After I got positive feedback from my story in the Balseraph history thread concerning Perpentach's sleeping habits, I took to writing down my mini-stories on Erebus. Now I've finally decided to post them for your amusment, criticism, et cetera. As ever, nothing is canon; think of it as what could be, not what is.

If you've got some stories lying around, feel free to post them here as well.

Mega-edit: I'm converting this OP into an index. Currently under construction. I'll start by linking to places that are either buried, or not on this particular thread, that I can think of off the top of my head. If I miss a thread or some such, I'll be sure to amend that. At this point in time, it is very, very far from complete. I reserve the right to title untitled stories according to my whims. Edit the post if you'd like it changed. Odds are you can think of a better title than I can.

Nice. Personnally I had some small problems with certain parts - but I don't even remember what it was after the whole missionary story, maybe I'll give specific criticism later, but for now, good job! Now to fill out the erebusolopedia!

Great! It was a really nice read. One question though: what's that crystal thing the Order priest used?

    Excellent pieces! :goodjob:
All are great, but the ones related to Balseraphs, including the one about sleeping Perpentach, are really masterpieces.

The Unyielding Order spell, good representation of that by the way. I really liked Converting the Dovellio story, the last one was disturbing! But really well written. Obviously there are a handful of holes with the canon, but you said as much, so it's fine. Good writing I look forward to anymore you do, keep posting them!

Good work KC! A Balseraph family? I doubt that kid's father is his real Dad.

Whenever I picture Jubilee in my mind's eye, it always seems more Octopus Overlords than AV to me.

You should follow up with more stories about the Carnival.

This particular story came from an AV Balseraph game I was playing. Also, I'm not so good at imagining OO rulership, since I have little to no knowledge of the Cthulhu mythos. But bloodthirsty demon-worship I can do.

Funnily enough, I'm thinking I might take another look at Lasur's grotesquely dysfunctional family, maybe from "Mommy's" perspective. I'd started the last story only intending to do Lovio's part, but the other two sort of formed themselves and I couldn't help but write them down.

@MacGyverInSpace: You mentioned specific criticisms. I look forward to them... with a bit of fear, perhaps.
@Tyrs: Just out of curiosity, did I miss any holes? I know that the Prior in the first story might be impossible in the Order, the Balseraphs are usually seen as OO worshippers (as our resident Ambassador pointed out), and converting the Doviello to the Empyrean is a bit out of flavor. There might also be geography issues in the bit about the Mistform, as it implies the Svartalfar and Bannor are neighbors. But those are the only ones I can think of, especially as the Mistform's form and actual ground-level effects of Unyielding Order are, to the best of my knowledge undefined in canon.

    This is great! Really great!
Like in true FfH spirit, they all seem as close to reality as a fantasy can be.

The actual Balseraph Religion is the Stewards of Inequity, which worships Mammon. This religion is very similar to and has close ties with the Council of Esus, but is less violent. It is more concerned with swindling people out of their hard earned money rather than killing. Most worshipers of Mammon don't realize they serve him, and he prefers it this way. They serve him best by mercilessly serving their own avarice, but there are also rituals that honor him performed in many guilds. I see them as the financiers of the Undercouncil. I consider Esus to be the closest ally of Mammon, and so CoE is probably the most fitting religion for the Balseraphs.

OO probably fits quite well too though, especially since the overlords are greatly influenced (but not controlled) by Mammon's archangel, Hastur, the Lord of Nightmares.

AV doesn't fit Perpentach very well, but it thematically most appropriate for Keeyln. She was, after all, raised by summoned demons. And her mother was Sheaim. AV is also somewhat tied to Hastur; it is strongly implied that Hastur is the father of Mardero.

I have always felt that religion in general is kinda goofy for the Balseraph because I would think most of them would simply worship Perpentach himself.

Anyway, KC, how about opening your thread to let others post their own stories?

Sounds good. I don't think we have a miscellaneous (sp?) thread for that sort of thing. I'll edit the OP for good measure.

Probably my Christian background coming out in me, but I really love "Converting the Doviello" -- as you said, Empyrean Doviello doesn't make much sense, but that's a very plausible way of it coming about.

