RR17 - Rage against the machines

5/4 is fine. Don't worry about it. Maybe a straggler will join up at some point.

Not sure the VCs should have been disabled. Instead just set the VC rule for the human teams.

Right now, based on the rules, it is assumed we can go for diplo, culture, conquest or domination.

Yup, all VCs are on besides time and space. I wonder if I should had disabled diplo, though ...

BTW I think that disabling time ( well, this one is pretty neutral ) and space is beneficial for the game: atleast having the space VC off means that the AI does not lose time doing SS parts ;)

ah..I see...you are trying to keep the AI from doing stupid stuff

Well, Diplo is probably the fastest approach here. Like I said, set a single VC target.

Ah man, Shaka has terrible start techs

Let's get going! :D
I think 5 v 4 is the best way to set up the teams. Shouldn't matter much for an SG, should it?

Shaka's traits are interesting. I sense some :hammer: coming up...

Best think is the Ikhanda, which will even be more useful at this stage of the game and with corps.

Hey guys,

I think you can add me to the roster to make it 5/5. I can lurk and comment now, and within two weeks I'll have CIV again, so at the end of a roster I should be fine at this pace :-)

If you are in need of someone to take care of the map - just ask. My maps are pretty legendary ;).

Thanks, but in case you haven't noticed the OP already has the save ;)

Anyway @ vanatteveldt, you can consider yourself in. I'll take are to note your team that you can't play in these 2 weeks.

BTW I'll generate the teams now ... just wait some minutes

Ok, I've created a RNG non-repeating sequence in random.org ...
Spoiler :
OU6VJ.jpg

This means that the teams are ( picking by the order in the OP ):

Team A

r_rolo1
Thrar
LKendter
Sengir
vanatteveldt

Team B

nocho
astre
pigswill
lymond
strijder20

BTW I altered the rules to address lymond concerns. Now humans will need to win by conquest or Domination.

In a minute I'll generate the team threads. Will link them as soon as possible

The links for both teams are up:

Team A

Team B

From now on this thread will be considered as neutral ground for common use of both teams. Good luck to all of us :goodjob:

Oh, well, the game is over, the B team won fair and square ( well, I could say to some people "I told you so" about workshop usage :p ). SO , time for the next game ...

To be honest, I'm quite dry of ideas. I was toying for a while with the idea of making a E1000 game with Korea with only conquest and domination as options, but with pigs game, it might be a overload of Earth maps ;)

Anyone wants to suggest something ? :P

I had some fun recently with the advance start option.
It make your mind boil quite a bit.
this is not a major theme but will make a fine feature.

for global theme, why not try to play something with corporates?
I don't use them as mutch as i should and i'm afraid i'm not the only one in that case...

Yeah rolo, you could base a game around the corps that see seldom to no use at all - Civilized Jewelers, Standard Ethanol and Creative Constructions...

I actually suggested one of the current HOF Challenges involving a later era start culture victory that might involve alternatives like Corporations. However, I suggested a Ren start which turned out not to be too early to really involve corps much, although you could, for Culture VC as normal methods were still quite suitable. So it would need to be Industrial at least.

Another option, which avoids a later era start like Industrial and all its trappings, is to have a normal Ancient era start. However, place possible limitations like the following to encourage later era Culture win.

1) Must not found any religions. It's fine to adopt and spread religions that spread to you, but not be first to any religion founding tech.

2) We can build Temples and Monasteries as we choose for happy and research boost, but can never build a Cathedral or the like of any religion. Hermitage and later era culture boosters like Broadcast Towers are fine.

3) Cannot adopt Free Speech until you found at least one corporation.

4) Likewise, you can't produce a Great Artist until one corporation has been founded. (Free GA from Music is fine)

5) Additionally, we can never raise the culture slider until the second corporation has been founded.

6) We can spice things up by adding requirements like "must have at least 3 vassals at victory"

We can give something like this more thought, but basically Cathedrals/Free Speech/Great Artist Spam/Culture Slider are the big keys to early culture wins. Limiting or eliminating some of those factors should push a Culture Victory well into Corp range with much culture needed still for 3 L cities. We could go hardcore and eliminate/reduce some of those factors as we see fit or how we really want this game to run. Or just place all the parameters on a 2 or 3 corporation requirement.

A culture game would be a nice change of pace for me. I haven't played a culture game since, uh... well, the last culture game I played I suppose :D

Well, sorry for the absence for the last 3 days but had a lot to do and pretty much no time to weave a variant out :D

I like the corp based Cultural vic but I have to work on that ... as a lot of the players in here know, you can circumvent a lot of rules for cultural vics easily via espionage ( I'm pretty sure we could had done far better timewise in RR6 ... not enough for beating the typical cultural vic strat, but pretty capable to beat the game before broadcast towers and corps ), so the idea needs some work ;)

You could add that you have build all 3 of the culture producing Corps HQ (since none of them conflict), adds a fair amount of teching on top of the Culture norm, requires Mass Media so you have some incentive to possible build broadcast towers/spread corps, uses a GE, a GM, and a GA up, but still allows for Espionage/Religion usage.

If you don't mind using a Mod, i know K-Mod is reasonably popular and changes the Culture Victory somewhat (30% instead of 50% for Cathedrals, Collosseum gives 20%, most wonders produce less :culture:, Sistine's bonus :culture: isn't doubled anymore, Free Speech only being 50%, etc)

With the changes maybe the optimal route is the later era multipliers (haven't been changed iirc), or if we feel it hasn't then adding in some or all of lymond's rules on top could be interesting :)

I would prefer a non-mod cultural game with variant rules to force a tech-based culture path. Requiring the 3 corp HQ's is interesting as that creates a race for them with option to conquer if needed.
