Download the console version. Execute the executable. It'll run through the setup, then ask you a bunch of configuration questions, the most important one being "yes, I want to have it run automatically at boot-up". The DOS box will run a bit; hit Control-C once it is either obviously started a work unit or is sitting at the same line for a little bit (see the screenshot up a few places, it'll look like that). Then reboot.

I already pretty much did that, even though I used -config to get to the options cause I thought that's the only way to do it... The service is there, it just won't start. Check out the screenie I posted a few posts up.

The way to avoid it starting right away and having to hit Control-C to close the command prompt window is to run the executable with the "-configonly" option (without the quotes). When you're done, you exit the command prompt window and reboot.

By the way, an easy way to be able to continually check the status while running as a service is to place a shortcut to UNITINFO.TXT or MYFOLDING.HTML on your desktop or quicklaunch bar. They are created after the service is up and running.

UNITINFO.TXT is a very basic text file with a progress percentage:

MYFOLDING.HTML is, as the name would imply, a webpage with a link to UNITINFO.HTML as well as links to your personal and team stats.

Nah. I actually broke into your system and copied your UNITINFO.TXT file, modifying the download time so you wouldn't be suspicious. Really!

My PC finished that one overnight and I have yet another one the same! Looking closer though, the last one was run 18 (clone 46, gen 3, this one is run 231 (clone 61, gen 2)

Hmmm, not sure then. I've looked through a few other Error 193 bits and this seems to be the most common advice:

Goto START>RUN and type, cmd (hit enter)
now type, sfc /scannow (hit enter)
SFC scan will start scanning ur system
u will need ur WinXP CD in order to fix the corrupted windows system files, if found by scan.

I don't know, I think computer systems aren't complex enough yet... I do think it's possible for AI to emerge spontaneously through the internet or something like it, but it may take quite a while longer.

A quick to Jonathan here, who's single machine chugging along has apparently finished nearly double the points of any other on the list so far (including Speedo VRWCAgent and I if you average our points across our machines).

I was poking around on Newegg in boredom, and put together a dream F@H system with 4 Opteron 280s. Those are dualcore, 2.4Ghz, 2MB L2 cache.

Now, to find the $9000 to buy it...

Now, to find the $9000 to buy it...

Heck, my dream foldserver would probably just be a single no-frills (NIC and VGA ports, I suppose) mobo, a gig or so of RAM, a dualcore Xeon, and a power supply. A solid-state USB drive to boot it up to a lightweight Linux OS, and away you go.

Now I'm going to have to price one, just out of curiosity...

It's dreaming, certainly not efficient

I did some more pricing, and for just under $600 you can put together this:

Athlon64x2 3800
Asus microATX mobo w/ onboard video
512MB (2x 256MB, for dual channel) DDR400 (could probably even get away with 256 running Linux)
Maxtor 40GB IDE HDD
Basic minitower microATX case and PSU

For $9000, I'd rather have 15 of those than the quad Opteron 280 beast
