I have a Twitter account that I just use to follow some stuff that interests me. For some reason my browser logged me out of most sites, so I go on Twitter again to log in, and the very first thing I see as a not logged-in dude is an AfD post how we should copy Austria a bit more on dehumanizing asylum seekers.
Yeah, I think I'm not going to use the site for a while.
Silicon Valley is really just a hive scum, greed and villainy.

Are you saying that something weird is going on with your Twitter account? I had to nuke mine, since it got hacked and I was suddenly following hundreds of music groups I never heard of before.

I think it was browser update or something. I got logged out on youtube, twitter and I think on this forum. That twitters promotes far-right propaganda isn't that unusual which is why I've to really dislike the platform.

Well, it's the very first thing it showed me when I went to the site as a potential new user. Yesterday and today.
Also, I follow Die Linke and SPD on Twitter, but the only campaign ads I saw on the site during the election were for AfD.
Maybe someone just got a lot of money from somewhere for a social media campaign, and someone else doesn't care about anything but money.

Well, I just made a new account just to see what happens, clicked Politics -> German something something as my preferences, and Twitter is suggesting to me:

A ton of official government agencies, then a list of Turkish people (I guess it knows exactly the part of the city where I live 8)), Bushido and some other Musicians... FC Bayern München.. Veltins...

I just clicked 'Follow and Continue'.

Now, I don't know what the Turkish people in my timeline say, but aside from a few SPD-related posts, I don't see much about politics.

If I go into the Politik Hashtag, I see a lot of posts from left-wing people, ironically including this one:

"Die angekündigte Enteignung von Flüchtlingen in Österreich ist ein neuer Tiefpunkt der Menschlichkeit gegenüber Schutzsuchenden. Eine Schande für die Christdemokratische Parteienfamilie in Europa!"

In the middle I see a post from an official AfD Account, but it's not very controversial and has like... 10 times more likes than every other post there, so I'd expect it to be there.

As I scroll further through the top posts of the hashtag I do see some pro-AfD, anti-Immigration posts, but they're outnumbered - and heavily so - by posts that are clearly not in agreement with them.

So my new account - from somebody who is almost literally "new to twitter" as I only have a fake account so I can read the "posts and replies"-tab - doesn't really share the experience you made. I think it's either just bad luck, or selective perception.

Sort of like children, so as long as I don't have to have them around me, they can continue to exist I guess.
