You shouldn't feel anything even though you are running F@H, at least on my computer its very effective at giving itself lowest priority so when other tasks demand juice F@H puts itself on hold as necessary. If it was slowing me down I wouldn't run it, I've tried that before with a different distributed computing client and it was just too annoying.

Yeah, you shouldn't notice a real slowdown from it unless you're doing something CPU intensive. It has negligible memory use as well, < 25MB.

Heck, I've even left one instance of it running in the background while playing some games. :)

Will have WU's 3 & 4 completed by tonight, btw. I'm thinking that wait til next weekend and see how it's behaving, then put it on my server.

Are people able to get multiple computers under the same name? Because some of the progress here is leaving mine to shame.

PS: weasel op, could you update us?

Yes, I've got three servers, three quality workstations, and four old Celerons all returning results under my "IglooDude" name.

Thank goodness. For awhile there I thought you'd figured out a way to reduce the Plank constant ...

Oh, I've done that too, but it is still just simpler to put all machines under one name. :D

It's hard to figure out who is who since not everyone uses their CFC username.. my computer will take a well earned break for a week now though ;)

My machine won't be folding much. It is running on my laptop now which I use for pretty heavy duty development. My home machine is turned off whenever I am not play... errr using :mischief: it.

I will throw it on a couple of idle dev servers here. So we should be doing good.

Ummm, betazed, I think your dev servers are slacking off. :p

It's all compounding returns, my friend. The more we invest in this project, and the earlier we invest in this project, the faster we benefit from the discoveries.

The faster we get discoveries, the more research becomes available. Which means we benefit again, and again, and again.

I'm msappir - M for Michael, Sappir for Sappir. That's my name, don't wear it out.

 Igloo has 4387 points! The rest of us are just in for the ride

I just have machines at my job to throw at this, which is why I'm nudging Betazed - he does too I think, judging by our last CFC shared-processing team results:

While I don't want to trivialize IglooDude's amazing start so far, and it is a kick-butt start, I don't want anyone to not fold simply because they don't want to look lax in comparison.

Every single fold matters, and you never know if that one fold your aging box does every five or six days might just be the one that leads to a cure for breast cancer or <insert devastating disease here>.

So fold, fold, fold for humanity! :)

Igloo, what was that previous CFC thing researching?

Cancer cures, also.

LigandFit is a drug discovery software program.
The program appraises each of hundreds of millions of molecules to see if they are likely to interact with a target protein. LigandFit calculates and studies the many positions, or conformers, the molecule might adopt interacting with the protein. This process is called virtual screening of the molecules.

I think a lot of us tailed off (I know I did) when they had a few weeks of heavy downtime, during which the software would constantly throw alerts on your computer(s). Also, it wasn't supported running as a service, so it didn't work well on unattended machines particularly servers.

Besides, Dolby coming in, starting the team, and then exiting from it without explanation was a downer.

Seconded. If anyone wants to secretly sponsor one of my machines (i.e. I'll put their name on its results instead of mine) in order to not look lax, PM me. :)
