Today I just got a lesson in the tensile strength of an agarose gel. It's much less than polyacrylamide, which already breaks easily enough as it is. There goes 2 lab periods of work, seeing how unlikely a gel in such a condition will be amenable to membrane transfers. To make it worse, another group's samples were on the same gel. And we both need it for a lab report. At least the PCR went okay.
