Fix it I think. Really makes little sense.

Votes held in reserve as always. :3

CF you dont have many choices in coalition members, especially not ones that will let you be president...nothing against you, but i dont think anyone would really trust voting for you, who is still a relative unknown in policies compared to the rest of us who ahve been here longer, when far more trustworthy candidates are ready to go.

Its ok LH, although i think that most admins will proibably ask you to fix it. I think that explains why the silver star is in the german city as well, it happened when LH changed their capitals.

I would have thought we would have noticed it before this though.

Three golden ages? If one was started by the Taj, and one was started by a GP, that means the third was started by two GPs, right? I can't help but think there could have been better uses for those two...but what has happened has happened and the GAs have certainly helped.

Yes, the second Golden Age was triggered by two Great People: A Prophet we just got, and our Spy. We really didn't have much use for the Prophet beyond settling at this point, and I felt that the utility in having our Spy wander around was diminishing, so it seemed like another shot in the arm for our empire was the best move.

Here's the shot of London and Rome from the start of the set:

Spoiler :

London clearly has the Palace, but Rome has the gold star. I dunno. Just thought I'd point it out.

Edit: I wouldn't make any assumptions about Fargle's candidacy. If I recall correctly (I may recall incorrectly), I won my first term before I had been here very long. Besides, it's ideas that matter, not seniority.

Oh, god, election time. I'll PM some people coalition offers and such tomorrow after school.

Wow that has to have been one of the fastest Terms in office. Bravo!

Golden Age 1 = Great Prophet
Golden Age 2 = Great Prophet + Great Spy
Golden Age 3 = Taj

Perfect way to get the economy back on track. But yes the Rome Captial mix up is most likely a WB error.

We get Red Coats pretty soon, We don't have cannons but if we trade Engineering of Fredrick then we will have good enough siege to be able to rule military wise for awhile. Thus my view would be that the next President should build up for a war then upgrade and draft so that the NEXT president after that can launch a strike against our foes.

(Note: I still support a precision strike, Viking weak spot is the green lands of sweden and Russian Weakness is the holy city with gold supporting the empire.)

-

Captain Fargle, you expressed your desire to get back Ireland ASAP what would be your war plan for this? Plus what would be your plans for the two new Great people.

Whosit, Congratulations on a mostly peaceful term, you lucky dog. You thinking of running again or taking a step back for awhile? Is the Aegis staying together?

Patriots, We held together during Aegis mark II so we should be fine unless someone has anything that has bothered them? Please state any opinions and desires for the next turn-set here or in PM.

Ireland is difficult for the Russians to defend. Very difficult. Being so far away from their homeland and on a small island right next to us...... I estimate we can take it without too much trouble. Just send some troops across and attack.

As for the great people, I would send the Great Merchant on a Trade Mission to Seoul. Either that or put him on a boat and send him to Washington. Either one would net us a very large sum of gold which would pay for an awful lot in the future.

The Great Scientist would depend on what he can bulb. If nothing useful then build an Academy. Academy's are nice.

Here are some issues to promote discussion and to highlight your personal views and those within parties and coalitions.

They are basic summaries and shouldn't be taken as multiple choice. This is just to see what everyone thinks and who natural allies are. Remember the election ends Saturday.

Tech path options
Spoiler :

Civic: Go for constitution and Democracy. Getting Representation and risking the Statue of Liberty could make all territory in Euroasia pay for itself.

Exploration: Get optics and explore the globe. The Carvels would allow us to spy on neighbours while transporting missionaries around the world. Getting to Galleons would mean the American Super Continent would be ours to plunder.

Science: Going for scientific techs would obsolete monasteries. The pay off is more potential Great People for getting their first and a variety of extras from Airships to the Merchant food Corporations.

Industrialism: Going for steel would allow us to be artillery kings. The Railroad would allow us to fight and reinforce a land war in Asia. We would also have to go through Chemistry getting us the most powerful ships on the sea. The drawback is that we would be overspecializing and could loose our sudden tech advantage.

Great People
Spoiler :
Settle: If we get Constitution soon and the civic representation then settled these GPs could do a lot of good.

Tech: Not sure what the techs are but we are advanced enough now that they won't be one shots and will only get us halfway there. Worthwhile?

Academy & Trade Mission: Increases what we have. The Academy would be a good boost in our top research city while the trade mission would get us some quick money to upgrade all the troops.

Keep: Could be kept for a 3GP golden age or for founding a Corporation as we are getting close to some of them allready.

Foriegn Policy
Spoiler :
Reclaim our island: War ASAP. We take back the isles now and fight a holding action in the east moving forward slowly.

