A funeral is a community event.

A funeral is a community event.

That depends. If it's only family and friends of the deceased showing up, I would call that a personal family matter. If most of the community turns out for the funeral like what happened with a Korean War veteran that died here last year, then it's a community event.

So, what, like people are migrating in to be interred with visitation and significant enough attendance to actually have a procession?

Or community member status is like contingent on a popularity test?

I would think maybe it depends on whether random public people are allowed to attend or not.

More like "Was this person an honored member of the community?" You know, people like veterans, police officers/firefighters killed in the line of duty, long-serving and well-respected public officials, and others who are regarded as pillars of the community.

If enough people are honoring to actually have a procession, i think it's sort of self defining.

Rant: Making the sleeves on my chainmail shirt are driving me insane. Having to tie together a weave oriented in two different directions is a massive pain - not helped in that I am using fairly small rings. Plus, I ran out of rings so I'm having to take rings off the bottom of the shirt and move them to the sleeves. I was planning on shortening up the shirt anyhow, but it is still annoying having to do extra work. Still need to decide if I'm going to get more rings to make the shirt the length I originally wanted it, but with proper slits for the legs. Depends on how many rings the sleeves end up taking.
First world problems?
He's making himself his own armour. I am learning how to cook cabbage (successfully), broccoli (WIP), sprouts (TBA), and other such stuff. Also, my washing machine broke down, and I've learned how to wash bedsheets by hand! It is clear that this is a sign of the times, and I should be stocking up on bottle-caps and Nuka-Cola.

Nuka-Cola is an actual thing?

The US president wants to go to war with the Chinese, supported by his Brazilian understudy who is now treating a Chinese base in Argentina* as a conflict hypothesis, so I suspect that one day I played Fallout too much and it spilled out onto the world.

*a base which shouldn't even exist, but then Argentina's government is basically a bunch of venal Nazis

I'm trying to convince my wife of the need for a rifle that can be used for both hunting and combat. I have one picked out already and a local dealer just happens to have it in stock for about $200 less than its MSRP. If I can't convince her of the need for it, I'll just have to buy it and gaslight her into believing we always had it...

Rant: People who casually joke about child abuse.

Hmmm, no. Don't lie to your wife.

Talking about gaslighting your wife isn't at all funny. That's abuse.

Calm down Karen.

Moderator Action: Let's not be insulting by calling others names please. Thank you --LM

I won't. I'll just bargain with her. She wants a dog and I said no to it. So I can just use the "you can get a dog if I get my rifle" line to get what I want.

Why go for a rifle? When the crops fail and the population tops ten billion (sometime later this year) will you be able to find bullets and maintenance equipment for your rifle?
Take a page from the Dark Ages and get yourself a dane axe!

We have manufactured enough rifles and ammo that I shouldn't have a problem "acquiring" replacement parts and ammo for the duration of my post-apocalyptic lifespan.

NZ keeps getting in top 10 lists to survive the apocalypse. I've got a bow, not sure if it's still intact/where it is/safe to use etc.
