NHL 2012 Playoffs

And to think if the Leafs didn't have the worst collapse in history I could be contributing to this thread :(

Thats the second year in a row you've randomly shown up and beaten me to it JJP. :p

It seems that you only post at the end of the NHL season simply so you can beat me to this thread. :p

What I want so see: Red Wings vs. Bruins, with Red Wings winning

What will happen: Vancouver beating Wings in Conference championship, Rangers collapsing spectacularly, and whoever wins Eastern Conference (Too early for me to guess) will beat Vancouver in a sweep because Canadian teams aren't allowed to win. :p

So the Nucks are the only Canadian team in the playoffs?

I've yet to choose an NHL team because my usual method of supporting the San Diego team doesn't work (and no, don't mention the Kings). I know I'll back one of the Canadian teams but I'm still torn between the Senators, the Canucks and the Leafs...

Edit: Wow, just checked and my god that's a lot of playoff teams. More than half? Seriously?

Ottawa is actually looking pretty solid this year. I'd say they, and not Vancouver, has a better chance of breaking the Canadian drought.

Being the 8th seed in the East isn't going to help Ottawa's chances.

Also, playoff pool posted once the final matchups are decided.

But the Western Conference, IMO, has a tougher competition in general. Being in the Eastern helps them immensley. Plus, they're going against the Rangers, who I am 95% sure, distipe being no. 1 seed, will not make even the conference championship AND Ottawa beat them 3 out of the 4 times they met.

Ah, hockey. The sport I understand so poorly, yet enjoy so much. I may not even submit a playoff pick 'em this year, but I promise I'll be following along . . .

I like the changes in the point system. Although, if it's not to much work for you, giving bonus points for each round your predicted final teams survive seems fairer. 1p the first round, 2 the second, etc.

edit: changed St. Louis vs San Jose

Problem with that is that if the team you picked won, you would get 10 points, which would be seriously unbalanced, in addition to the 6 points you could also get for picking the runner up.

Looking back at last year, I didn't give any bonus points for that. Though that can change if people want.

It would only grant you 16p more than someone else if you picked the correct winner and runner up while the other one's two picks were eliminated in the first round, but I agree, 16p may be a bit too much. 1+1+2+2 would be better. I'd be fine with omega's suggestion, though.

I was often too busy to contribute with the regular season thread, but I hope to be much more active in this one. I hope my Blues can finally do something :). I've waited long enough.

East

Final: Philadelphia over Vancouver

I think PIT is actually better than PHI, but that they will have a couple of bad games and drop the series in six.