Peace: We stay as we are and try to gain influence, build colonies, spread religion.

Survival of the Fittest: Take out a weaker nation for an easy war and perhaps to train the troops. Carthage, Egypt and America are the weakest none-vassals.

Surgical Strike: Build up and only launch a strike when the first assault will cripple our greatest European Threats.

Interior Policy
Spoiler :
To complicated to list everything possible, so current highlighted troubles are below.

Health of the Nation: Currently most of our cities are unhealthy. How should this be cured?

Religion: The Matter of Free Religion has been raised and that not all English cities are Christian. What should be done?

Vassals: Germany is second to last in score. He is better then America. He also can tech partially well and has Engineering to trade. Khan of Ireland on the other hand is a broken man. With his lands under occupation.

Troops vs Infrastructure: What should be concentrated on?

Whosit, Congratulations on a mostly peaceful term, you lucky dog. You thinking of running again or taking a step back for awhile? Is the Aegis staying together?

Somehow I imagine I wouldn't have much chance in this election if I planned to run. Too much of a good thing, perhaps.

But, I will give a very brief summary of my views on the list of things. Brief, because I need to get some sleep. Busy month ahead.

Technology

We have a pretty good shot at being the first to Rifling, so we should not let that go to waste. Well, I guess that's more relevant for a different section. If we acquire Engineering, Trebuchets should prove sufficient for our needs. With Redcoats (bonus vs. other Gunpowder units) and Cavalry (very good units), we'll have a major firepower advantage.

I would advocate, after Rifling, Astronomy, Chemistry and Steel. We may have to trade for Optics if we have not already. We'll want some Galleons to transport our troops, and getting to Cannons will be helpful, but hopefully the war will be over before we have to start building them.

In short: Focus on techs to help us militarily because we are planning for war. Peaceful techs can follow.

Great People

If we can get a Caravel built soon, sending the Great Merchant to the Americas would be ideal. I think it's too risky to send him out anywhere in the Old World, though. If he gets caught in the open when a War Declaration comes, it's over.

The Great Scientist would be best used for an Academy, I think. Half-bulbs aren't so hot at this point. I think we have one Academy somewhere. We'll want one in, oh, Ravus-York, if we don't have one already.

Foreign Policy

Ragnar has made it pretty clear that he has our heads in his crosshairs. His flagrant violation of our sphere of interest, while not an outright declaration of war, indicates his hostile intents. Our next term must see the expansion of the army, as well as vessels to transport them. Landing our forces on the Norse homeland is the best course of action. We will likely destroy the bulk of their army there.

Ireland is a Red Herring. While we're busy shuttling troops over there, Ragnar and his allies will be tearing through our eastern front. A swift, decisive strike will decide the war at the outset, and we can liberate Ireland at our leisure afterwards. We would certainly do the Irish no good if we allowed ourselves to be conquered. Several Redcoats will have to be stationed on the Home Island and in Iberia, of course. We can't continue to work with these outdated troops.

Carthage: Hannibal has proven to be a good trading partner during my term. We received many technologies from him. Attacking him, especially with a greater threat hovering over us, would be foolish. We have few friends, so I suggest that we do our best to cultivate relations with the Carthegans.

Domestic

Not only are some of our cities unhealthy, several have grown too large and are unhappy. A bit more attention must be paid to the well-being of our citizens. Unhealthiness, while unpleasant, is generally not a major concern. Making sure that all of our citizens are happy is more important. Of course, one option is to begin a large construction project and work many of the citizens to death... that clears up congestion very well.

Remaining in Organize Religion and Christianity may be best, after all, since we still need to build a great deal of infrastructure. Our cities are becoming specialized. Birmingham and Antium are our dedicated training centers. Many other cities are bringing in commerce, and they need buildings to maximize yields (Markets, etc. for Gold, Libraries etc. for Beakers).

While on this topic, I've hit a conundrum: Where to build Oxford University and Wall Street. Ravus-York is certainly the best site for Wall Street because of the pure gold income from the Shrine. Settling future Great Prophets, and even Merchants, there will provide a great bounty. On the other hand, Ravus-York is also one of our greatest commerce cities. I usually do not build these two national Wonders in the same place, but in this case, it may be the best option. Thoughts?

Edit:

Land here. We can bypass the river this way. Unless Ragnar has upgraded to Rifles himself, our Redcoats will shred whatever he has (bonus vs. Gunpowder and Mounted). We will have to have sufficient siege to drop their defenses and attack the garrison. Note: If we get Astronomy + Chemistry before the attack, Frigates can bombard city defenses, and siege units can attack the city. Double Note: When upgrading units like Macemen and Swordsmen (we'll want to), give them as many City Raider promotions as possible. City-Raiding Riflemen/Redcoats are downright terrifying.

