@ Munter ~ look, I'm american ~ sometimes i forget there's a world outside our two oceans  my mistake~ :rotfl: norway, right? (now i know...and knowing is half the battle  ) it's been a while since i had to learn the world capitals...

my poor skills in a great many things aside :p

Play On!!

0: Several problems. The whipping of Athens leaves it stuck at two pop, until we get the gold hooked up, or the angry citizens get over the oppressions of the past. Since I don't think it's wise to whip Athens again until the unhappiness wears off, I'll leave it at stagnant for now, and start another archer after that. Then a worker probably.
Athensatstart.jpg

At thermopylae, that archer will never get done in time anyway, so I chance on continuing the Obelisk. With it's bonuses, the Archer has a strength of 7.5 against the axes 5, in addition to its first strike, so no worries yet.
(When the axes come in two's, then I'll whip another archer)
Archercanhandleit.jpg

1: The axe closes, and the worker moves to the plains hills gold.
We are in a border war with the German city. It is producing 5cpt, while we are only doing 2cpt. Doesn't seem like a problem yet though.

2: A barb archer shows up as well outside Thermo. There's nothing to be done, to get another archer there. We don't have the population to whip one, and there's no spare archers anywhere.
If those two barbs coordinate their attacks, we could be in trouble.
Moretrouble.jpg

3: Hah! The archer takes the axe out without a scratch! The next barb will do nothing but give our brave lone defender enough xp to gain another promotion! Troubling, to our south, another axe shows up. I retreat the Archer for now, and hope he passes to trouble Bismarck
sweetmove.jpg

4: Another Hah! The axe does axactly so. Onwards towards Otto. Had I stayed, the barbarian would probably have killed our archer. Playing those raging barbs at emperor around the Virgin Emperor's little finger is no problem.
The other barb up north dies, and our archer up there (renamed to Emperor Guard) is due it's third promo. I am unsure of whether to give it garrison or first strike, so I don't do anything. If another axe shows up, it should be promoted, but remember that the healing effect of the promo can be very useful if the barbs come in numbers.

One of the  in Athens go away, and the city will grow next turn.

5: Both Athens and Sparta is now size three.

6: The gold mine is done, and working it cuts a whopping 12 turns off the alphabet!

7: The worker moves to cottage FPs.

8: Archer done in Sparta, start a library

9: Archer done in Athens, start a worker. Check out the barb axe from beforecausing trouble in Germany:D
barbtroublingBismarck.jpg

10: A quite boring turnset, really. I think we have enough archers now for our workers to feel safe and for another settler to found a city.
When we get that copper, I want to see those axes and phalanxes cracking the German Buddha skulls.

I started this worker on a cottage:blush: . Abort that and connect the gold with a road, then finish the cottage. We need the happines in 6 turns when the city grows.
connectgold.jpg

Worker from Athens should connect copper ASAP. Maybe start another worker right after to improve tiles in Athens.
This river will transport copper from Thermopylae to Athens, roads can wait.
rivertransport.jpg

And preferrably don't whip Athens for 9 more turns. Then the  will disappear.

Here's a the world as we know it.

I'm with you, Pholk. While I do know that Oslo is the capital of Norway, I still put the blame clearly on the Europeans. See, when I was in eigth grade, I took a test. In front of me was placed a map of the world with geographic outlines, but no names.

It was my responsibility to fill in the names of the countries and their respective capitals. I did well on that test, if I remember correctly.

That was in 1987 (88?). Since then, the Berlin wall went down, Germany reunited, the Iron Curtain fell, something happened to Czechloslovakia that I still don't understand, nations like Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, and France suddenly came into being, and someone took a blender to Africa.

Surprisingly, the most stable parts of the world have been Asia and the Middle East. WTH?

I say, if you want us to remeber your capital, make sure your continent has been static for at least the last twenty years. Phffbbbtt!

Asia? You're kidding, right? Ten bucks if you can name all of the former republics of the Soviet Union without looking them up! And another 10 bucks if you can spell them all correctly!

Way to go surviving that axe attack and leading the other one right over to Otto :goodjob: i think that if we're going to take out Bismarck, we should forego another city and concentrate on an army for now ~ but really, should Germany be our first target?? Mongolia is MUCH weaker and may not have copper ~ plus there's a barb city we can take for XP.

my bad on the stagant Athens ~ total :smoke: as i forgot that Emperor has a lower happy threshold

I think we should found at least one more city to secure the Horses. After that we should build some Axes, bring Harapan into the Delian League (if the Khan doesn't take it by then) in order to give our boys some experience, then move on to Bismarck and/or Ghengis. Bismarck is attractive since he has the Buddhist Holy City, which would be a nice addition to our Empire.

