[R&F] Rise and Fall Screenshot discussion

(Kilwa Kilwasani)

I think this might be it. The reconstruction is a little odd, and it's certainly not a perfect match, but it appears to be trying to have the little fort, the mosque and the palace. It's far from certain, but I don't know what else it could possibly be at this stage.

Like what? For me, the face is very intuitive. As soon as I saw the screenshot, I instantly knew that the city must have some of type of person/leader in it, and I instinctively thought "governor". Another icon would probably be less intuitive and would require the player to learn the new symbol.

I don't know, I just find it a little goofy.

Fair enough. I just think putting a little "G" or a little throne icon or a triangle or star next to the city to indicate a governor would be just as goofy and less intuitive, at least for me.

Oh certainly, and this way it at least conveys who the governor is, once you've played long enough to identify them.

I'm just not entirely sold on their personification of the governors at the minute. Part of the fantasy of Civ, to my mind at least, is in recognisable figures - there's a certain kick to be gotten out of recruiting, say, Hannibal Barca or Ching Shih as Great People that just isn't there with "Liyang the Surveyor" and "Amani the Diplomat", particularly when you have their cartoony visages grinning at you from the city banner .

The palace of Kilwa / Husuni Kubwa
...

I am now leaning very strongly towards it being Husuni Kubwa. With the new orientation we see in the Korea first look you can also make out the little pool between the larger and smaller enclosed portions of the main structure. Something that was missing in the angle we had earlier.

But it will probably be an own interpretation.

Did the First Look show any European civs' capitals to see if there's something up with the one in the tundra screenshot?

So, if we are all in accord that the blue dome thingy is definitely a Wonder, then all Wonders are accounted for, and the Amusement Pier thing would appear to be confirmed as the second new district. For loyalty?

"Feeling treasonous, comrade? Ride the Ferris Wheel."

Well then we have at least seen all 8 Wonders

Can someone list all 8 wonders?

There's no closeup on any European cities in the First Look. Korea is mainly interacting/fighting the Khmer and Japan.

Amundsen-Scott Polar Station
Archivo General de Indios
Chateau Frontenac (not technically confirmed)
Kilwa Kilwasani (or whatever)
Kotoku-in (the big brass Buddha)
Kremlin (or St Basil, if Firaxis has suddenly begun naming it correctly)
Statue of Liberty
Temple of Artemis

I feel that they put the ONE wonder we have no clue what it is in this video just to mess with us. Watch as Firaxis won't tell us what it is until Feb 8.

If this turns out to be the complete Wonder list for R&F, what are the "obvious" wonders we'd still be missing?

Taj Mahal
Machu Picchu
Notre Dame
The Louvre
???

A little disappointed with this line-up. It's diverse but some of my favorites are still missing.

Borobudur
Leaning Tower of Pisa
Himeji Castle
Statue of Zeus
Parthenon
Uffizi
CN Tower
Great Mosque of Djenne
Globe Theatre
Porcelain Tower
Red Fort
Sistine Chapel
Brandenburg Gate
Neuschwanstein
Prora
Great Firewall
Pentagon
Hubble Space Telescope
International Space Station

based off of Civ5 only. I wouldn't want all of them to return.

I still think that Amusement pier is a normal amusement-district with updated placement rules

So then they changed all the buildings from arenas and zoos and stadiums to amusement park rides despite eras? And what of the Street Carnival and the Aztec ball arena thing? And interior cities can't have amenities now? And now the Colisseum and Maracana Stadium have to be build on the coast?

That just seems unlikely.

This... is a bit of a mess. Civ VI's UI was already cluttered enough, and I'm not sure this new city banner is going to help one bit.

I'm with you, but I think it's a matter of taste. Ideally, I prefer a very minimal map UI for immersion/aesthetics, and then 'interactable spreadsheet' style report screens - i.e. where I can see all this info, sort it, click to change things, etc.

Given the popularity of Civ 5 EUI/Civ 6 CGUI which add a lot more info to the screen, but I find too cluttered (EUI especially so), I think I might be in the minority. And frankly, I guess "give me a bunch of spreadsheets to manage my empire with" might not be cutting-edge UI these days. Now I feel like one of those guys complaining about GUIs and how it was faster to type commands in the command prompt directly.
