I didn't upload it on a XML document, just because I don't know anything about this kind of stuff and merijn said it was fine like this. :mischief:

Thx, updated

Could someone write/update a better entry for Norse, Muscovy and the Ottomans?
More fitting to the RFCE civs and theme, not to their respective BtS counterparts (Vikings, Russia, Turkey)

Isn't the BTS Ottoman pedia already Ottoman instead of Turkey. IIRC, in BTS, they are the Ottomans. Only in vanilla RFC, they are changed to the Turks. (And IIRC, the pedia isn't even changed)

Looking at the text itself, it continually speaks of the Ottomans, not of the Turks.

Spirictum, here are the latest text files of the mod, with Portuguese as a 6th language tag everywhere
Would be great if you could start the translations even for version 1.1 (a couple weeks)
Maybe you could add a couple base texts?

Also, it would be nice to get rid of all the russian characters for the next release
Merijn, you can also help with doing that if you have some time for it..

I'll try to do it ASAP.
It seems there are codes for special characters (like á à é í ó ú), where may I learn which code is for which character?

And what do you mean by base texts? To susbstitute some texts or to add where there is none?

EDIT: If I find any mispelling in the original text (in english) may I correct? (i.e. Some kinds of foods can also by preserved by "smoking" them.)

What do you exaclty mean. Do I have to edit the gamefont or change all
Code:
<Portuguese>RUSSIAN CHARACTERS</Portuguese>
into
Code:
<Portuguese>.</Portuguese>
?

If it's the first, I don't know how to do that. I have enough time for the second.

http://www.opinionatedgeek.com/dotnet/tools/htmlencode/Encode.aspx

You can paste the whole text (including all special characters) and copy the outcome back.

That's just the ASCII code for the characters in the Latin-1 character set
Anyway, you can use them without the code too
None of the latest translations added to the mod used them

Nothing really, just wanted to say that it would be nice to have a couple portuguese texts for the next release.
Some kind of a very basic version of the translations, representing that it already started

Of course, if you find any mistakes, feel free to correct them :goodjob:

Not really sure what you mean here
I just meant a simple XML cleanup for RFCE 1.1

I've been doing using the link merijn provided. If I only type the characters will they appear correctly on the mod? If not I'll remain doing this.

I don't know how much time it'll take, for now I'm almost done with the resources and I have started the buildings, but I didn't touch any of the others yet.

I may change small texts quickly, and leave the big Pedia texts for later, would be better this way?

And what to do with this:
The word derives from the Latin taberna and the Greek ???????/taverna

Is there a way to put ταβέρνα in the file to appear correctly in the game?

Yes they will. At least every character in the Latin-1 set.
All portuguese special characters are Latin-1, that's why it has a huge advantage against using Russian, Greek or even Hungarian or Polish as the 6th language.
The last 2 are actually very close (Latin-2), but a few special hungarian and polish characters still don't appear in Latin-1.

There is no rush at all
It's enough for me that there will be at least some portuguese translations for RFCE 1.1

Perfect, but whatever works best for you

We should avoid them
Same way as for the city names for Russia, Bulgaria and Byzantium/Greece
We don't use cyrillic and greek characters there either

Also, it doesn't have to be a loan translation at all
Feel free to use "artistic freedom" anywhere ;)

I meant removing all characters in the Portuguese tags like you did in revision 997.

Another thing:
In my last game, it annoyed me that the button for the corporation screen has a suitcase on it, which looks too modern.
I also wanted to add a message (and if possible with sound) when a resources spawns by python.
The funny thing is, I noticed that both features exist in SoI, in my last SoI game. I searched for the corporation screen button, but I couldn't find anything about it. (neither the new button nor the code)
I did find the code that gives a message when a resource spawns. I tried to include the code, but with no result.
If you have time, can you take a look at these?

So I may start just writing down the text with all those special characters and they will appear correctly in the game. And those texts that I already changed using the codes will be normally viewed (with these special characters) as well right?

About that Portuguese tags clean up, do you mean those codes that I've been finding all through the <Portuguese><Portuguese> parts of the files? If this is the case I'm already running through all these tags, so I may at least delete them even when I find the specific text to be done later. I'm already through it, so it's ok.

EDIT: BTW, I didn't find some buildings (i.e. barracks, stable) in the RFCEBuildings file, are they in another file?