    The Princess Rule:
    Spoiler :
"What are you more scared of? The Balseraphs or the Ljosalfar?" Orsen asked his friend, Mikal. "Well," Mikal said, "The Balseraphs are, at least supposedly, on our side. But those rituals they do give me the creeps. And those strange, noisy weapons... I don't care what our battlemage says about 'chemicals' and 'powders' and dwarvish contraptions, I say they're dark magic. I understand the Elves. They want forests, we want cities, but there's only enough room for one. But I'll never understand the Balseraphs." Orsen agreed. "And mark my words," he added, "once the Elves are gone they'll turn on us."
The Kuriotate scouts had been sent into the thick forests to seek out any Ljosalfar encampents. The forests were thick and wild. Animals were waiting in ambush for the unwary, and after that Balseraph regiment had been wiped out by a treant, they and the Kuriotates were constantly bickering about who would be going first.
"Look at that... I think there's a clearing up..." Mikal suddenly stopped, and then, made two motions. "Be quiet" and "come here." Orsen followed carefully. There was indeed a clearing. And what was in it was... impossible.
"I thought they were myths..." Orsen whispered. "Might be a trap, though. Or it might be vicious... you can never tell in these woods..." Mikal shook his head. "Can't you feel it... that aura of truth and love? One of Sirona's creatures, surely... peace in living form. It's wonderful."
A unicorn. The friends stood in silent awe for several seconds afterwards. Then, cautiously, Mikal left the brush and approached it. The peaceful creature turned, unconcerned towards Mikal, but made no aggresive moves. Mikal slowly approached, his hands outstretched...
An explosion rang out. The unicorn's head flew clean off, and the Kuriotates heard a shrill cry of "Boom-shaka-laka! Dinnertime, boys!" They gaped in shock as a small pack of Balseraphs, grinning insanely and wielding their mysterious, horrifying weapons leapt out to examine the unicorn's corpse. "Start up a fire, ladies! I love me some horse meat. And whatever the hell is growing outta this thing's head, I'm sure it'll look really nice on my mantle! Shiny bits for the win!" The leader of the Balseraph soldiers cut off the unicorn's horn from the bit of head that it was stuck to and placed it in one of the few pockets on his coat not already overstuffed with baubles and trinkets.
Only then did he notice Mikal and Orsen. "Oi, Kuriotates! Was that your horse? If so, sorry 'bout that but you shouldn't let the thing loose and unsaddled. We were hungry, after all!" Mikal barely manage to shake his head. "No, it wasn't yours? Good to hear! Some treehugger is doubtless wondering what happened to his mount-slash-lover right now. He'll get over it... when we blow his brain to bits, that is!" The Balseraph cackled insanely at the image of some Ljoslfar's head being blasted to pieces. "There's enough horsemeat for all of us, by the way, and one of our new recruits cooks horse meat real good. Worked in the stables, 'disposing' of horses that lost too many races. Care for some?"
Still unable to believe what they had just witnessed, Mikal and Orsen again shook their heads and walked off. "Suit yourselves," the Balseraph yelled. "Yeesh," he added to his mates, "they looked miserable. Poor suckers. Ah well, not my problem." And with that, the small Balseraph squad sat down to enjoy the only unicorn on Erebus, cooked medium rare.

AH, YOU'RE THAT UNICORN. YOU SURVIVED TWO HOURS... A NEW RECORD. "What happened to me?" THE BALSERAPHS WERE HUNGRY. THEY SAW YOU AND DECIDED TO EAT YOU. "Who are you?" DEATH. "Then I'm... dead? Why would they kill me?" I ALREADY SAID, THEY WERE HUNGRY. THERE'S ALSO THE PRINCESS RULE. IT'S HARD TO EXPLAIN, BUT BASICALLY IT MEANS CUDDLY THINGS DIE QUICKLY HERE. ONLY EXCEPTION IS PENGUINS... THEY'RE PROTECTED BY AN OBSCURE LOOPHOLE IN THE COMPACT. JUST BE GLAD YOUR DEATH WAS QUICK AND PAINLESS. THE BALSERAPHS WERE TOO HUNGRY TO GET... CREATIVE. "Who would eat a unicorn?" THE BALSERAPHS. TRUST ME, THEY'VE DONE WORSE. "But I was sent to bring peace and hope!" WHERE FROM? "Far, far away..." SOMEWHERE WITH HAPPILY EVER AFTERS? "Yes..." WELCOME TO EREBUS. THERE AREN'T MANY OF THOSE HERE. "What is the Angel of Hope doing? He should be making sure people live happily ever after, that every Princess finds her Prince Charming..." HE IS PRESENTLY PLANNING THE SLAUGHTER AND DAMNATION OF EVERY MAN, WOMAN, AND CHILD IN THIS UNIVERSE, TO AVENGE A PETTY AND CHILDISH GRUDGE WITH THE ONE. "What sort of place is this, where madmen eat unicorns, happily ever afters don't happen, and even angels fall from heaven?" AN INTERESTING ONE.

Not sure where I came up with this one. It's pretty much parody, and I didn't make the slightest effort to consider lore/canon, so don't kill me. Although I do suspsect that if a unicorn somehow ended up in Erebus, it would likely end up eaten.
I think I might have put too much effort into Death's bit at the end, but I could not resist a Discworld-style ending.

KC: you should try writing some pedia entries and get some stories put in the game. this stuff is pretty good.

That must be a nice domain that strange white one-horned thing is residing now in Arawns Vault... (which as we know is DEATH in Erebus.)

Thanks for that story. Was a real good laugh.

Perhaps should go as a pedia entry into game concepts as "the princess rule"? Whould perhaps help some interested players grasping that concept (Im serious. :)).

    Kael?
