It means "time flies". Carpe diem, OTOH, I don't know what that means.

Tempus - time
Fugit - it flees, it flies, it runs away


Carpe - pluck, take, make use of.
Diem - day (as the object of the sentence, of course)

(The usual translation of "seize the day" isn't great, and most of the many take offs of the make no sense.)

I mean stuff like De mortuis nil nisi bonum.

De - about
mortuis - the dead (in the ablative plural)
nil - nothing
nisi - if not
bonum - good

I assume some verb (or maybe gerundive) to the effect of "say" was originally included or at least implied, so this basically means "don't speak ill of the dead."

Yeah, that seems right; I suspected a gerundive. The aphorism is thus literally: "about the dead, nothing if not good is to be said."

Did you remove the program "Bonjour"? that could do it. (I did it, once, back in the day, when I was cleaning up my computer, and didn't recognize it. and then I had to reinstall Itunes when it wouldn't open.