Good points all. The only downside to Biz is that his holy city will have a high cultural defense, along with his capital. we may lose a lot of units that way ~

Very true. And at least one of his defending Archers is likely to have a CG III promotion. We may have to wait for the 'Pults.

If we go for Germany, I think just a quick surprise attack at the Buddha holy city would be smart. Then go after Ghengis perhaps? We don't need no catapults. Lots of lots of units will do the trick. How many archers do you think there are in that city anyway? Can't be more than a couple.

translation = got it?

I don't believe there will be much for me to do this turn, except moving our existing Archers around, and setting improvement orders for the Workers.
Only a couple of Barbs in the picture, and one of them is the Axe tormenting Otto.

Turn 1 (745 BC)
A Barb Archer in the south looks like he is following his Axeman brother toward Germany.

Turn 2 (730 BC)
Uh oh. An Axe is inbound toward Sparta. He will probably pillage our Gold mine there.

Turn 3 (715 BC)
The Axe veers left toward our pasturized Sheep. There's not much that I can do about it. :(

Turn 4 (700 BC)
Thermopylae completes: Obelisk --> Archer (12)
Whoops Barb Archer headed toward Germany veers left towards Athens!

Barb Axe near Sparta veers left again. Maybe he's headed toward Khan's Horses?

Turn 5 (685 BC)

IBT: Achilles fends off a Barb Archer:
While defending Athens, Achilles (Archer) (2.67/3) defeats: Barbarian Archer

Turn 6 (670 BC)
Hooray! The Barb Axe headed for Genghis's Horses!
Sparta enters unhappiness *AND* unhealthiness. Sparta's growth is now stagnant, and we can't yet whip the Library there. Our Worker there heads toward our Gold mine to build a road.

Turn 7 (655 BC)
Barb Archer steps out of the fog, headed toward Thermopylae.

Turn 8 (640 BC)

He's ba-a-ack! Herre comes our Barb Axe buddy, ready to pillage our Sheep:

IBT:A Barb Archer attacks Thermopylae:
While defending, Emperor Guard (Archer) (3.00/3) defeats: Barbarian Archer

Turn 9 (625 BC)
Our Gold at Sparta mine is online, and Sparta's happiness is under control. We can now :whipped: the Library there for 2 pop, so why not?
We're going to lose our Sheep next turn. :(

Turn 10 (610 BC)
Sparta completes: Library --> Granary

IBT:The Barb Axe pillages our Sheep. No more lamb kebab for a while!

Turn 11 (595 BC)

IBT: Julius completes The Oracle.

Turn 12 (580 BC)
Barb Axe moves away from Sparta bakc toward Genghis. I guess he was satiated with our mutton.

IBT: We are visited by an Aztec delegation requesting that we cancel our Open Borders with Germany.

Despite the fact that Germany will one day be our sworn enemy, I decline. I want to get a unit over to scout out that Buddhist Holy City. Montague is not too happy:

Turn 13 (565 BC)
Athens finishes: Worker --> Archer (19) Moving him to Thermopylae.
Thermopylae finishes: Archer --> Barracks (15)
Without the Sheep, Sparta is growing slowly. Moving the Worker over to Athens to pasture the Pigs. This should allow Athens to generate a Settler for City # 4 faster.

Played two more turns (nothing happened) for a total of 15.

Here's our situation near Thermopylae:

And near Sparta:

sweet 8 more turns to Alphabet ~ why didn't you jsut finish that up ;)

we're back to 10 turns people!!

we should have sparta build a barracks, too, soon, myabe that archer came move west to a hill or forest by Harrapan. It could draw barbs that may come for our copper ~ which is where our worker should head after the pigs are pastured.

finally, i'm also still firmly in the Genghis-first camp. i think we'll defintely need cats to take out Germany's holy city and capital, i think. but we should probably have a vote...though i'm pretty sure Harappan should be our first target :hammer:

I though frankcor posted something on the OoP thread stating he is on autoskip due to him feeling very ill ....

I have it, but won't play until 24hrs later ... I think I'll play us to a nice round number (that measn either less than 10 or more 10, depedning which nice round number I am inclined to end up with :D)

I won't be looking at war with AI now ... we need to get our copper up for some axes to handle barb axes first

Believe me, I was tempted! :)

That is 8 turns to Alphabet at 100% research, which we can only sustain for 3 more turns. It will probably take 11-12.
