I have conflicting feelings about Pearl Jam being inducted into the Hall of Fame. On the one hand, they totally deserve it. On the other hand, it's making me feel old. '91 or '92, I went to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers at a local university's hockey arena, and they'd brought a couple of West Coast bands nobody around me had even heard of yet. Pearl Jam blew the roof off the place, one of those shows where an opening act had a better night than the headliners (the other opening act was Smashing Pumpkins).
The DD-214 is the form that officially discharges one from the military in the US. It is the form that tells everyone you are no longer property of the United States federal government and are your own person again.
Yes, all discharges get a DD-214 and there is a block on there that says what kind of discharge you got. Mine was honorable, which just about every soldier gets as long as they don't monumentally screw up.
And I was discharged in 2011, but I was waxing nostalgic with an army buddy and we were joking about how the feeling of joy when a soldier gets their DD-214 must be similar to how slaves felt when they got their "freedom papers". That's what brought on my post.
