Sure you could pick another. "Idiot" though sets the right tone. Do feel free to give him credit for overthrowing the Tzars and enabling the horrors that followed. Best intentions and all that. He was not a particularly good person in my mind.

Well, I'll leave it at the statement that, if a moral judgement is, in the end, your condemning factor, "Idiot" is not a term associated with MORAL judgement. It's a term associated with quite another, very different sort of judgement, when properly used.

Yeah it would have been a crap show regardless. Sometimes the alternative is worse though.
Keeping the monarchy with anything other than ceremonial authority wasn't going to happen.

What happened, happened for better or worse. Within a few years of the dead royals, a mess. That is often the way when long established monarchies fall. France had chaos for while; Germany too, even if it took a bit longer to manifest. Vacuums create opportunities and opportunists come knocking.

You guys remember a while back I talked about those little messages my employer puts all the restrooms? Well the one they have in there this month has me thinking the person who came up with it didn't really think through what they were writing.

The message was about diversity in the workplace. Cool. The line that stood out to me though was at the end it said something like "We want a workplace where everyone feels comfortable being their authentic self".
"Wait not you, Commodore"

Hear, hear, you'd have to be either mad, or desperate, or reckless, or naïve, or a combination thereof.

El Presidente thanks you for wanting to have two jobs taxed and has instituted a third tax to help process the first two taxes.
This happened to me in the Netherlands when I was asked to pay sales tax on a speeding ticket.

Since long I really hate someone not finishing their food. For instance going out with girl who trying to look cute (it's kind a trend here, like girl don't want to picture themselves as big eater) by eating half portion really put me off, all the animal life that died for that plate just get wasted, what a tragedy!.

And one of my son now entering 2 years old, he really loves to say no recently. So when we want him to finish his food, he just play around, eat some, and left, it's really hard to beg him to eat more, it's like we doing this favor for him. Glad there are stray cats around, some of the meat and fish, or chicken or whatever left over we can feed it to the cats, and they are so grateful about that.

But this morning, it's just the last straw. During breakfast, after playing with his food and smiling and talking around while we are eating breakfast, he push his plate to the floor and mess up all the food and break the plate also (hence I cannot give that food to the cat right now). Think about it, the animal literally die so we can have them in our plate, ever bite of it I really think we should respect it, if I cannot finish my food, at least I finish all the flesh that is served in my plate, honoring their sacrificial death.

When that happened I scream inside me. I'm trying to control myself, and I ask him to go to his room, and I said there will be no food for him until next lunch, and I told my wife please eat around 3 pm today so he can appreciate the food better. Now they are in the library, and my wife called me saying that he is so hungry, he beg for food, when she rejected him he said he want to talk to me talking about the food, I feel so happy inside, I told my wife don't gives or buy him any food, he deserves that, he need to wait until the time when everybody eating together.

I should already do this like a month ago. Uff.. after typing this I feel extra relieved.

He's entering 2 and you think not feeding him will teach him spiritual lessons about how you feel about meat?

Not entering 2 nearly 2 and half, He will eat but at a determined time, I already consult the children doctor about eating problem and his advice was cut the snack and get a proper eating time, when it's past eating time he need to wait until that exact time. We never have the heart to do that till now.

Edit: My fault writing it as entering 2 in the previous post, what I mean is, it's entering the phase of the terrible 2 where he just want to say "no" and being "rebel" about stuff, because he just formed his character.

And about the spiritual lesson on how I feel about meat, yes he may not understand it now and there's no way to explain it now. What I hope is he can appreciate food better with hunger, waiting from breakfast time till lunch time, not by force feeding (we used baby led weaning, he already eat by himself from the very beginning) or telling him repetitively to finish his food which is definitely not working.

I also think I must straighten something before you misunderstand me. We were beaten as a kid (mine not so much only 3 time but my wife suffered a lot)and I definitely want my children to have better childhood than we do. But I also cannot let my kid grow without discipline. Like if it is night time and it's time for them to sleep, and they refuse to go and want to be with me, I will told them to stay with me and I'm going to sleep at midnight and so do they, we will hangout until that time, which pretty much makes them sleep directly without further persuasion.

I don't know any better method than that. I definitely against old shool discipline but I also against attachment parenting. If after years of toilet training they still refuse to go to toilet when they need to and end up peeing on their pants, I ask them to wash their own pant. With that without any shouting and tantrum they will not do the same mistake, because they will be the one who cleaning the mess that their made up. If that is abuse, then I don't know man.

Alas, poor Dike, I knew her, Athene.

Is it certain that Athena was ever called Athene? I haven't come across that supposedly ionian form for this word, in Greek. Ionian-Dorian changes don't happen to all terms which end in -e, -a, but in English I have seen "Athene" many times and I find it very cacophonic.
Then again you have "Sparta", which again I am not sure existed in ancient Greek either (seems to have been just Sparte, at least in the usual clause of the name).

Well, Wikipedia cites the Ionian spelling as Ἀθήνη, but notes that the -ene ending suggests that she was named after the city, rather than the reverse (see Wiktionary here for other spellings). Wikipedia also notes that Sparta is spelt Σπάρτα in Doric and Σπάρτη in Attic, so it doesn't seem all that consistent. :p

Yes, wiki has various errors all over the place, though I suppose there was a double spelling.

Anyway, this is Patision avenue, which I now walk through to get to the city center (on the other side of the pic). On the opposite direction the Acropolis is visible, but other than that it is not a good area.

I think I live near the abrupt vanishing point of the actual street in this pic. The positive is that it is a 30 min walk to the center/parliament square.

Rant: A fly keeps landing on my monitor. I'm afraid to swat it in case it splatters. It's making me frustrated.

I have some insect repellant. But spraying it on the monitor might be a bad idea.

This street scene looks like it more belongs in Rio de Janeiro or Bogota than a First World European capital...

Yeah, unless all of the photos on Google have been doctored, Athens looks mighty crowded. I've never been there, though.

Ugh, the sprawl. Weirdly the urban area (3M) density is at a respectable but middling 7k/km2
