Random Rants XLIV: I Can't Find The Answer

gaah, I thought I was a rather well educated surfer that wouldn't land on shady sites without knowing it first....so when I googled some random factoid and the results showed a german forum with an inconspicious name I didn't think anything about it...the thread was a bit strong for my tastes but not too horrible, so I decided to check out the rest of the forum.

At first glance it looks like a perfectly ok political discussion forum with all the subforums that you'd expect. German politics, International Politics, EU, Subfora for Swiss and Austrian politics, for discussions about social issues, the Grundgesetz, you name it...

so I looked a bit closer at the threads and posts....now I feel filthy :ack: Judging by the prevalent attitude in these posts the forum looks more than a german version of Stormfront than a neutral political forum...yuck

Just been out in the garden, making a nuisance of myself in the raspberry beds. It's unseasonably warm and things are beginning to break out in green growth when they shouldn't. This is bad news. As there's bound to be some freezing temperatures sometime in the next two or three months. Which will knock everything back again. Costing the plants some of their stores of food for next season's growth.

How long after something bad is ingested before you feel its effects? Because I'm trying to determine whether the iced coffee I had this afternoon, or the fruit juice I had last night, is the culprit behind my current stomach troubles.

You cannot really say that, since it depends on what the culprit is and where in the gut it is absorbed.

Absolutely sure now it's a hardware problem, probably more than just one.
I suspected that I need a new motherboard, now I know. The boot problems -which I tried to fix in several ways, none of which worked- indicate I'll need a new hard drive too. It seems like every day another piece of hardware fails and I can count myself lucky if my power supply doesn't spontaneously explode.

Doesn't sound like you need a new motherboard, but rather a totally new machine.

I have the feeling I know which forum you mean...

Good point. They can't arrest the users? Oh wait, you guys have real privacy laws that would stop the government from ever knowing they use the site.

Hee hee. Perhaps once I've finished studying. :p

Is it that well known?
If it's not hosted here, and doesn't have a .de domain, then what to do :dunno:?
it has a .net domain and is apparently hosted in Australia

Privacy laws don't protect against criminal prosecution. If the site was hosted in germany and illegal content was posted there, the police could get the IPs of the users from the forum provider and then get the Ids from these IPs from their providers..but since the site isn't hosted there they can't and a foreign provider won't hand out IP data for stuff that's not illegal in that country.

Is it that well known?

Depends on if we mean the same....er...wait...*checking* no, seems not so, the one I meant was apparently brought down in the middle of 2012. At least wikipedia says that :dunno:. But well...the internet...there are thousands of them...

I debated a friend in class today. We went away and prepared a speech for ten minutes (the resolution was "smoking should not be regulated by the government"). Back in class, I told everyone the resolution, only the friend I was debating interrupted me halfway - apparently I had not written the "not" on my paper, while she had, so the conclusion we reached was that we accidentally prepared the same argument, and the teacher said we'd have to go another day.

All my fault.

Back at my seat, I went through my preparations, and found out that regardless of what I had written the resolution was, I had still argued for the affirmative for the REAL resolution, which was exactly what I was supposed to. So me and my friend could still debate! Unfortunately, my realization was too late, so the teacher wouldn't let us debate because another pair was getting ready. So much wasted opportunity; and more than that, embarrassment!

I'm pretty stupid sometimes.

Not really, your friend confused you with her mistake at a critical moment. Totally her fault :)
