Westminster council may give employed housing priority

People in employment could be given priority in getting a council house over those who are unemployed, Westminster council has said.

The Conservative-run council said the policy was designed "to reward those who are in jobs".

But Labour councillor Guthrie McKie said: "To discriminate against people for being unemployed is disgusting."

A decision on the proposals will be made in February. If approved, plans will be implemented by April.

The council said the proposal was "designed to recognise positive contributions to society, reward those who are in jobs and to encourage those who are not currently employed to seek work".

'Political ideology'

Under the council's plans, working households will be defined as those where the main applicant or their partner are in work, have a permanent or temporary contract or are self-employed.

People who would be prioritised must have been working for a minimum of two years.

But Mr McKie said: "I don't think its a good policy.

"There should be a level playing field. We are in a climate of unemployment increasing.

"This policy is driven by political ideology, not the need to resolve problems with social cohesion in the region."

Westminster cabinet member for housing, Councillor Philippa Roe, said: "We want to introduce a system which is fairer to local people and rewards those in employment.

So according to the Tories the unemployed are simply not seeking work.

I've now been at my work for longer than anyone else except the delivery driver (I'm up to my third boss, all the chefs and other waiters have started since me). This is a rant because there is no real monetary benefit due to this fact.

Also, the chef that spoke the best English left.

And tonight didn't start off too well. I was thirsty, so I went to get a drink of water, and opened the bar fridge door onto the glass I was holding, cracking it. So I chucked that out, grabbed a new glass, and it went flying across the bar, smashing on the floor. I was only wanting a glass of water...

On every youtube video of someone from Norway accomplishing anything, theres always loads of people commenting "Makes me proud to be Norwegian" and i think thats embarresing, pointless and it annoys me!

Also, Bruno Marsh sucks. Catch the damn grenade already!.

So I went to sleep at 7:00 AM today and woke up at 3:00 (15:00) PM.

Now, I went to take a shower, and out of the 5 shower heads or so our dorm has (our showers are really bad; it's like gym showers, with just curtains between the showers) the only 2 that have warm water were taken. And there were like 5 other guys kind of waiting around for those shower heads (they were in they're towels, etc).

Who are these people? This was a special event for me since it was a special all-night party with my starcraft club to play/watch starcraft all night long (major korean stuff happened last night) but who are these people that apparently EVERY friday party and then wake up at 3:00 PM?

I don't understand what other people do at "normal" parties anyways. Sure, you can say "drink" but WTH does that mean? Play beer pong? (surely that can't last a whole night)? Drunkenly stammer around to ihop or waffle house? And how do you "party" from 8PM-4AM on a normal basis?

The same starcraft event during the fall semester we went to waffle house at like 4:00 AM and it was overstuffed. WTH do other people actually *do* on these friday/saturday nights?