This'll be fun. I don't suppose I can "lead the attack"/play the combat rounds, eh? :p Yeah, didn't think so!

I will give a brief info on my views and as I am Free of coalitions party leaders might convince me to vote for them sticking close to my views. (Naturally rather peacefull)

Techs; We do not want to specialise to strongly, nonetheless, gaining acces to America is a crucial part in getting trade partners and maybe trade ressources or techs we lack (make it selling old technology to have the gold to run a higher tech slide). Secondly As we did not get a religion with a lot of followers (= lot of money from the shrine) try and get a usefull cooperation. Possibly foccusing on food and/or happiness maximization.

great people; Looking into great people you want to "store" them for cooperations or golden ages, unless scientists which are "spare" boost science by settling

Foreign policies; Stay peacefull and do not intervene in any war until we are technologically high advanced. (Panzer would be nice) you might want to think of selling gunpowder to hostile nations so that their invasion force is comprised of gunpowder units against whom redcoats have a bonus.
A small "surgical strike" force should be at hand to take out (and destroy as we cannot hold) the capital city of any aggressor. Units are preferably fast (curassiers) and or on boats.

Internally; get Infrastructur in place, boast science and tech and by doing so go for groceries / marketboosting economy (converting into science) and solve the health-unhapiness problem at the same time.

Religion wise go for free religion to boost science, make happy people and be left in peace.

Vassals shall be gifted techs in order to incite them to reserch stuff we don't have yet, which we can then trade or beg from them.

Furthermore concentrade spy points on one of the hostile nations and create some incidents (triggering war with another nation if possible) or directly harm their military cities (bad water will reduce population and hence productivity).

I am awaiting the parties plans and will vote accordingly.

Kindest regards
Fellow

I will post my ideas later tonight.

@WB error: It probably is because when LH gifted us the city of Rome, there was a palace in the city, thus making it the capital (new palace trumps old palace in wb). However if you look at London, their is still a palace in London. I say we keep both palaces for the city maintenance bonus.

In privite whosit and I have agreed to keep Aegis II alive. (lets hope we find a candidate BEFORE the election ends this time )

I vote for Imperial and PCE

PM Whosit or me if you want to participate in the coalition that brought us victory over Rome, 3 golden ages and turned our tech slider from loosing gold a 40% to gaining at 80%

I'm not entirely sure what's happening with the mechanics. It looks like London is getting the Capital City maintenance, but Rome is listed as the Capital. I'm not sure that we're getting the benefit of two palaces.

In privite whosit and I have agreed to keep Aegis II alive.

Yes. Aegis is still in the running. We remain dedicated to the betterment of England. Any who wish to join us are welcome.

PCE's plan (As usual it may have some extremist points that I am willing to negotiate)
1. we have a mercentile economy, close all borders (joke)

Now using Ravus' options
Tech path: Industrialist
Great people: Academy in London (techs at 73.5spt), R-Y already has an academy. If London already has one, then Academy in Liverpool (Techs at 40.5spt) & Trade Mission to Lincoln (I would suggest settling in Rome to give it the 1 food point needed to prevent the city from starving, but whosit already destroyed a village to prevent that)
Foreign policy: Surgical Strike and Survival of the Fittest
We need to rid the culture of Carthage from Rome

I mostly agree with Whosits Domestic policy
Oxford University
Should be built in london. It generates 18 more science per turn.

(I would suggest settling in Rome to give it the 1 food point needed to prevent the city from starving, but whosit already destroyed a village to prevent that)

In my defense, I thought I reversed that order, but I guess I didn't. Whoops. Well, we can always replace one of the mines with a Windmill. :p Ahh, improvement juggling. Probably drives LH bonkers, though.

It's unlikely that we'll win the cultural fight with Carthage, since they have built up a lot more than we have. Honestly, it's probably all the WB shenanigans that have helped us get as much as we have now.

That why my plan suggests a war with Carthage before a big bad winter war with Russia/Viking

I would like to point out, again, that Carthage has been a good trading partner with us. Carefully consider the utility of such a war. How much are we losing if Rome doesn't have control of a couple of coastal tiles? How much do we lose if we attack the closest thing to a friend we have? How much do we lose if we send our army south, and Ragnar declares war on us during that time?

Think about what we have to gain and what we have to lose, and most importantly, think about what is the greatest threat to us right now. Wars rarely strengthen a civilization immediately, so back-to-back wars can be costly. Just think carefully about what is best.

Edit: Oh, and London has an Academy already. Ravus-York does not, I believe.
