No, our fascists are too busy seizing power. Unlike yours, they just post on Reddit. And the commies? Man, don't get me started on the commies. They even get elected. Can you imagine that? I envy you, your "far-leftists" can't get beyond liking a picture on Facebook.

So this happened (belated rant)

On my way out to CA, we stopped in Amarillo, TX. There was record rain overnight and when I got up to go check on our stuff in the car, I walked out of the hotel and thought to myself, "I don't remember there being a river in front of the hotel". The streets were flooded because in TX, they don't believe in storm drains (the rain, while a lot for TX, was just an average storm for a place like MO).

Well we aren't heroes so we navigated around the flooded streets, avoiding water everywhere. There was an on-ramp we had to take to get on the highway and there was a 3 inch deep puddle on it. People were driving right through it, I've driven through deep water, so I wasn't concerned.

Well you see my Cadillac sits low to begin with and the air intake is under the car. So as soon as we hit the water, the bow wave kicked up and got sucked in the engine, killing it. We were stranded in Amarillo for 2 days trying to figure out what to do with the car.

We eventually rented a car and finished the drive to CA. There was then a series of stupid shenanigans on the part of our insurance company and it took 2 full months to get our car fixed. It was miserable and I had to ride to work with my roommate in his car. He was a great roommate but the absolute worst carpooler.

It was a miserable, awful two months. :(

So, that was the wrong way to Amarillo?

Definitely.

Also, the massive cattle yards outside of town make it smell like crap, especially when the wind changes direction.

I do not like Amarillo to say the least.

Bonus: Hotel concierges who like to espouse how the Army practice drills in TX means the US government is coming to take your guns and bibles!

Jade Helm is just the beginning! One day, Operation Jade Helm will be known in history books as the first step into the Mexican occupation of Texas.

One day!

Whoah, super intense bright and colourful psychadelic dreams holy batman!

After some super strong totally knocked out REM sleep around 5 am - 10 am, all the negative side effects disappeared. I was basically super sleep deprived all this time, and once I got the full knock out from mirtazipine, all the muscle pain and slight fever vanished.

I made it to the volunteer centre and also took a bus ride to Keighley to find out where the store I have an interview with in a few weeks time is, and to time the bus journey.

I take it Europe has fewer fascists and the far-leftists are less slacktivisty?

I only have experience with Germany. Fascism is practically illegal and the far-right in general is widely hated and so not as much of a threat, in large part because war guilt is a central pillar of German culture. The far-left there are mostly youths who actually think they can change the world by putting up "FCK NZS" stickers everywhere and occasionally mounting feeble demonstrations, so they're not much different. German politics are annoying, American politics are insane and dangerous.

Meanwhile, refugee shelters are being set on fire and entire towns have been taken over by Neonazis. The far right is a threat precisely because the government doesn't take them seriously as a threat and it is much different than the far left which usually doesn't kill or seriously injure people.

I heard of a fire, but entire towns? Source? Not that I don't believe you, I just haven't heard of that

It's been happening for quite a while, mostly in small towns in the east, and currently there is far more than just "a fire" going on.
I'm almost happy that right-wingers have recently started to attack the police. Nobody gave a crap about the NSU either when they were only killing Turks.

Where do I start?

My relationship ended unpleasantly. I highly resent and loathe being back in this country and at my school. And everywhere I look I see fascists and far-left slacktivists.

And there's not really much reason to come back here.

I'm sorry to hear that man. Breakups are hard.

I'm still trying to work out if a breakup that ends nastily with both parties severing ties completely is more preferable to a wishy-washy break that ends amicably albeit ambiguously and both parties remain some sort of friends.

It can be very hard to renegotiate a relationship, that's for sure. Amicably or otherwise.

Hmm. That's not good. Still nowhere near as dangerous as any kind of American right, but not as underground as I thought.

Thanks. I'm more bitter about it than sad, because I knew right from the beginning that this wouldn't last, but the way she did it is what pissed me off more than anything. I haven't totally severed ties--there's not much to gain from that--but I don't plan on talking to her again, either. This means I'll be stuck single for at least a few more years, most likely, but I didn't much care for how she treated me.

I've never had luck ending relationships on 'good' terms, may just be me though. But at least in my experience, someone ends up getting hurt.

Sorry to hear you're hurtin Phrossack.

The worst part is being back in this country. I want to go back to Germany already. This place isn't for me.

I've been stuck with with this programming problem for hours. And I have to solve it to just begin with more programming nonsense for an obligatory assignment
And on top of that there is so much more reading and task-solving I had this week that I haven't done and don't know if I can get done even if I work 18 hours tomorrow and sunday
Just two weeks into this semester and it seems I'm going to fail miserably

also programming sucks in general

Not that he ever had a chance of winning, but Ben Carson has officially been crossed off the list of candidates I'd consider voting for:

Retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson told the Dave Ramsey show on Wednesday that the Department of Veterans Affairs should be folded into the Department of Defense and VA facilities should only be used for specialized care like traumatic brain injuries and limb replacement procedures.

Screw you Carson. What about the thousands of veterans like me who rely on the VA for medical care for injuries we sustained while serving our nation? My injury doesn't fall under TBI or limb replacement, but that doesn't mean I'm in any less need of the care I get for my knee. You see, this is that attitude in the government I'm talking about. That attitude that once a soldier is done serving it's "thanks for your service, now f off."

Every time I read stories like this it builds up a little more motivation to gather some of my old Army buddies together and organize a political party with the goal of achieving a Starship Troopers type society.

BTW: I want it known that I don't make a habit of reading CNS news. The headline was just on my homepage so I clicked on it.

That's pretty sad to hear, I'd be pretty angry if I were a veteran. In general - not just with soldiers and veterans - but I think a lot of people are really dismissive about other people's medical issues if they aren't the "big" "obvious" ones you see on the news about people losing limbs or something. Some folks can't simply fathom the fact that you don't have to be in a wheelchair with both your legs amputated to be disabled or to have a medical condition that needs to be dealt with. Not to mention mental health issues, which, from what I heard, veterans often don't have that much help with (more so than normal people, who don't get enough help with that to begin with).

For the last 5+ years or so, I've had a ridiuclous number of recurring dreams where I'm in a hotel room in China. I have weed on me, and am trying to hide it along with the the bong I use (or vaporizer, in more recent dreams.;)) It's the weirdest thing and I can't explain it. I would swear I've had this dream at least 50 times now.
