I bite off the skin around my nails which is frequently bloody and very painful and that does not stop me.

You do that unconsciously. A conscious bite is a different beast, and it will associate with the having your hands near your mouth in a way that will make you notice them more quickly.

I had an idea that I thought was too extreme, but in this light...

Jab a bamboo splinter under each nail and leave it out kinda long...when your hand approaches your face it will catch and be jabbed deeper under your nail, getting your attention immediately.

Annoying piece on the news tonight about Malaysia's deradicalization of Islamic Militants.
It told me that their program is highly successful but also controversial for human rights reasons but nothing about what the program actually involved, how it was different from those of other countries, or what the criticisms actually were.

I will make it clear with my body language and general non-responsiveness that I am not listening until the interaction becomes so awkward for the other person that they are effectively shamed into silence. If that doesn't work, then I will eventually just straight up walk away from the person while they are mid sentence.

Hey I'll admit that I'm a dick to strangers. Not in a hostile way though, just in a "don't talk to me unless we have business to conduct" kind of way.

If one does that but doesn't make eye contact, it's usually safest to assume crippling shyness or a touch of the spectrum. It's the direct eye contact with a sneer and walkaway that's more damaging to the healthy opinion of randoms, and that rarely seems to be guys(at least for/to me).
