Prediction Thread

Biden will be highly polarizing as President and eventually in 2024, Mike Huckabee will be elected President.

Clean up time!
I predict Google Stadia will be shut down by the end of next year which will spur a lawsuit that they'll settle out of court for pennies on the dollar and most of the pennies going to lawyers.
I'm calling this one as wrong.

I predict the Equal Rights Amendment will be put into the constitution after passing legal challenges at the Supreme Court.
I no longer believe this prediction; I now think Roberts will invalidate the ERA even though it's finally passed the 2/3 threshold for being added to the constitution.
The jury is still out on this but I feel my update is correct because of the 6-3 conservative supermajority on the Supreme Court.

2020 is turning into such a poopshow that I now predict NASA will confirm a-planet killing asteroid in on course to wipe us out by July. Trump will issue a strong response detailing the massive personal tax cut he will propose for Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos and the gutting of NASA to pay for it.
This one was actually closer than you might think. Several large asteroids have buzzed the Earth this year though none were big enough to end civilization and none hit the planet. (they were city-busting size). Count it as wrong.

I predict that the nation's top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, will be fired by the end of next week. His crime? Contradicting Trump's lies and misinformation.
Count it as wrong though in fairness to myself, if Trump could have gotten away with this, he would have.

I predict that in 2021 DC statehood will pass the Senate and House (again) but Roberts will issue a stay on it becoming a state due to a GOP lawsuit and will ultimately uphold the lawsuit and block statehood.
Jury is still out on this one. I don't think it will pass the Senate now even if the Democrats pick up both Georgia seats.

1.I predict Trump will lose pretty badly in the upcoming election, mount an attempt to stay in office but the GOP will finally break with him and show him the door.

2. He will claim asylum in Russia and flee the US to avoid tax evasion and other charges.

3. I predict Trump will lose in the election but claim vote rigging and Chinese interference invalidates the results.

4. He will successfully stop the electoral college from meeting and therefore the House will have to vote on a winner. Unfortunately under these circumstances, the House is mandated by the constitution to vote by states rather than individual members. Thus, with more state delegations under control of the GOP than the Democrats, Trump will win an illegitimate second term.
  1. Kind of correct. He did lose by a wide margin and some in the GOP broke with him but not enough for me to fully claim this prediction. Call it half-right.
  2. Still open
  3. Technically wrong but basically correct. He claimed it was Venezuela (of all places) that participated in vote rigging and has claimed the results were invalid.
  4. Still open but doubtful

I predict the Republicans will ram a replacement Justice through and shamelessly hand wave all their prior "election year" excuses for holding up the Garland nomination.
That's a-yup

I found out that Florida is one of the states that begins counting mail-in votes as they arrive rather than waiting until election day. This means there likely won't be a huge lag in knowing who won there, assuming most voters don't wait until the day of the election to mail in their ballot*. I now predict that Florida will be called one way or the other on election night and if Trump loses it, he'll actually leave office. He may never officially concede, but with him (at best) still recovering from a serious illness and then losing by wide margin a key state, I think the party leadership will finally do the right thing and tell him the jig is up.

*I know that's a big if, but if there ever were a year where people get off their ass to vote well in advance, this is it.
I was right that it was called on election night but since Biden didn't win it, the rest is irrelevant. Call it correct.

I think Joe is going to flip some states like Georgia and Texas.

If this does come to pass, does anyone think the GOP will reform itself or will keep on marching to the tune of overt racism?

What % margin was the 10,000 votes?
Right about Georgia, wrong about Iowa, North Carolina and Florida. Call it wrong.

If it's a blowout, he'll be rebuffed by the Court and be denied a case IMO. He will try though, and if the results are not known by the end of next week then I expect they'll hear the case arguments. What happens if they hear the case is anyone's guess and highly dependent on the particulars. I think if there's any wiggle room for Barrett and Kavanaugh to give the election to Trump with at least a veneer of propriety, they'll take it. I do somewhat expect Roberts to vote to stop Trump efforts but I don't think he'll be the swing vote on the new court on this issue.
This is pretty much what happened - SCOTUS has dragged their feet and made clear they won't do heavy lifting for Trump. Call it correct. (the first if clause was correct, negating the rest)

I predict that on Wednesday morning, with no 'official' winner announced, Trump does an Oval Office address and claims victory.

Yes, I do occasionally lean pessimistic, why do you ask?
LOL I think it was after midnight when he had his press conference so spot-on!

Gotta put this in here before I forget:
Trump is running in 2024. The amount of money he is able to grift off of his supporters is too great to resist. I expect him to announce his candidacy for 2024 within the next few months. And the Republican primary field will be similarly split in 2024. Just look at how many candidates the Republicans had in 2016 and how many the Democrats had in 2020. Its escalating.Trump got the most votes of any Republican in history. There is no way he doesn't run in 2024. Its just impossible that he stays out. If he is alive he is running 100%. Where is the predictions thread so I can ink this one now?
I think the best we can hope for, is that he runs and it results in part of the Republicans splitting into a 3rd Party.

Hoping that Trump just willingly gives up the "campaign donations" and adoring crowds chanting his name is just... I guess naïve is a polite way of putting it. I mean maybe he lets one of his kids (or their spouses) run in his stead, maybe... but someone in the Trump family is running in 2024 and that's all there is to it.

Seventy-three million votes... and counting. Trump is running again. Write it down.

Trump will hold rallies and try to keep the faithful lapping at his feet over the next few years so he can control the 2024 primaries. he will not run. Court cases may diminish this effort though.

Yes, he will.
Yes, he will.

How?
Trump didn't want to be president to begin with, but once he got the job what he liked best were the adoring crowds and the center stage. And the money. He doesn't like the work part. He will be 4 years older and that will take a toll. Keeping the crowds and playing kingmaker suits his narcissism without the actual work. As we have seen recently, Trump hides when things go against him and he cannot effective create distractions. Court cases will make him look bad and he will no longer have the presidency to create other news. I think if tax fraud and insurance fraud are out on the table, he will want to hide as much as he can to avoid the public. He won't be able to use AF 1 to just fly into a town, hold his rally and fly out again. Cities may not grant him permits even if the rallies will cost them money.

Inspired by the post by @Bamspeedy in the “anti-vax?” thread, I predict somewhere a person who has received a coronavirus vaccination will have some symptom described in the press as a “possible side effect” although the individual’s particular case will be so rare that it’s almost applicable to no one and will likely have not been a result of the vaccination.

This will then become fodder to the dolt army of Facebook-dwelling self-anointed medical experts who already think vaccines cause autism, buy “detox” pads and believe in homeopathy.

Bill Barr will resign before Christmas. :p

Trump will spend the Holidays in Florida and not return to Washington for the inauguration.
