the effect it would have on the time needed on your updates? :(

Agreed, id love to see how you think my nation is at the start of the turn.. BTW, is update planned for tomorro?

I love the idea :)

For this turn it is already done and was necessary for me to understand how the turn would start and then play out in subsequent turns. I htink that only nations that are actively engaging other players would be included, so a few might get left out each turn.

No, the update will not be finished tomorrow.

The idea sounds fine to me as far as this turn goes. I don't know if I would want it incorporated as a regular feature.

I would like to comment on this a little more

It would kinda be like a update preview to get us exited. However, I think it would only be needed to be done if a) Bird has extended the deadline b) He decides to watch Lawerence of Arabia c) He knnows the update will be taking a little longer than expected, so it'd be kkind of like a "hang in there guys" d) A new Naruto Episode gets in the way of updating or e) He has lots of time, and the update is almost complete, but some things need to be fine tuned.

Other than that, it would just be something that delays the update

That sounds really good as for regularity, I'd like to see what its like first.

All coments are welcome. That is why I made the post. :)

I am not sure what the net effect would be on the time it takes for the update to be posted. For the current update, going through the process will certainly improve the finished update and provide a smal stage from which all the later actions flow. Which is more important to players: more content and story details or faster final results?
