I bought a new CPU for 50 bucks (yeah, that's right) and it's oh so significantly better than the one the PC came with. the stock cooler is also incredibly good, it's inaudible and the CPU never gets hot. I'm gonna give this PC to my girlfriend and I couldn't stop modifying it until everything was perfect. I think I'm almost there. It's a Ryzen 3 1200, not a good CPU by all means and already 2 years old, but that's totally enough and I'm really happy I didn't spend 250 on a newer one and damaged the sockets or something, that'd be so much money down the drain. I figured if I screwed up the 50€ CPU that's a pretty good signal to stop trying to build my own PC. But it worked :)

Well, in theory maybe, but in reality even if a state repealed its minimum wage law entirely the federal minimum wage would still apply (actually, many states do not bother with their own minimum wage and simply use the federal minimum wage as a default).

In this case, the law it is referring to that was to be "gutted" was actually a minimum wage increase over the next five years, so it would have essentially severely delayed or canceled entirely the scheduled increase to $15/hr by 2024.
 
But without inflation then a de facto freeze on salaries is, in practice, a salary reduction.
 
In Nova Scotia there were businesses crying because the government increased the minimum wage by ten cents. :dubious:
 
Both of my friends who I thought had ghosted me have resumed contact. One friend was in rehab for her alcohol addiction and got a new phone, and the other went through a messy divorce. I still wish both had let me know before disappearing, but I'm really glad both are okay now and still want to be friends.

I added another piece to my bug-out bag. A while back, a company I worked for powered these kiosk-type work stations with banks of industrial-sized Lithium Ion batteries. They eventually got rid of the kiosks and tossed the batteries and I picked up a couple. I always intended them to be portable emergency batteries for powering our phones and other gadgets should we have to evacuate due to fires or earthquakes but I had stashed them in a closet where I couldn't easily get to them. With the move, I made an effort to keep them near the actual bug-out bag (with food and first aid) and to top off their charge. They can only power things via USB but I only wanted it to run our phones off the power grid for a few days so they'll do just fine. They're too big to fit in the bag full of food but that bag itself is small so I think I'm going to put all of it in a larger backpack we only use for hiking and beach trips. The less individual things you have to grab on your way out, the more effective it is as a kit.

Is there any chance they can start a fire while in your closet?

The electrician finally came to my house, and he was super nice (super cute too, almost @Snerk level) He fixed everything really quickly, and he said it was pretty much the most simple thing it could be, so it didn't cost too much. Arya was really being friendly with him, and while he was writing up my invoice she jumped up on the counter and started licking his face. He had to call to process my credit card, and said to the person at his office that he has "the friendliest cat in the world here."
 
I....misread that post really badly. :dubious:

I miss my kitties now :( But (rave) i get to see them in 8 days!!!!

It's interesting how the strip only includes a woman executive in the very last and chronologically most recent frame, and she only gets there by being a man, but not quite in the same way as Katharine Hepburn did.
