Well that's the worst part! If I notice it is starting to run slow and tell it to shut down. It just infinitely says "shutting down" on the screen and I still need to hard reset.

I'm noticing an irritating pattern with my tethered internet. Apparently, not only does it refuse to give me internet whenever the temp goes above 85 F, and even worse above 90 F, and also during thunderstorms, it eventually finally does connect -- but only when I am away from the computer. As soon as I come back, the internet goes down the drain again.
