Nimrud is almost certainly legendary. The feats and places accorded to him in the Bible and other sources are not at all supported by the historical documents we have from Mesopotamia nor from archaeology. It seems he is an amalgam of actual figures and mythology, much like the story of the Tower of Babel and also the flood, both of which date back to a much earlier Sumerian tradition (for which there is a reasonable amount of evidence). Babylon did not exist in this period.
