And another rant: looks like I'll be hunting for a second hand low end PC for mom. Cheapest new computer I could get without being fatally crippled by combination of low RAM, 64GB hard drive and Windows 10 is about 250 Euro...and that's way too much for something that's not supposed to run much more than basic Office, movies, videos on the internet and Solitaire.

Windows 10 take a lot of RAM, if you want to run a computer with low RAM spec, consider using Windows 7 instead, IIRC it used 700mb while Windows 10 can used way more than 1 GB.

Every damn pre-built has Windoom 10 and can't get rid of it without voiding the warranty. The 64GB HDD and 4GB RAM with Win 10 that I see on all low-end configs are a scam to force people to upgrade, because it'll boot up damn long and be sluggish, and very soon run out of drive space during updating.

Otherwise I'd just get one without OS and slap Linux Mint on it like I did with her last, 50 EUR thing cobbled together (not by me) from second hand parts.

I am BEYOND anxious about the election. People posting polls and 538 articles about how far ahead Biden is (on here and on social media) just make me more anxious. There appears to be nothing that can fix this for me except the election actually happening.

I had a similar sense of anxiety about the 2016 election, though it was nowhere near as bad. I still remember my coworkers on our canvassing operation making fun of me on election night by saying Trump would win...they all thought Hillary had it in the bag, I was the only one worried.

Doesn't help that some Repubs are already workshopping the idea of just not leaving office. Trump saying he'll let the Supreme Court decide the election. Saying things like Biden shouldn't even be allowed to run. The GOP has set the stage for so much obfuscation.
