Random Rants LXIX: Life is a Dismal Chore

You should see how miffed the AI gets in Civ II: ToT if I refuse to give them certain techs.

The Civ IV AI gets pissed at you for not declaring war whenever they ask you to.

That's just a -1 in relation, though. Not really downgrading two whole steps below :p

Meh. Let it. Sometimes the AI offers me monetary bribes to declare war against some enemy of theirs. Depending on how badly I might need money and how risky the additional requirement of an alliance with them is, I might accept. But I won't go along if they don't offer money. There's no profit in that.

If I want a war between myself and another civ, I just insult or harass them until they make the declaration.

My room mate has the mumps of all things. I have Friday off and I was planning to spend a nice quiet day around the house. Just a "me" day.

Looks like I'm babysitting. :(

Yikes. Have you had mumps yourself? It's absolute hell when you get it as an adult (I caught it in my final year of high school, and my dad caught it from me).

I lived on grape juice for two weeks; everything else just hurt too much.

That would be Magnanimous > Seething.
Hear me now and know evil printer... Our words are backed WITH NUCLEAR WEAPONS!!!

This comment is ironic, given our discussion on the NFL Ops Manual and lawyers in the other thread ;)

Man I really got under your skin with that whole thing didn't I? You usually aren't the type to carry things like that over into other unrelated discussions.

He is a lawyer. The only other thing I've seen him take from thread to thread is his hatred of dried fruit.

I have had them, but apparently you can get them again. I didn't know that. Seems the virus has mutated a little over the years.

C'mon buddy, I always make these kinds of observations...

That's fake news. Its not "dried fruit" just raisins... which are disgusting beyond belief... Total Disaster!

You can't spell Raisins without "sins"...raisins are worse than Hitler...

So now that we've moved my wife has to make the long commute and I'm worried about her every day. I get home and just wait in a state of partial panic. The 405 is brutal and has constant wrecks so it's not just idle worrying.

This 405? In LA? I've seen some nasty traffic and accidents on that road for sure. I once pulled a guy out of a burning car on the 405. I couldn't deal with a commute like that everyday.

If I was shown that picture without context, I'd assume it was an unconvincing photoshop by a European trying to express how much he thought America sucked.

So, the apartment rental office can eat a bag of dicks.

They messed up my last month payment and sent me a very confusing letter then with info on how my account was credited. I was under the impression that October rent was already covered because of that letter. Yesterday I got a cranky letter telling me my rent was late. Okay, fine, things get confused and missed in the process. I walked to the apartment office with a check for the rent, and the person there said I can't just give it to her, I have to mail it to corporate office. Okay, fine.
I put the check in the mail today at work because we have a post office at work thinking it would get processed faster over putting it in the drop box at the apartment. Got home and found a very angry letter threatening the beginning of legal proceedings unless I pay the rent and they will not accept checks or electronic payment after the 7th.
Since the apartment office closes after 5 (seriously, what use is the office when it closes before most people get back from work!?) I decided screw it and decided to use their online bill pay which has a $10 fee. It is before 8 so according to the disclaimer on the website it would get processed today. I would deal with the additional payment by check later. Go and submit all the information and payment information and get a message telling me that my payment will be applied to 10/10/17, which is NEXT MONTHS RENT.
I say [censor] this, and straight up call corporate headquarters and there is nobody to answer it despite their website saying they provide 24/7 customer service. Not even redirected to a Filipino call center.

I just got my grocery delivery. I'd had a call from the store, asking if I'd still take the bottles of milk that were dropped and the caps came off. I said no, I don't take milk unless everything is intact. When the delivery guy came (he's the store manager), I explained that I don't accept any food product that isn't fully intact. So then he piped up about the hole in the sack of cat food (which happened when he put a 12.7 kg box of cat litter on top of it) - would that still be okay? :ack:

WTH???! :wallbash:

No. HELL NO. I'm not feeding my cat food that's been contaminated with who-knows-what. And I also don't have anywhere safe to put a sack of cat food with a hole in it - that's asking for an invasion of bugs, not to mention the cat trying to get into it.

And then I found that some other things I'd ordered were missing. A call to the store to find out why resulted in a conversation where I was whined at that "we're really busy with customers, and we gave you what we had." :gripe:

Not acceptable. When she claimed she was "busy" I told her, "Yes, I know you're busy with a customer. Me. I'm a customer, too." I am so damned tired of that line that they're too busy to deal with a phone customer, as though only the people in the store are "real customers."

I leave instructions every single time I place an order that if they're sold out of something, I want to be called so I can decide what to do about it - make a substitution, ask for a rain check, or just not bother. In this case I'd have asked for a rain check if I'd known.

@Ajidica: My sympathies. After a really stressful kerfuffle with my rent cheques disappearing into who-knows-where of Canada Post, I pay in person, in the office, with my debit card. I get the receipt immediately, and it shows up in my online banking. They're trying to push people to do the rent via online banking only (not in person using debit cards), but I'm not going to do that unless there's no other way. It's not that I pay an extra fee to do this, it's the fact that I'm doing it in person, and have a chance to talk to the manager about any issues that come up (usually maintenance stuff or issues with other tenants).

Thats photoshopped right ?

Cat litter is made from recycled paper
And cat food is made from products not fit for human consumption.
The cat food would be fine, the hole though would be a problem
