Random Rants XV: Like a Fine Whine

Well, at least you did well in one. I took a Physics and a Chemistry exam last week and I reckon I did horrible in both :(

I think as a general rule, science exams suck. Did other people do bad too?

The good news is that I've already appealed against the one I think it did pretty bad in (the marker described the whole grade's work as fitting into three categories- atrocious, bad and reasonable. So I guess everyone's screwed). My whole class was disadvantaged, so we all appealed, leading to the most dramatic piece of school politics I've ever witnessed, culminating in the dismissal of our course co-ordinator (as course co-ordinator), and a new English head teacher. My class was about to be lynched by the rest of the grade when the head teacher threatened to rerun the whole task if we didn't withdraw our appeals, before the principal intervened and sent the appeals to the Assessment Committee- without a rerun of the task.

So, the point of that enthralling story is that even if I do do badly in that, I suppose I might end up getting a couple of extra marks, so all hope is not lost. Quite.

Can I ask how you were disadvantaged?

It's complicated, but I'll try to explain.

It was a listening task, officially, as the Board of Studies mandates that 15% of Advanced English internal assessment has to be in the form of a listening task. But, my school, in order to better prepare us for the HSC, goes with the bare minimum requirements for a listening task, and gave us an essay question. So, we were told beforehand what we would be listening to an excerpt from (it was a speech we were studying), they just didn't tell us which section of the speech. We had to, in our essay, refer to the section of the speech that we listened to, as well as the remainder of the speech, and one other speech of our own choosing, that we had been studying.

So, we went into the exam knowing the speech that we had to write about, but not knowing what section of the speech in particular we had to write about. When we went to do the task, we sat down and had the exam paper in front of us, with a yellow piece of paper beside it. My class was told that we could not open up the exam paper, and had to place the yellow paper on top of the exam paper, so as that we couldn't see the cover. Other classes did not have to do this (every class was in a separate room). Then, the listening excerpt started. Other classes were instructed at this time to open up their exam booklets, revealing to them the question, and a transcript of what was being read out. We, in the meantime, were not aware of the existence of a transcript, and were unaware of the question, for the duration of the listening excerpt (~5 minutes). This meant that whilst we were furiously taking down notes (on our yellow unmarked paper) on what was being said, unaware of the question, others were planning their essays, annotating their transcripts, etc., not having to pay attention to the what was being read, confident in the fact that a transcript was present.

So, basically, everyone else got 5 minutes extra. Which, in a 45 minute essay, is reasonably significant.

I have no more reasons to rant, seeing I'm on "Tolerate his existence, just stay the hell away from him" terms with the bully and now am over my now ex-crush. Plus, my cold seems to have gotten a lot better.

And this is a rant?

Meeting with an ex for coffee (I have a weakspot for her) while I'm engaged otherwise. Dumbest thing I will do in a while I'm sure. Technically I'm just supposed to help her psychologically but I'm quite sure it could end up in fornication and adultery. Thus it will make me an immoral bastard and hurt the current gf who though not the sharpest knife in the drawer is still a good girl. Not that I feel anything towards her, but still she doesnt deserve this. :yuck:

Sometimes I wish I was a Vulcan and not just partially emotionally ******** like I am usually.

I just saw on yahoo news that my favorite restaurant chain (Perkins) may go belly up. :(

It sucks, 'cuz they have good pies, IMO.

Necro after necro after necro...

:yup::agree:

Perkins... never heard of them. :(
Perkins is a restaurant based mostly in the Midwest of the USA.

I couldn't find a map of all the exact locations of every single Perkins restaurant in the world. :(

EDIT: Another rant: My butt hurts. I'm up north in a cramped trailer sitting on a bean bag chair. I can't wait to get home and sit on an actual chair.

I called in to get more hours for work and I have no extra hours for the week. :(

Well that was weird, in about 36 hours I went from being fairly popular, well-liked and generally pleasant company within the flat (I got over most of the things I was ranting about) to essentially becoming persona non grata inadvertently turning everyone in the flat against me- and I have no idea how I did it!

what makes it all the more frustrating is that early last week everything was fine and we were all getting on like a bunch of good friends (which after a year living with each other I suppose we should be, either that or implacable enemies) and now for the third time since Saturday everyone has just gone out on a sort of flat outing and not invited me, or even told me they're going, just ignored me and pretended I'm not there; even if they'd gone up to be and said "We're all going out and you're not, sucks to be you" it'd be better than just sneaking off- it's like I constantly need to remind them I exist.

This, amongst many other things is why I believed I messed up my first year at Uni, I have an imagine in my mind of where I should be right now, and I compare it where I am now and the comparison is more than a little depressing

Sorry to bore you all with my uni problems which, let's face it, don't really mount to a huge pile of beans- just need somewhere to air out my grievances and what better place than here?

@Camikaze

... that's rather miserable. I won't say that I fell asleep in two exams and got between 90 and 100% for both :p

This delayed shuttle launch is going to screw with my sleep schedule :mad:

Thou must explainth.

Well I work there and thus can get really close for launch, but Wednesday at an ungodly hour? I'm not sure I could handle going into work that early, being my lazy self...even if it is one of the last shuttle launches we'll see.
