I often hear many points for and against membership of the European Union but I'm curious about others opinions on the matter. What do you believe are some positive and negative aspects of the EU? I'm currently neutral on whether my own country Britain should remain or leave.

CONS: monetary policy is common for all countries, for example, some countries needa change in the interest rate right now so that their economies stop weaken, while it is unnaceptable for others.

I currently look for a job, and do that also in other countries.
And I have to say that it's great that I could just travel everywhere without a problem, move to there and work there without much beaurocratic hassle (at least in theory).
I would not even have to think about the currency, and next year even the bank transactions will become easier.
In these regards: Totally great thing.

Really? Heh, interesting. I still think it's a bad idea but to each his own. :)

Eu Monetary Union
Pros: single currency
Cons: single currency

EU
Pros: another European-started world war v. unlikely
Cons: Brussels.

There are four main criticisms I hear from people who think the EU was a bad idea.

It forces every country to be exactly the same when they are different.

The worst country will bring the rest down.

The EU is constantly making stupid laws like the one about the shape of a banana.

It's basically communism.

Some other pros:

- Europe ends up having more say and power in the world politically
- Living standards & infrastructure improvements across the continent

Cons:

- Excessive Bureaucracy
- Since Norway hasn't joined yet, it looks like there is a penis on all EU issued money

You don't have to join the Eurozone if you join the EU. So that's not an argument against the EU itself.

Only one of them is actually valid. I'll leave it up as an exercise for the reader to find out which.

China: 1.3 billion people
India: 1.2 billion people
USA: 315 million people

Germany: 82 million people
United Kingdom: 62 million people

European Union: 503 million people.

I rest my case.

I think the UK and a few other countries like Denmark have the best position, which is being EU members without the millstone of the single currency round our necks.

Generally it is a good thing, but some things should be reformed within it, most notably CAP.

Nope!

Hmm. This is a puzzler. What do I think you think is the only valid one?

Is it "The worst country will bring the rest down"?

What is your case, the more people the bigger ******** a country becomes?

No. I would guess, the bigger the block the more global influence it has.

EU + Russia ~ 650 million. A supapowah.

Yup.

Unite or be swept aside, that's Europe's choice. There is no middle ground, the age when small nation states had the power to influence events in the world of giants is over.

Sarcasm is not an "I win" button.

You sound a lot like Merkel now.

Good example for why more isn't always better.

I think the "produces stupid laws" thing is semi-legit. Not that the EU produces that much more silly laws than your average national government, it's only that there are 27 governments who like to blame the EU for everything silly.

Dammit! Wrong guess. Nvm.

(see, I was thinking you might be thinking of Greece and a domino effect.)

Yup.

Still desperate to be part of a superpower I see, well I really don't want to be part of one.
I'm not too fond of the things Great Britain gets upto now nevermind the things you'd have us doing.

Sarcasm is not an "I win" button.

Do you want to be like the countries he listed? Only USA has certain good aspects but those are being constantly eroded.
