Mine had over 300 people and it cost around 15K (yeah back in the stone age) but we made twice as much back in cash and prizes (i mean gifts)

At least I have a twin brother who was able to work my wife's family side of the room. To this day, they all still speak very highly of my taking the time to go to all their tables that day. (our cumber-buns weren't even the same color but they never noticed)

Rehearsal dinners are traditionally paid for by the groom's family and is for all the wedding participants. It is their contribution to the wedding.

They've evolved some. The latest one for my nephews. The rehearsal is usually extended to those folks from out of town (usually family) that arrive early in this case there were almost 150 people at it) and even though my brother picked up the tab, he still contributes to the wedding itself due to the overall cost.

Rant: Anti-vaxxers are at it again.

The part that made me angry was the comment about the "benign childhood diseases." They're not benign!

I wonder if part of the reason anti-vaxxers are a thing is because they didn't get to see the effects of horrible diseases. Like polio patients stuck in an iron lung.

Why does this remind me of those Sicilian Mafia weddings (e.g. at the beginning of The Godfather)? It maybe the fact that you're from Chicago.

Yes, this is an important component of their mindset. They think that it's the end of history insert-disease-here because we've already defeated insert-disease-here.

And our family is Italian. ;) Our grandparents were born in the old country. We're going to do a family outing there next year, once we're all retired. (but we're from the north)

A class I'm taking has 60% of the grade dependent on talking to other students, which I have no intention of doing.

Thankfully, it's not a class I need to pass, as it's just some hippy-esque existential therapy course that counts for nothing.

But it's still silly.

All they need to do is look at a photo and listen to speeches of former Prime Minister Jean Chretien. He had polio as a child, and was fortunate to live through it and go on to lead a relatively normal life. He still has partial paralysis from it, though, which is why his facial features are lopsided and he has difficulty speaking. And if that isn't convincing, show them the evidence of people who had it much worse.

I am giving a talk at a conference tomorrow, and no-one at the venue can tell me what aspect ratio the projector is. In this day and age it should be part of the standard pressentor info, not something you need to chase up individually and certainly not something you cannot find with a few emails.

Undoubtedly. Or ya know people dying en masse of smallpox...

CO2 levels would momentarily spike dramatically lemme tell you that.
Oh dear ... do you mean you think I talk too much? :(

Up and down weather is driving me insane ... just switch over to fall already! I'm ready for some cooler weather so I can start wearing my fall clothes.
