Random Rants Eighty-Four: Rants Gone Wild!!!!

Sometimes I'll start typing a response to a thread in the 'quick reply' box underneath the latest message, then change my mind and delete it. The forum software remembers, though, and leaves my partially-written response there every time I open the thread again. I just have to delete it again when I do write an eventual response. This can occasionally be baffling when the saved text is referencing text written days ago and I have no memory of what I was trying to say, since the conversation in the thread has moved on.

It is a reflex of mine to quickly click the floppy disk in the Quick Reply bar and then click Delete Draft every time I delete a message.

Rant: There are Chinese kids here being edgy and coughing in people's faces before shouting "I just got back from Wuhan!" They've been doing it so much that there's been a police van stationed outside the school for two days now, I presume to catch them in the act and then do... something? Write their parents a strongly worded letter, perhaps.

Anyways, it's agitating, and the police presence hasn't seemed to do anything to lessen it. I was a teenager once but I don't understand the appeal. There doesn't appear to be a gotcha involved.

They could run those kids in for inciting a panic or maybe criminal mischief. Harassment and assault are two other options as well.

Probably shouldn't actually run them... but a trip to the station is an idea.

You didn't live long enough to appreciate vBulletin if Xenforo made no difference to you. :(

Or bring them home to their parents.

Or bring them home to their parents.

Nah because there's no guarantee their parents will punish them sufficiently to instill in them that their actions have consequences.

I'm not saying throw them in prison, but I wouldn't be against law enforcement scaring the crap out of those kids by making them think they are about to be thrown in prison. Also have them bear the shame of having to explain to their parents why they had to be picked up from the local police station.

Much to @Commodore's delight, I'll be taking my 5th sick day of the year tomorrow, which isn't bad given January isn't even over yet. I used to get colds/flu/tonsillitis/etc a lot when I was younger, but since about 25 or so it seemed like I'd finally built up some sort of immunity to things, so it's really quite annoying and unusual to be hit with a second nasty cold in the space of a month. I've also had a lingering cough since about mid-December which may or may not be related to it.

I should probably be posting this in the Death thread.

That is indeed true. Your immune system should be killing whatever microbes got into you by the thousand.

Why is simple.wikipedia a thing? Is it for kids or something who can't read giant articles? I'm ranting because I accidentally clicked on one of these simple articles and it was a stub, half the links were red, and it was flat-out contradicted by the original wiki page on the subject matter.

I thought a simple English Wikipedia would be a good resource for English learners in other countries, but I found articles using increasingly more difficult language that ultimately defeat its intended purpose.

Someone needs to take the articles there and actually make them simple. I don’t want to do it because it seems like Wikipedia editors are like the Ayatollah Khomeini with a keyboard and an infinite supply of Hot Pockets.

Just got back from the men's room. There was a newer employee next to me and he was checking out his cell phone while urinating.
It wouldn't have bothered me so much except I could hear that he had the flow of a race horse and probably pumped out a quart in about 5 seconds.
Now if he was an old fart like me and it took 5 minutes I might understand. He then walked out without washing his hands. I might have said something but didn't want to hear 'OK BOOMER'

Ewwww ... not washing hands is so incredibly gross.

*sigh* this random middle eastern guy somehow found me through a group I'm part of online, and he keeps insisting I need to move over there and marry him. He knows I'm married, but he insists only he can really care for me. I've blocked him once, but I'm too soft and I feel sympathy for him, he doesn't seem to have many people in his life. I know I need to block him, but it's hard because he's sweet and non-threatening, and I'm terrified of breaking his heart. I've done nothing to lead him on or anything ... why can't someone just talk to you platonically without thinking it needs to lead to romance?

Simple English Wikipedia is very underutilized anyways. It could be a good resource, except that nobody really does anything with it.

Yeah, you need to. There is no two ways about it, unfortunately.

Break his heart. Not only will it heal, but you saying no will be positive for you.

That's not an easy thing for me to do, I greatly struggle with saying "no."

I think that's not so hard for her to say 'no' to. :p

That is why this situation is a good one to practice with. A person far away, who you don't know, who is mostly attracted to you because you are a pretty, smart woman with a foreign accent, etc. !

Turning down Syn's request might be much more difficult. ;)
