If you actively try to listen to the white noise it will fade to background much faster. Your mind will get bored and reject it.
Yeah, I have been practicing this skill. My mind still very much desires absolute quietness as background noise. With exceptions I am trying to exploit for the purpose of white noise machine usage
Was able to fall asleep to the sound of a river last night. Tonight I am setting it to a louder volume. The only problem is that at times it makes me wonder whether it's a good idea on the account on actual water sounding exactly the same, so if my bedroom was getting wet for some reason, my mind would be rejecting the noise and I could die or at least get wet.. so I have to figure out how to train my mind to not every once in a while say "HEY BY THE WAY THAT SOUNDS LIKE WATER, WE SHOULD CHECK IT OUT"
