Rasist Cake

...I think this is actually more shocking to me. How could the cake designer think this was appropriate for highlighting female circumcision?

the alternative for a male performance artist to putting his head on a cake and getting the minister to make the sybolic cut would probaly be dressing in drag and getting the minister to make the cut... he is no Van Gogh, who most likely would have chosen to put more of himself into his art...

I envy the National Association for African Swedes, if this is the kind of stuff that troubles them most.

They just know how to win hearts and minds over to realize how serious an issue racial discrimination is, don't they?

...and now the question: Where was the cake cut at first?

Just where it should be. It was then fed to the screaming artist by the minister.

Everyone involved in this are idiots and should resign/quit/get a real job, including the afroswedish association.

The National Association for African Swedes have managed to simultaneously divert attention away from the tragedy of Female Genital Mutilation and attract attention to their own inability to understand the serious problems in the countries that many African Swedes have emigrated from. Bra-frackin-vo.

P.S. I don't know if this is entirely appropriate, but I'm seriously craving cake right now. Black forest gateaux...... mmmmmmm

Considering the fact that the cake's designer was black, I doubt it should be called racist.

That's tricky only in the word usage. A black European can be bigoted to an African. And the words racist and bigot are used interchangeably by a lot of people. But in the end we all know what was meant.

And I disagree that a black European can't be a bigot/racist to a African.

That said, people will out right lie over the silliest of thing to score political points. So unless you can show me that this lady is some member of the KKK or something, I'm going to see this for what it is, Art.

The character is used to express racist views, but I don't think the work itself is especially racist.

Even if the cake wasn't done with any bad intentions, the baker shouldn't have gone for such a blatantly stereotypical design.

Just where it should be. It was then fed to the screaming artist by the minister.

The video which depicts the swedish minister preforming female genital mutilation on a screaming caricature of an african women.

Holy...I first thought, without the vid, that it was a joke.

Everyone involved in this are idiots and should resign/quit/get a real job, including the afroswedish association.

Oh, damn yes.

...I think this is actually more shocking to me. How could the cake designer think this was appropriate for highlighting female circumcision?

Well, the cake was only from the waist up...

Edit: wait, ew, no. I'm wrong. Yuck.

Still the whole story is stupid.

Oh God, that video makes everything worse by magnitudes. How could they think actually performing a circumcision, even if its only on a cake, would get across that circumcision is a bad thing? This is stupid on so many levels.

Eh, so it seems people saw something offensive that involves a black character and thus = racist. Which of course is not at all logical. In fact assuming any offensive image involving a black character is racist is itself racist.

This is just offensive. It would be like having a cake at the Holocaust Museum opening displaying a Jew in pinstripe/Star of David tagged pajamas and then covering it with a cake cover and blowing cigarette smoke into it. Or maybe drowning it in burning liqueur before serving. Would that be on topic? Sure. Would the theatrics somewhat relate to the atrocity being highlighted? Yep. Is it a completely gross and offensive way to go about those things? Yep.

So I put this down as a mistake in judgment, but not racist.

Wow, that was creepy. But I guess that's the point.

According to Radio Sweden, the museum said the cake was supposed to highlight the issue of female circumcision.....

Shouldn't the cake have been of a different "area", and not the head then?