Both of them are good ideas
Not sure if it will make it to the next release, but I put them on my todo list

Yes, it will appear correctly both way (at least for Latin-1 chars)

Those codes were for the russian charactes, before the gamefont files were changed.
Now they are just random words, mostly consisted of special chars like áéöüóú
Naturally you will change all of them when you insert the portuguese translations

EDIT: BTW, I didn't find some buildings (i.e. barracks, stable) in the RFCEBuildings file, are they in another file?

Yes, those texts from BtS which weren't changed for RFCE are not present in the RFCE text files.
But if there is a fanmade portuguese version of Civ IV (which is kinda necessary for running any mod in that language), they are already translated
If not, you will have to translate some of the original files too, but IIRC we already talked about that in a PM
We can get back to it later, specifically which texts are necessary to be translated, but first you should concentrate on the RFCE translations IMO

I was translating the game concepts and I found out this:

In the Golden Age explanation, Versailles is used as an example of wonder that gives a free golden age, only in the english language. The rest uses the Taj Mahal. I put the Versailles in Portuguese (but didn't change the others, maybe some translators could give a look at these other translations as they seem a lot incomplete).

After this I found that in the same text the Mausoleum was the wonder to increase the Golden Age lenght in all languages. So my question is: Is the Dome of the Rock link like this: [LINK=BUILDING_THE_DOME_OF_THE_ROCK]? I'll change it in English and in Portuguese.

EDIT: what does BFC stand for?
- The Pope can never control any city other than Rome and the Pope's culture cannot extend beyond Rome's BFC

EDIT2: I'm editing the Crusades texts. There are the texts that pop when the crusaders are leaving. In english you use %s1_civ_adjective to get the civ adjective for the leader. In German you use %s1:2_civ_adjective. I guess this is related to the gender of the adjective. In Portuguese we have this issue about genders too, so how is it possible for me to specify gender in my adjectives?

Indeed, the concepts are not perfect, do the changes you see fit
On the other hand all the reference html files are up to date

The area a city can work on. IIRC it's the short term for Big Fat Cross.

The civ adjectives are defined in the CIV4GameText_RFCE_Civilizations.xml file
I'm not sure right now how to define every case, but you can test them out easily
XML files loaded on each start of Civ IV, so you might need a couple restarts, but it shouldn't take too much time

So can I substitute the files in my RFCE mod folder and check the progress? This wont mess with my HoF right?

Big Fat Cross! Nice name! I'll translate this literally

BTW, translating the Dynamic Names I found this:
Code:
<Tag>TXT_KEY_DN_POR13</Tag>
 <English>Spanish Kingdom of Portugal</English>
 <French>Union Ibérique</French>
 <German>Iberische Union</German>
 <Italian>Unione Iberica</Italian>
 <Spanish></Spanish>
 <Portuguese></Portuguese>

So The Iberian Union is not the name of Vassal Portugal (of Spain) anymore? Indeed it's a creation of modern historians, but I think we should change it to Council of Portugal or Royal and Supreme Council of Portugal as stated in wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_of_Portugal
Spanish Kingdom of Portugal seems artificial

I never realized that, but the Leaning tower uses the original names of the GPs. The Great Theologian and Great Scholar are called Great Prophet and Great Scientist. So I'll change in original english text too ok?
Code:
<English>[COLOR_BUILDING_TEXT]The Leaning Tower[COLOR_SELECTED_TEXT] has inspired a [COLOR_UNIT_TEXT]Great Prophet[COLOR_SELECTED_TEXT]![COLOR_REVERT]</English>

(...)

<English>[COLOR_BUILDING_TEXT]The Leaning Tower[COLOR_SELECTED_TEXT] has inspired a [COLOR_UNIT_TEXT]Great Scientist[COLOR_SELECTED_TEXT]![COLOR_REVERT]</English>

Dynamic civ names are in the process of being updated, I have a WIP version for that too
Most Spanish vassals will probably be changed to Viceroyalty of ...
I'm absolutely not against using Council of Portugal here, if you think that's more fitting

Yep, that's an oversight with the Leaning Tower great person names
Change that one too

Well, here it is:
View attachment Text (1).zip

I'll be away from the internet until tomorrow, so I'm uploading it now.

I think I've touched all files (if not at least most of them). The Pedia texts I left for later, so Game Concepts, Units, Buildings, Civ names, Dynamic names, UHVs, all of that I tried to change already.

After the release of 1.1 I'll resume the translation and I hope it'll be 100% done for the next release.
