Rick Perry

Kennedy was an intellectual and beat Nixon. Fact is that the smarter candidate usually wins.

I agree with your overall point entirely, but I must point out that Nixon was considerably more intelligent than Kennedy and, well, every other American President ever since. He had many flaws, but lack of intelligence was certainly not one. He had an extremely sharp and complex mind, quite a difference from the Bushes and Obamas of the present.

Is it really anti-intellectualism? The anti-Ivy League sentiment comes more from the Ivies being diploma factories for the rich and stupid (see Bush, George; Kerry, John; Gore, Al).

Bill Clinton has an Ivy pedigree and is literally a Rhodes Scholar, and he managed to win twice. Bush won twice even though the D's somehow found two even dumber people to run against him. Kennedy was an intellectual and beat Nixon. Fact is that the smarter candidate usually wins. Last exception was 1980 and Carter was an incumbent with a bad economy.

What Clinton, Bush, and Kennedy had in common was they were "cool", someone you'd want to join you for a beer. Their opponents were weenies (Daddy Bush, Gore, Kerry) or crotchety old men (Dole, J-Mac).

Gore and Kerry are no geniuses. But no way are they not smarter than Bush.

its so less polarizing to use the entire transcript :goodjob:

;)

Hey, whats good for the goose is good for the gander as well. :D

But I wouldnt object to either Kerry or Gore simply because they made a C in some particular class in college as I dont think it very descriptive of their capability to lead today.

Yeah, there is some truth to that. Bush pretended to be what Perry actually is.

What great irony it would be for the Bush folks. They have made this possible, in a way, and I don't think they like the prospect of Perry.

Completely agree. Perry has given us plenty of examples of questionable decision making in his current office. Grades as a 20 year old don't matter very much. It's not like he's running on his educational pedigree.

True. I wasn't being entirely serious about that. By all means, focus on the most recent material. But still, I feel like that's a sort of 'poison fact' that's going to follow him forever, especially in this economic climate. Like, 'why is Perry giving Bernanke crap about the Fed?' 'Well, he did nearly fail economics.' And so on.

Wierd. My throwaway comment has inspired more discussion then most of my substantive comments get.

You mean someone living in Texas for decades? Come off it, all of you. Yes, he was born in the Northeast, but he grew up and lived in Texas for the vast majority of his life.

If you guys don't like him, fine, but ridicule him for legitimate things, not this crap.

Their careers certainly do. Not to mention just talking they sound much smarter.

Yeah, Al Gore certainly sounded smarter the more he cursed in his latest rant....

I mean really Cutlass....we both know the vast amount of litterally stupid things Al Gore has said over the years. How can you say the guy sounds smater is beyond me.

You realize we're talking smarter than George W. Bush, right? That's not setting the bar very high, to say the least.

Yeah, but using Kerry and Gore as examples isnt a winning combo. If you think Lurch and Mad Al are smarter than Chimpy then good for you, but fwiw, I think Chimpy just a tad smarter than they, albeit not by probably much.

I don't give Gore the slightest respect, and I don't know anything about Kerry other than that he's a pro-choice Democrat (Who had a rather pathetic way of reconciling this with his Catholicism.)

George W. Bush might not have been the brightest bulb in the box, but he definitely wasn't dim.

Guys honestly, who cares. Stop letting people derail the thread because they can't actually defend Rick Perry's record.

As Dubya himself said, "we misunderestimate" him. Dubya achieved a level of stupidity which will likely be unmatched by any other president.
